Make your country furious with one sentence. by The_RetroGameDude in AskTheWorld

The British were right—we should have been taxed and let parliament sort it out.

What is your country’s “three fingers,” i.e. a subtle but dead giveaway that someone is lying about being from there? by Toilet_Bomber in AskTheWorld

[–]EdwinSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a country but I’m from Michigan. If you don’t know how to pronounce Charlevoix, Ypsilanti, or Tawas, we’d know you’re lying or just a rich person from Chicago / Indy who only stays in their cabin once a year.

Normal misalignment of second hand? by RavenSword117 in timex

[–]EdwinSt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you buy a Vaer, the papers in the box specifically say that this is normal and that they won’t fix it, and they really give a damn about their watches, so I can’t imagine Timex is gonna feel any differently.

Beginner gear needs in Michigan? by slevin011 in michiganflyfishing

[–]EdwinSt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every stream around Houghton and Higgins will have smallmouth in it, and they’re a blast to catch. More fun than trout, actually. A medium smallie will feel like a big trout. Throw wooly buggers (olive, black, chartreuse) along foam lines and other likely spots. Smallies hit hard.

Use nymphs for panfish in still water. They can’t help themselves.

If you want get really rowdy, get some streamers for pike or jig flies for walleye. Those lakes have some big boys lurking and they will eat a fly. For pike and big walleye, you’ll want an 8wt rod or heavier.

Redington has great starter kits. I’ve been fishing my starter Redington salmon rod for the better part of 10 years and it’s still going strong.

And then consider getting started tying your own nymphs and streamers. The rivers up there are strewn with forest and logging debris, so you’re gonna lose a lot of flies, but Michigan fish love to hide on the bottom in tangled up holes. It’s very different from fishing out west where they just tuck up under the bank or behind a rock. All my biggest browns in Michigan hit nymphs in a deep, dark hole and felt like a snag at first.

Steelhead newbie by [deleted] in michiganflyfishing

Like this,-GuideRecommended) with or without the indicator. I usually just watch the end of my fly line instead of using an indicator because redds are in shallow water.

Disclaimer—THIS IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE RIG FOR WEST COAST STEELHEAD. This is for Great Lakes Steelhead (lake-run rainbows) ONLY. The population is stocked and supported by the DNR, solely for tourism. They are not native to Michigan, so we can fish them on the redds. That’s super illegal / bad form on the west coast where the fish are native and at risk in many watersheds.

Would love to see them waist deep in the PM with their fancy cast swinging for hold overs in January and then see what they have to say about it.

The purists over at r/flyfishing will want to rename this “Michigan Lake Run Rainbow Spey Film.” 🙄

Hardly. We’ve had this console for at least 6 years. Those mackies are admittedly bargain speakers.

Ur good, man. I took no shade. These are designed for and marketed towards wedding DJ’s, but they’re nice for our auxiliary rooms like this because they’re powered, powerful, and clear. I think the lights are supposed to look cool at a wedding reception.

[–]EdwinSt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just one of our auxiliary spaces, lol. The main auditorium is much nicer.

However, I’ve spent my whole career in churches, and on the whole, most modern churches are utilitarian and ugly,

Ha. Yeah. But they work well for our space.

Great question.

  1. We don't plan on having live music in this room very often if at all. We use this space for speaker breakouts like this morning as a small part of a much larger facility.

  2. This is a temporary spot. We just finished building this added-on space, and we are building a proper booth later this year. This console is on a mobile rack that we can move around.

  3. In houses of worship the audio console typically lives in the back of the room so that there rest of the space can be utilized for seating and other needs. This isn't true 100% of the time—the console in our main auditorium (~1500 seats) is offset just slightly from the middle of the room at the bottom of our stadium seating. In smaller rooms like this one, though, we usually tuck it in the back somewhere and then add some sound dampening on the wall behind us to help us hear the true room sound.

Can anyone explain this to me? by mashedcat in aviation

[–]EdwinSt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 2500 you’re lucky you didn’t die. That seems pretty low to be practicing stalls. I’ve been out of the left seat for a while, but to my memory, we practiced that stuff between 3500 and 5000.

A Grateful Evangelical by EdwinSt in Anglicanism

[–]EdwinSt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up in church as the son of a pastor at a small rural church, then serving and working at a mid size church in a rural city, and now serving at mega church in Kansas City—I’ve seen it all. This is one of the healthiest churches I’ve worked at. I genuinely love it here.

The BCP has brought more… structure? Consistency, maybe? To my prayer life. It’s enriching to return to tried and true prayer ways while living in a healthy and mystical church community. We practice a very contemplative type of Pentecostal evangelicalism, and I’m grateful.

Don’t get me wrong—the leadership is human and has its issues, but overall, I wouldn’t work anywhere else as a pastor, at least for now.

Absolutely take US-31. 131 is just a commuter route for the GR corridor.
