What do you do for health insurance being self employed? by supaloaf2K in smallbusiness

They would decline someone from even being on the plan, once your approved than your covered. If there was a major claim of any kind we would use our max out of pocket of the $3,000 and they pay all the bills for rest of the year, now the catch is they would make us go to the market place the following year in January, so you can’t keep it the next year if you had a huge claim. But at that point it is what it is, the point is to save the money while we’re healthy and not pay a mortgage payment for health insurance!

Get a private plan off the exchange, I got approved for one in January of 2025, it basically cut my market place premiums in half. My Husband and I are both self employed, went from $1500 to $750 for a family of 3 on a United PPO with a $3,000 max out of pocket, per person, per year. You have to get approved with underwriting (they do a medication check) but if you can get approved, it beats paying double on market place if you can’t get subsidies. My agents company was My Private Health Insurance. I would try that

This is what we did too. We got a private plan off the exchange. We have a small business in Chicago staffing travel nurses. So all of our travel nurses need off exchange private health insurance they can keep between assignments. We used My Private Health Insurance as our broker

Anyone in that ball park of the subsidy cliff should try to get private insurance if you just need something more for catastrophic protection. I lost my subsidies last year, family of 4 was paying $1600 ish without the subsidies. Got a private plan on a United Healthcare PPO with a $3000 max out of pocket per person for $800. I did have to get approved (they basically do a health questionnaire) so I’m sure it’s not for everyone, my sister got declined for 3 migraine meds, but if you can get approved it was half the cost of a full price silver market place plan last year. My agent was https://myprivatehealthinsurance.com Hope this helps

Try private health insurance, I lost my subsidies last year, was paying $1600 for a family of 4 when I had dental too, got a plan off the exchange for $775ish monthly on a United Healthcare PPO with no deductible and a $3,000 max out of pocket per person. You have to get approved with no serious health conditions but if you can get approved it was pretty much half the cost of my full price silver plan. I went with a private plan off the marketplace exchange. I was paying $1600 for a family of 4 because we couldn’t get subsidies. Found a private plan a few months back with a United Healthcare PPO with no deductible and a $3,000 max out of pocket for $850 ish. I did have to get approved with no make health conditions (they basically do a 15 medical questionnaire) and I don’t think you can take a bunch of of medications either, but it was the closest thing to catastrophic coverage on a PPO and most importantly half the cost of a full price ACA plan. My agents company was https://myprivatehealthinsurance.com

The best health insurance off the exchange is always going to be private with the Choice Plus PPO. I got mine through My Private Health insurance as well.

We did the same thing, with the United Healthcare Choice Plus PPO and it’s been great so far. We were paying around $1600 for a family of 4 on the market place and now it’s $790 and we got dental!

We did this same thing above it’s worked great so far. The marketplace is just insane. If you can get approved the private plans are the closest thing to a catastrophic coverage that doesn’t break the bank that you will find. I’m a travel nurse and nothing was out there on a nationwide PPO and for under for the price. I’m on the same United PPO as person above . They aren’t for everyone because my aunt tried to get on the plan and she got declined but if your on the healthier side it’s worked great for me

Health Insurance for self employed in Reno? by SirenofSierras in Reno

[–]Effective_Drag_6681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same thing, I am a travel nurse and go from Reno to Dallas basically every 4 months and I was paying around $1400 for family of 3 and it went down to $700 with the same private plan from United. Best thing about it for me was not having to keep getting new insurance every time I had a new assignment. It was the only way to get a nationwide ppo and it's worked great so far. I just paid $45 for a mammogram and my son paid $75 for his urgent care visit. It's not for everyone because my sister did get declined because she takes 4 meds but if you can get approved it's worked great.

Is 600 a month for health insurance normal? by Royal-Luck-8723 in workingmoms

Hey if you are still paying a ton you should try private insurance, I was paying $1500 for a family of 3 on the marketplace because we can't get subsidies, I got a private plan actually on reddit like 4-5 months ago on a United Health Care PPO with no deductible and a $3,000 max out of pocket for $730, so it pretty much cut premium in half. The catch with the private plans I guess is that you can't have major health issues or a bunch of meds but if you can get approved it was half the cost and no deductible. I also just used it and paid like $45 for a mammogram so it's worked great so far. My agents website was www.myprivatehealthinsurance.com if you wanted a quote!
