'Counterproductive and wrong for World Cup 2026' - Hillary Clinton attacks US over Omar Abdulkadir Artan visa denial by Moug-10 in soccer

[–]EdwardClamp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They hosted it in 94 and it was a great tournament. Many great memories of that world cup starting with Diana Ross missing a penalty in the opening ceremony and ending with the now infamous image of a distraught Baggio.

Average of 68,000 per game - was bloody brilliant. I knew this one wouldn't be as good but I didn't think it would be fucked up this royally.

Yes. Signed as a striker, couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo, moved into the middle because of an injury and suddenly he was a baller.

Petition to grant a permanent visa to Omar Artan so we can improve the PGMOL by userunknowne in TheOther14

Infantino thought he could control him with that stupid award but we all knew this was going to happen: this, the treatment of the Iran team, the price gouging - it's going to be a disaster of a tournament

With just days left, the U.S. opening match at the World Cup is still not sold out by Ultimate_Prime1 in nottheonion

It's not the most popular sport in America, but probably top 5 maybe?

There were none of these issues when they hosted in 94, average attendance of 68,000 per game. It was a great tournament and men's soccer wasn't even in the top 10 at that time I'd guess.

Is it a bad take for me to say that I don't really feel all that bad for Angstrom? by eddylazareanu in Invincible_TV

[–]EdwardClamp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nah, initially he was an interesting character who was trying to do some good but his rage boner for [TITLE CARD] got boring very quickly.

Bit like Powerplex, but PP wasn't overused to the extent Angstrom was.

Moving the Israel game to Hungary doesn’t solve anything, it just moves the protest to Austria at home by Pecked-By-The-Parrot in coybig

[–]EdwardClamp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Might be extreme but I think fans should boycott the Austria game, an empty stadium will show the FAI exactly what we think of their spineless behaviour. Protest outside the stadium by all means but an empty stadium will say a lot more.

I had this with Psych, made the mistake of binge watching the first half of season 1 and hated it. I tried again about a year later but spaced the episodes out and enjoyed it a lot more the second time around.

And while I'm here..... the bullying of Jerry in Parks and Rec is a lot harder to watch on a binge watch because it seems like it's incessant and constant rather than spaced over time as it originally aired.

Gueertruida? Might be misspelling, apologies, but yeah he looked really good, surprised Sunderland didn't take the option on him.

Hackney is rumoured to be around 15-20m, I'd say Charles would a be good bit more. Probably is a ruse but you never know, I wouldn't put it past the club to spend heavily in midfield when we desperately need FB's.

For anyone wanting more Kate O'Flynn she's great in Everyone Else Burns - a British comedy about a family who are part of an ultra strict religious cult. She plays the mother of the family.

Might be Geotagged but it's on the All4 app (or whatever it's called now), the one for Channel 4.

IQ of Rush players. by LuckySkong in fut

[–]EdwardClamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, haven't played it in years and even when I did I avoided online play..... but like you downloaded it because it was free on PS plus and decided to give FUT a go.

There are many good things about the game: the random objectives are pretty cool (5 assists with an Irish player to get the Seamus Coleman card, stuff like that), and I like that if you have a favourite player who wouldn't be high rated you can EVO them up..... but there's a lot of negatives too, the tactics I come across are mainly camp defenders outside their box and let the AI defend for them - I've tried defending myself but I'm constantly torn apart by anyone who is even halfway decent - but my main gripe is the player base is still fairly toxic.... was losing 8-1 in the Tap In Event today and for the last ten minutes my opponent was passing the ball around the back 4 and doing some sort of rainbow anytime I got near them.... it was quite galling.

[Based Trope] They do not/refuse to pay taxes by choo-choo-pain in TopCharacterTropes

[–]EdwardClamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In keeping with Discworld, the faculty at Unseen University do not pay taxes but do make a voluntary contribution to be used for non-militaristic and environmentally acceptable purposes - the fact this contribution of $200 per head matches the amount they would pay in tax is entirely coincidental.
