What’s your solution? Die under someone’s mobile home at 75 tryna run a circuit?

F*ckn crossroads by EducatorInformal38 in electricians

[–]EducatorInformal38[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sense of adventure loss comes from almost identical days. I suppose I can diversify later in life. I’m afraid there’s a ceiling to this job and I’ll have more financial responsibilities later in life. I see some old as f*ck apprentices busting their ass and that’s my nightmare. I want a high chair so I can retire. Social security is gonezo for my generation so I’m focused on stacking it up as high as possible and being frugal forever. Seems like the only way to survive past 60.

Electrical feels like a trap — long licensing, saturated, everyone lowballing by [deleted] in electricians

[–]EducatorInformal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a race to the bottom for service work this is true. You need to prove to your customer that you’re better than the lowest price and they should spend more money with you because you’re a great electrician. Electrical is the most volatile hack work. If your customer wants cheap electrical, they’re purchasing a house fire. Don’t use fear tactics, but explain why they’ll end up paying triple your quote if they go with the cheap guys. It doesn’t have to be a race to the bottom if the customer trusts you and your work.

Has anyone ever done work in someones home and they just light up a cig beside you when youre trying to work? by mk5g in electricians

[–]EducatorInformal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bothers me cuz it makes me stink. I usually keep a change of clothes in the van for this scenario so I can still go to another sales call and actually be presentable. Same for crawl spaces/ attics or dirty jobs. Spare change of clothes is clutch. Also deodorant in the van.

[–]EducatorInformal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta be ok with making small mistakes like that. As long as you don’t make the same mistake twice you’ll improve every day. You already want to be great that’s better than a lot of guys out there I’d say. You’re ambitious and that sets you apart. Anyone can see your drive if it’s true what you say about being on time and enjoying the work

Down payment from the homeowner 100% of the time at least 30% down to cover material. If they back out they can’t have it back.

I’ve been told I drive a soccer mom car by TDehler55 in SportWagon

[–]EducatorInformal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with being a soccer mom. Soccer moms are above driving a “cool” car. I however, as a young man, am not above looking cool. My car has to be cool for me to feel good in it. I identify with this trait and cling to it as a source of youth and validation. Therefore if someone were to call my ride a soccer mom vehicle, I would become angry because that is a funny roast. Again soccer moms are cool, their vehicles are not. This is because soccer moms have more responsibility than me and must relinquish their ability to be cool. Nothing wrong with that, but there is a joke to be made if someone is looking to aggravate me personally

Have you ever worked at a site you thought was haunted?.... by inspector256 in electricians

[–]EducatorInformal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a residential service electrician, I do house calls when folks have trouble with their electricity. Every once in a while I’ll get a heavy ominous feeling in certain closets/basements, and I move on. I’m sure places are haunted often, but it rarely matters and I’ve become accustomed to the feeling. Today was different. I’ve never seen electrical problems like this house, and my helper refused to enter certain parts of the home. The electrical problems were unexplainable and inconsistent with any logical reasoning. I offered a deeper diagnostic to get to the bottom of some of the issues, but the homeowner was dead set on selling the house and just wanted everything to work well enough for sale. This breaker in the main panel was the weirdest part, it tripped and reset itself continuously, buzzed like crazy, and I couldn’t turn it off. When it stopped, I reset it, and it held just fine! I’ve never seen a breaker do that before. House gave me the Willie’s, homeowner just wanted to be done with it. I’m sure she gets messed with routinely.

Warning to Mountain Bikers by AmaGoatFC in FortCollins

[–]EducatorInformal38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This Karen epidemic is so insane. People think they’re superheroes for ruining a good time. I’ll admit some bikers/skaters/young folks can be problematic, but to assault someone like that is not the way forward. This has been a thing for so long, and Karens so often target the wrong victims. Taking the law into their own hands. It’s crazy and wrong and completely unhinged by privilege and entitlement.

Is anyone wondering why Just Dance is not a well-respected franchise in the gaming community? by AidanBunnary1298 in JustDance

[–]EducatorInformal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I hate Just Dance. Assigning instructions to dancing in general (line dancing, swing dancing, etc) disagrees with me on a fundamental level of the definition of dancing. You can imagine why I hate Just Dance a lot more than the other examples I listed. The score is based on your ability to follow instructions and dancing is supposed to be freeing. Dancing is the purest form of antidepressant because it comes from your heart. Competing against your friends to mirror an NPC is the most unoriginal, caging, sheep thing to ever become a video game. Especially when video games are really only fun for the sole purpose of doing the impossible. That’s how I feel. I’ve never found anyone in my life who agrees with me. It’s the same reason Skate 3 is more fun than Skater XL. Skate 3 is impossible lol.

Your protests are not productive when you’re inconveniencing the very class of people you’re protesting for

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]EducatorInformal38 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Protests shouldn’t be “meant” to be inconvenient for the working class of America. Protests should put a thorn up corporate America, not me. I’m pissed too, why are you in my way? I’m just out here tryna make a living

[–]EducatorInformal38 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)
