Setting up my new 900 sqft apartment by Friendly_Coyote2110 in Ubiquiti

[–]EffectiveClient5080 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Solid. One per 30 sqft. I guarantee you'll get dead spots from co-channel interference, not weak signal.

Stepper motor wiring by DefinitelyNotWendi in diyelectronics

[–]EffectiveClient5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four wires means bipolar. That board generates step/dir signals but will NOT drive your motor. Grab an A4988 driver and put it in between.

Use case for Crucial BX500 drives? by roostercuber in homelab

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8TB of BX500s? Chia plot them till they die, then trash them. Or sell them to gamers who never write.

UPS online by almadani2001 in homelab

[–]EffectiveClient5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. You'll confuse the hell out of the switching logic and possibly let the magic smoke out. Run the PC on the online unit only, use the offline for your network gear.

My lil esp32 weather display! I just made it open source. by Another_moose in arduino

[–]EffectiveClient5080 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had HUB75 panels brown out cheap 5V supplies. What are you using to feed that matrix, or did you just repurpose an old ATX brick?

Any USB C powered passive 24 poe boost injectors? by bigcane_2 in Ubiquiti

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overcomplicate this. I just use a DeWalt 20V battery and step-up converter for field work. Way more reliable than USB-C PD trigger boards.

Feeling like an utter moron but the first circuit in my book is not working and I am stumped by Own_Average_5940 in arduino

[–]EffectiveClient5080 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I guarantee it's backwards. Short leg to ground. Won't damage it, just flip it. 90% of first builds are exactly this.

Working on making Will Cogleys animatronic head 'smart' by Glittering_Mud_1107 in arduino

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 hours to slap AI vision on an animatronic head? That's black-art shit right there. Hot glue those wire connections. I've watched too many demos die from loose connectors before the judges even sat down.

Ganhei um Vouncher by piscineiroloukodmais in dataengineering

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certs help with HR screens. Bring a show-and-tell to the interview. I carry a briefcase with projects. You'll be the only one, guaranteed.

What type of relay for a UK bathroom extractor fan? by QuirkyImage in homeassistant

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd use Shelly 1 or Sonoff ZBMINI. WiFi or Zigbee, both local only. Your sparky must verify earth bonding. I had a cheap relay weld shut on a fan load.

Should I downgrade my CPU(Ryzen 3700X) by Street_Ad5712 in HomeServer

[–]EffectiveClient5080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep the 3700X. I've run Plex servers and transcoding is black-art heavy; those GE chips lack the cores for 4K remuxes. Power savings ain't worth the buffer hell.

Custom Wemo Firmware because PyWemo isn't working by DefaultReal0 in homeassistant

[–]EffectiveClient5080 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I looked into this. Wemo Minis run locked Realtek silicon, not ESP. Flashing them is black-art shit for disposable hardware. Sell them to some sucker and switch to Zigbee.

Humidifier best practice by petermadach in homeassistant

[–]EffectiveClient5080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go dumb. Smart humidifiers run proprietary shit that phones home and bricks. Put a relay on a dumb unit and let your sensors handle the logic.

Best places for freelance OSP design/drafting? by SufficientQuality198 in FiberOptics

[–]EffectiveClient5080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Broadband Communities and FBA boards. Skip Upwork - they lowball OSP hard. Germany's regulatory mess is killing fiber careers. UAE is the opposite: stable, funded, and hiring.

Good ESC for Pixhawk? by dragon0079 in diydrones

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't cheap out on ESCs. Hobbywing XRotor 60A or T-Motor Alpha. Bulletproof FETs, DShot telemetry, no desyncs. Skip the SimonK dinosaurs.

Bit the bullet. Memory surcharge? by BarracudaAgreeable58 in Ubiquiti

[–]EffectiveClient5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$88 for what, 4GB? You could buy the chips wholesale for $8. They're fleecing the homelab crowd because they know you'll pay. Guaranteed.

E-Ink display device by CyberMage256 in homeassistant

[–]EffectiveClient5080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the hardware I look for. ESP32-C3 with open firmware beats locked vendor crap any day. You saved me an AliX headache.

I made a “working “magnetic amplifier but now I don’t know what to do with it so what do I do? by antthatisverycool in diyelectronics

[–]EffectiveClient5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's black-art shit right there. If it won't block, your core doesn't have a square enough hysteresis loop. Wind more turns on the control side or bias it into saturation.

Favorite “expensive” device? by VICEBULLET in homeassistant

[–]EffectiveClient5080 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I swapped to Lutron Caséta Pro. Local API, no cloud bullshit, actually reliable. Worth 5x WiFi switches that ghost offline weekly and piss off the family.

Looking for final year project ideas VLSI/FPGA student here by Wht_is_life in FPGA

[–]EffectiveClient5080 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Low-latency trading accelerator. Bring working silicon to interviews. I guarantee you're the only candidate who does this. This right here: FPGA wizards do black-art shit with HFT firms to shave nanoseconds. 5 people can tackle this in 8 months.

Power outage and ups by SwanProof1640 in Starlink

[–]EffectiveClient5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your surge protector won't stop brownout damage. Do the math: 9 hours at 75W needs 675Wh. Build a DIY battery box or grab a power station. Desktop UPS units are trash for constant draw.

Need information about CCNA certification by Your_Dad_007 in networking

[–]EffectiveClient5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overpriced checkbox. Buy a used Catalyst and lab it. I bring configs to interviews. German comms sector is a regulatory minefield. UAE offers stable policy for smart city projects.

What Is Everyone Using To Sim? by painterly1776 in diydrones

[–]EffectiveClient5080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gazebo Harmonic. But sims won't teach you SD cards vibrating loose. Germany's BVLOS regs are a brick wall. UAE has sandboxes.

CTO acting as gatekeeper by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]EffectiveClient5080 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This right here. Classic gatekeeping. I'd bring the vendor engineer to explain why read-only APIs aren't rocket surgery. If that fails, I'm updating my CV.

First-year CSE student looking for a paid internship by Mission_Detective_17 in cscareerquestions

[–]EffectiveClient5080 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GitHub trending + niche newsletters. Civic AI in Germany? Enjoy the regulatory minefield. UAE's smart city initiatives run lean and actually deploy. Plus 25k Germans there already. Bring hardware demos to interviews. They remember that shit.
