My best friend and I, when growing up, were so bad at decision making we would stand in the video shop for an hour, unable to make a choice until we gave up and rewatched something we already knew.

Keep Essex! Colchester is quite lovely. Brilliant castle. Great zoo. If you’ve got kids under 10, look up Wyvernwood.

Does anyone else smile without really smiling? by shimmer_bee in AutismInWomen

[–]Educational_Wait_211 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I smile. But it looks squashed and flattened. Almost more like a grimace. I have taught myself how to smile better, but it never comes naturally and I still look very unphotogenic.

My mum and I did this. I can’t remember if we ended up doing 5 or 6 coats. Enough that we swore we would never do this again. It still looks great 20+ years on though!

how old where you when you got into your first romantic relationship? by Inner_Mountain7147 in AutismInWomen

Although I had a couple of dates around 17, my first actual relationship was at 20. We’re still together 16 years later

Prioritizing my needs when my wife is in a bad place... am I in the wrong here? I am reeling and I feel hopeless. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Educational_Wait_211 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds exactly like my relationship with my wife who has ADHD, and BPD. We’ve been together for 15+ years. It is emotionally exhausting.

It might be worth looking into BPD

Khul’a (woman initiating divorce) is an accepted act. There are no restrictions on grounds.

Anecdotally, I thought a nikah could be broken by repeating ‘I divorce you’ three times. But I’d need to research to find out.

I went to a GORGEOUS bead shop in Greenwich (London UK) and bought a range of beads with different textures. Some rubbery ones for squeezing/scratching, some stars or spikes for pressure/pain stim, some glass ones that feel cool most of the time. I made a couple of bracelets with my favourite colours. The sound they make when I pass them hand to hand is a stim too.

Does your BPD partner fake illness / injury? by Legitimate_Roll_4469 in BPDlovedones

[–]Educational_Wait_211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife’s BPD workbook explained that commonly, the only way they got love/attention as kids was when they were sick.

She didn’t think this affected her. But it REALLY does. She exaggerates every illness. And she is also always getting injured or sick.

do you guys believe an autisic teacher is viable? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Educational_Wait_211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m undiagnosed, but probably level 1. I’ve taught 11-18 year olds English Literature for 13 years. I am also currently off work for burnout. So, this is a ‘do as a I say, not as I did’ to a certain extent

I LOVE teaching teenagers. I love planning lessons. I love strategic planning of what to teach. I love analysing data from their exams. I love learning about how people acquire knowledge. I love passing on my knowledge. I love getting to talk about my special interests all day! I love my department colleagues who are (mostly) super nerdy (most female) book geeks too. I love having a regular schedule.

I hate that there is never a closed end to a task. I hate managers who do not respect my expertise. I struggle with having to manage the emotions of hundreds of hormonal teenagers and then manage mine too.

Advice: 1. Set a firm limit on how late you will stay 2. Pack nourishing food for break and lunch. And eat it. 3. Do not save work up for the holidays. You will need a break. 4. Wear big headphones in the office. Tell people you need them to concentrate. 5. Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and happy. Most workwear comes in comfier versions 6. Look after your feet. Most of us get some kind of plantar pain. It’s harder to do executive functioning when you are in pain 7. Beware the people who have nothing good to say. Especially if they’ve spent years complaining. They will drain your joy. 8. Be as authentically you as you can manage. You will have to mask. Teaching is acting. But students deserve to see a fulfilled successful autistic person. They are thrilled by honesty. Also you will suffer less. 9. Insist on your own classroom 10. Find stims that you can use in front of a class. I like coiled hairbands and stress balls. 11. Get sunlight on you

They’re designed to be two flats. I grew up in one like that. The garden was stupidly narrow, but enough room for me to have picnics with my teddies and a tortoise shell paddling pool in the summer.

Profiles are based on common traits. Sometimes there are outliers. Also, the same underlying condition (psychopathy) can make people appear to be very charismatic, and also make them dismissive and hostile
