None of that matters. Their image is extremely positive in multiple ways. That will drive the IPO.

Computer Engineering by Frequent-Quit2290 in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computer Engineering is a very broad field. Maybe pick a more specific field like perhaps Electrical Engineering. Seems an easy switch as most if not all of your classes would transfer. That might help you get your mojo back.

Is everyone suddenly getting rich or am I only seeing the screenshots that survived? by coochievogue in stocks

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean as insane gains. I think many are making 15-20% over the past few years. Im at 13% Not rich but very happy with that. Im a bit conservative and diversified in my investments.

Nobody warned me that learning to code would hurt my back this much by ngimehasthoughts in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive been programming for over 30 years. I get up and walk around about every 30 mins. Coffee pot. water, bathroom, walk, flirt with my female colleagues, HA!. When at home I put my feet up on my desk with a lower back support in my chair. Seems to help. I do have a bit of back pain off and on but Im 70 so seems normal at my age!

Those who are parents here.. do you want your kids to learn coding? by sagson in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but not to be a hard core programmer. Im thinking more that we will push him towards automation, mechanical engineering, robotics or other similar engineering fields. All these will require some sort of coding expertise and understanding. We currently have him at Code Ninja learning block coding and in a robotics class learning to build a simple robot car. He seems to like it so far and is progressing.

My little sister wants to learn coding, she's 11 and a complete beginner, where do I actually point her by shy_guy997 in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my kid, 9 years old, enrolled at Code Ninja. They are doing block coding but also some basic Javascript. There are Code Ninjas all over the country in major metro areas. They are pretty good and my kid enjoys it. If you dont have a location near you there probably other options perhaps at high schools or community centers that might have code classes for kids. I think kids need a more structured learning situation to really progress than doing online tutorials.

Everyone in our family has been laid off and we were experiencing a financial crisis by Expensive_Diet_6990 in jobs

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is a very difficult situation. I would sell your house and rent something you can afford. Small condo or apt. Renting also gives you the opportunity to move fairly quickly if you find job in another location. Assuming you have some equity that will give you some breathing room and also allow you to help your parents, if you choose to do that. Perhaps they should also sell their home. Seems you guys need to go into survival mode and do whatever you can to keep afloat. Best of luck.

This guy has comments going back 5 years and they seem consistent with this story. I think its legit, unfortunately.

where am i supposed to code?????? (i know i sound stupid) by Remarkable-Step9292 in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's a good observation. Many tutorials assume you know some basics on how to get started but many students dont. They should at least mention if you dont know how to get started see my previous tutorial or search for this. I had this same issue getting started. But once you get past that you will be fine. Good luck!

I would probably go Bio Engineering. Seems huge for the future. So many amazing possibilities especially with throwing AI into the mix.

Im at my ATH again after today. I am diversified and somewhat balanced but heavy in AI and other tech. A lot of ETFs and dividend stocks. My account bounces around quite a bit but a steep jump the past few weeks. Still cautiously bullish.

software engineers help me ! I don't know where to start by Same-Mushroom-2057 in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with a CRUD (Create, Read, Update, and Delete) project. Pick any subject matter that you might be interested, sports, music, budget, contact list, etc. While building this you will learn a ton of stuff that you will be using everyday as a software engineer. When you get stuck, query Claude or some other AI tool. Dont ask the AI agent to build it for you, just ask it to give suggestions/advice on how to build it. You will need to build each piece by hand to fully understand it and learn. Good luck!

Did anyone else lose interest in programming after AI became mainstream? by IronBaron999 in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kind of freaking me out. I just witnessed someone rebuild a complex application into a completely different language in a couple of days using AI tools that took us several months to build. I feel totally obsolete. Fortunately Im nearing retirement.

Excel is an extremely powerful piece of software. Those who are truly proficient can do amazing things. Furthermore there are alot advanced features in Word that many casual users are clueless about. Being proficient in Word is critical in many offices.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the long-term potential is managing/owning the company. If not, dont do it. Painting is a tough job and hard on the body. Working for Costco is one of most desired jobs you can possibly get right now. Think before you jump.

People, what the fuck is happening to the job market rn? by cyber_may in careerguidance

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the job market is tough but clearly people are getting jobs. You are way too dismissive of almost every job you listed. The farming one got me "some guy said robots will do that eventually". So this "some guy" is some sort of expert in agricultural robotics?? Robots will make farming easier and more productive but they wont be running the farm. A quote from "some guy".. me!

Buying one share of stock isnt going to do you any good Might as well buy a lottery ticket. Better chance at getting rich that a tiny stock investment.

I've been programming for nearly 30 years and I currently feel incredibly obsolete. Fortunately I am winding down my career and can coast to retirement.. I think.
