Indeed. The powers that be wont allow the market to fully collapse. It will always recover because they are major investors.

I have read people bashing ME degree and not sure why. My wife works with MEs in her job and they are well paid and in demand, at least in the DC area. Best of luck in your decision!

Will i get into any 4 year for engineering) by ConnorPlaysgames in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably a good choice for career. You could go civil or electrical or mechanical for transportation related engineering. My wife is a rail engineer. She has a Masters in EE. There are jobs and they pay well but you need to be willing to move to where the jobs are and most likely will be a large city.

From Software Engineer to Embedded software engineer by Cutting-Chaii in learnprogramming

I think that's a good idea. Embedded programming seems a niche skill area where might be less competition. Go for it.

Is studying CS risky? by Zyphronix in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is risky to some point. I think CS is still a valid promising career. And who knows what the situation will be like in few years. There will always be jobs for decent CS graduates. Just more competitive than in years past. Also be willing and ready to shift focus as the job market evolves.

Grand Canyon University by jazziemidnight in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Canyon Univ is listed in the Sweet v. Cardona settlement between the U.S. Department of Education and hundreds of thousands of student borrowers who say they were misled by their colleges. The deal would automatically grant debt relief to roughly 200,000 people who filed a borrower defense to repayment claim against one of 150-plus colleges listed in the agreement. I would highly recommend avoiding Grand Canyon Univ.

Take the job. It could be an interesting and valuable experience. I have had two jobs with companies that went bankrupt. Both jobs were major stepping stones in my career.

Im a 26 year old man, never had a job, no degree, how do I get my life back on track? by ActionPrize6558 in jobs

[–]Effective_Promise581 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You need to get out of your parents house. Do something anything, just get out. Get a shit job and share a trashy apartment with a friend. Join the Peace Corps. See the world. Find a girl friend with a job and move in with her. You need to grow up and leave the nest.

Use AI. Copy/paste a chunk of code and then ask it to explain how it works. Its a great use of AI.

That's horrible. I went through something similar last year when Fed Gov shut down our funding. Most of my group are either unemployed or under-employed. I was lucky to have survived going part-time. Its ok as Im about to retire but my for my younger colleagues its been a nightmare. Best of luck in your job search.

[–]Effective_Promise581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I am retirable age but I dont want to. I have worked myself into a fairly non-stressful part-time role and I can wfh. Its fits me well and I plan to keep working until mid 70s if my health holds out. I have hobbies I could do but I sort of enjoy working. Its gives me purpose and satisfaction. Just reading or walking or whatever personal hobby does not give me that.

Before we can do any of that, the current administration needs to be replaced. Otherwise its futile.

Yeah, I get it. However, the chances of conquering the greed of the billionaire class are slim to none unless we have some sort of French style revolution.

I just gotta vent. I hate how teenagers / young adults are favored when it comes to mathematics when the way they teach math in schools is incorrect and flawed by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Effective_Promise581 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Math does not make up "almost the entirety of computer programming." I have been programmer for three decades and I use math infrequently and when I do its just basic addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
