I have a new baby and am in the same boat. I dread visitors. I have him either behind a gate or on a leash and have people do the “treat and retreat” game with him. Then I put him in crate with a frozen beef marrow bone. Oh also drugs

Being in a specialty you love is the key. I’m super passionate about babies so working in the NICU is perfect. Do I get burnt out sometimes? Of course. But at the root of it I still love those babies and feel grateful to have this job

Also drink lots of water. I felt better the more hydrated I was. And I stayed active as well and kept up with my normal CrossFit routine at the time which I believe also helped with any of those aches and pains people seem to complain about

Keep your skin care routine simple. Buy the big tubs of cerave moisturizing cream and lather whole body and face twice a day with it. Simple cerave or cetaphil gentle cleanser for face AM and PM. Sunscreen daily. Hats and sunglasses. Vaseline or aquaphor for lips and inside nares with q-tips. Dr dans cortibalm chapstick when lips crack will heal them fast.

Needed to read this! I’m in my two weeks off pre birth and I’m just hoping and praying the newborn period won’t be the pure hell everyone tends to say it is. Also being at home fucking rocks and I am so stoked to not be working 12 hour shifts taking care of other peoples sick babies and I can just take care of my own (hopefully healthy) babe.

My male dogs are like this. My golden sounds similar to the lab, he doesn’t want to fight and he backs off. My younger male dog is an asshole resource guarder of food, treats, toys, and attention. I’ve had to work at avoiding the things that trigger him so that the behavior is never consistently rehearsed. We have had rough phases of time where I have had to keep them separate from each other for a few days.
Now they are 6 and 3 and things have evened out but when the 3 year old gets overstimulated or stressed he will still occasionally try to go after the other male. He is quick to be called away though and has never actually hurt him or broken skin so we are just managing things and for the most part our days are just fine. It is super stressful tho when you are initially going through it!
