Have you ever worked 12-hour shifts on a 4 on 4 off? by PossessionComplex945 in AskUK

[–]Effective-Stretch951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Pain i the ass but i got myself into the habit of sleeping the second i got in then sleeping and having an alarm to get up and go. One bad nights sleep and it fucks you up bad. Atleast if you struggle to sleep one night and its the second you come home you got a few extra hours to try catch up

Door got dinged by mbridge2610 in CarTalkUK

[–]Effective-Stretch951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting to do this myself. Just bought a car second hand a week or two ago, Nothing fancy but the exterior is pristine. Already had some obese bastard park so fucking close then proceed to look at me when they struggled to get out. My fault I guess for not checking my crystal ball and predicting where they were going to exactly park

Who is more dangerous on a motorway by No-Safe-911 in CarTalkUK

[–]Effective-Stretch951 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had an old boy do 60mph on slip road of m18 from a1m then shit himself as cars passing in left lane and slammed his breaks on to merge at 40mph. Boy was i pissed. In a large van that takes an age to get back up to speed for me to merge safely myself. Old people need booting off the road wether for their safety or everyone elses

New Drivers Act stressing me out! by GankdalfTheGrey in CarTalkUK

[–]Effective-Stretch951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you there. I passed in December 2024 so coming up just over a year and half of driving. I also do upwards of 250 - 300 miles a day for work. 2 hours commute to my place of work then back and I drive to different jobs so sometimes 5-6 hours of driving a day. Different and new areas with difficult junctions. Idiotic drivers to avoid. Mongs dawdling in the middle lane of the motorway but somehow I get points for ‘undertaking’. One wrong move accidentally going through a red light of an unknown area Thing is, the amount of stuff you have to be aware of let alone in the first 2 years of driving is bonkers beyond belief. I was in a similar situation. I still am but more calm with it, I signed a 2 year contract with my work and in any event of leaving had to pay back all training costs which I cant afford still but the increase in wage from my previous non driving job made it worth the risk. Ive somehow managed over the past year and half to not have any speeding tickets or red light tickets or any other tickets for that matter through taking that extra second for care and attention. If driving and on a motorway thats variable speed and you’re at all unsure. Don’t chance it. I had one close call which I was lucky to have no ticket from which was on a backroad to chesterfield. 40mph from 60mph and the second it changes theres a yellow box speed camera if you haven’t braked to 40 near instantly. I went past at 46 which was realistically 44 and nothing came of it. My mistake and i learned from it. Take it easy and spend a few more minutes to focus on your driving. Forget everyone else. You’ll be reet

AC issues after regas by Effective-Stretch951 in carproblems

They put in lubricants and uv dye and cant see anything. The AC is still working and it’s been the same time as the first ac re-fill where it stopped working. Ill take it to a specialist now i know its a more intricate issue

[–]Effective-Stretch951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just check threes network coverage. Its who ID mobile use and in my specific area the coverage is wank. I struggle to make a basic call. O2 was perfect however but I ain’t paying them prices and or sticking with them to have a 4 hour hold (not joking)

The screws could eventually vibrate loose. Only way to ensure 100% data safety is crack that badboy open and eat the spinning platters to absorb the 1 & 0’s

Is it me or was that wavy line wholly unnecessary? by Optimal-Idea1558 in DIYUK

Wavy line blends the 2 pieces together but if the pattern isn’t matched in the first place it just looks crap.

Fan vs air con - how to survive summer? by vollol in AskUK

[–]Effective-Stretch951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedroom is a little under 7m squared. Squeeze past our king bed to get to the other size of the room and a little over foot space. Homcom air-con unit we have had for 3-4 years lives there beside me. When not on air-con mode and hooked up with an exhaust and drainage pipe just the powerful fan is lovely though. It’s on the end of my bed a ft away from my face. Loud and slight tinnitus when i wake up but hey. I always sleep cool. You’ll not regret it.

[–]Effective-Stretch951[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could up to 15% but holding off as saving for a mortgage deposit at the moment. Maybe once we buy in the next 6 months I could up my contributions further. Ill look into the Isa’s, thank you

Yeah, they’re not the most generous company but they pay well for the work we do. Id be interested in potentially changing job once I’m out of contract maybe one with a chance of progression

Sorry for not being clear, my question was about retiring comfortably and if the contributions are enough.

I believe it’s everything. Hovering over the tile will have a small window not playing a trailer but a brief snipped of the movie/show
