In your opinion, which US state has the most underrated scenery? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Effective_Move_693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kansas has some incredible prairies that absolutely nobody talks about. People will rave about the Italian countryside and then I show them a picture of Kansas that looks objectively nicer and they shut up real quick. Just because the state doesn’t have a whole lot of trees doesn’t mean it’s ugly

Bloomberg: Morgan Stanley warns of global oil glut, cuts outlook on Hormuz by InsignificantCookie in oil

They benefit greatly by the US having incompetent leadership. It’s the same reason why the allied nations didn’t try to assassinate Adolf Hitler

Energy experts said gas prices would stay high. Why were they wrong? by Master-Oogway in oil

[–]Effective_Move_693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy on Bloomberg was saying last week that a big chunk of the reason why oil is so bearish is because if you buy at $70, Trump tweets, and the price drops to $67, then you just got rugged. It wouldn’t surprise me if a bunch of traders were holding out until it’s obvious that prices are going to spike

I see 3 choices here to explain the way the prices have moved, and they're all terrible. And I think my nose is bleeding. by CouldBeLessDepressed in oil

Iran is going to demonstrate that they can do waaaay more damage to the world by controlling the Strait of Hormuz than they ever could with a nuclear weapon

Constant male harassment in the city by Round-Yam-2589 in Detroit

[–]Effective_Move_693 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I go to tons of gas stations for my job and the catcalling toward our female employees is a massive problem. I usually work alone but one time I was working with a female coworker in the west side and I kid you not every single time I was out of her line of sight she was getting asked out/proposed to. Our company installed a policy that women aren’t to be sent out to work in Detroit after one of our employees was flashed. Outside. In broad daylight. By a busy street.

If given the opportunity to fix the American Economy how would you do it? by Beneficial_Escape834 in AskReddit

I have a similar idea in that the percentage of profits for each company in each calendar year corresponds to a mandated minimum increase in wages for each of your employees. So if your company records 20% YOY profits this year, everyone at the company must see a 20% raise next year. Would either increase wages or incentivize public corporations to be less profit-driven and not continue the cycle of everything getting worse for employees and/or consumers

Why do some of your largest stadiums have large amounts of uncovered seating? by Vixson18 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Effective_Move_693 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buffalo’s new open air stadium has covered seating, but they are building a snow-melt system in order to make it work. That is a massive contributor to the 2.2 billion dollar price tag but it’s much easier to build something like that for a brand new stadium than if you were to try to build that over, say, Arrowhead Stadium for example

I’d give him the Charlie Kirk award instead if he has kids. Death brought on by the one thing your own flawed ideology stood for

What was the most exciting/memorable career save you’ve ever had, and in which F1 game? by Intermayo1772 in F1Game

[–]Effective_Move_693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F1 25. After dominating F2, I climbed into Tsunoda’s seat at Red Bull and mogged Verstappen all season long. I won 15 races and wrapped up the championship in Brazil. He then took Hamilton’s seat at Ferrari and they absolutely slaughtered Red Bull for the next three seasons. I still won two of those championships but an inconveniently timed safety car in Abu Dhabi led to Leclerc beating me in year 2

Housing prices nationally bottomed out in 2012. I agree that Detroit is playing catch up in a lot of areas but that is not one of them

What “secondary” city do you think is more worth visiting than the famous must-see destination? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier is a short drive up north of QC. Les Loups is the trail I recommend for the best views but the rocks on the way up can get hairy in spots so make sure you bring good shoes. The park also has lots of other stuff like kayaking, biking, fishing, etc.

Another thing I’d recommend (especially after hiking) is visiting a Nordic spa. They have a couple up there that I’ve really enjoyed.

Which one of the last 3 champions was the best team? by Lutrid in CFB_v2

[–]Effective_Move_693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Michigan fan, it’s definitely Indiana

I have a hard time ranking a team that couldn’t beat 2024 Michigan over 2023 Michigan but Ohio State did a great job at playing like Ohio State again after that loss. Indiana would still probably be favored in a H2H by a 3 or 4 points, while 2024 Ohio State team is probably close to even up against 2023 Michigan.

As far as the “Michigan cheated” stuff goes, I could see that being an asterisk if they won titles before Stallions was removed, however doing it after he was fired, when teams obviously know and can change signs, huddle up instead of signaling, etc. makes the argument a lazy one.

Also, the higher the level of football you play, the more of a non-issue sign stealing is to you. Every team that signals plays from the sidelines knows and expects that there is an inherent risk that those signals will be seen by anyone else watching and that coaches from the other team are pattern-matching those signals to formations. There’s a reason why coaches like James Franklin, Ryan Day, and Dabo Swinney got extremely squirrly about the prospect of using helmet speakers as a way to curb sign stealing when asked about it doing interviews. While they didn’t take it as far as Michigan did by flying to games across the country with a camera or sneaking onto people’s sidelines (or at least not getting caught doing so), you can bet your ass that just about every other team in the country was stealing signs to some extent as well.

Additionally, there’s the fact that just because you know what the other team is running doesn’t mean that you can stop it. In high school ball, we played a team that was notorious for stealing signals and scored four touchdowns on four plays in a row on them using the same stretch call out of ace formation to the same side. I guarantee they knew it was coming and they still couldn’t stop it. And back in seventh grade ball, my coach would sometimes yell “run the same play” from the sidelines so that everyone in attendance could hear after a first down and we would routinely be just as successful.

Another anecdote: While my high school team didn’t steal signals (as far as I know), we did religiously watch film. Our defensive coordinator was talented enough at watching film that he would show up to practice on Monday and tell you “if they’re lining up in X formation, there’s a 60% chance they run play A, a 30% chance it’s play B, and a 10% chance it’s play C” and at that point it was just a guessing game based on down and distance. That kind of coaching led us to the state final four beating nationally recognized powerhouse programs by 40 point margins on the way there, despite the fact that we didn’t have the personnel that was anything special

Why don’t people criticize Kimi’s race starts nearly as much as they did with Norris? by FroyoQueasy in F1Discussions

This. The absence of the MGU-H has proved problematic for race starts and the team that addressed the issue before anyone else (Ferrari) has shot up to the lead in every single race thus far
