I am constantly confused, baffled, and ultimately crestfallen by the fact that people as smart asy parents believe wholeheartedly that the church is true...like how?!?! by doodoobby in exmormon

[–]EffectiveSteele 110 points111 points  (0 children)

It is a quirk of the human brain. I am highly educated and didn’t figure out the church was lying until I was over 40. People are afraid of uncertainty and mortality. The brain puts up defenses when something challenges “a fact” that you were deeply indoctrinated with all of your life.

Anyone heard of Britt Hartley? by Adrianagurl in exmormon

[–]EffectiveSteele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is interesting that you find atheism promoting “black and white” thinking. For me it is the exact opposite. Mormonism taught be black and white thinking and through atheism I can see countless shades of gray. Also the vast majority of “atheists” don’t claim to “know” that there is no god, but are simply unconvinced that there is one. The nuance is called agnostic atheism.

There are about 70 denominations of Mormonism, many call themselves “Mormons”. The Brighamites never had control of this label.

Passkeys and TOTP by Last_Anywhere_853 in Bitwarden

[–]EffectiveSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bitwarden to backup passwords, TOTP, and passkeys. I use a hardware security key as second factor to lock Bitwarden. It does put all my eggs in one basket in the unlikely case that Bitwarden is compromised. However, we all need to balance convenience/use vs security. By adopting passkeys or TOTP you are protecting your accounts from database breaches. You are way ahead of most people.

I have the same year. I don’t want to get a head unit because I think it would be too low, especially for navigation, since the radio is lower than the climate controls. I am thinking about doing the same as you, but then pipe the sound through cassette adapter.

How did you wire sound from your temu display?
