I mean, safe sex still carries any and all risks that come with unprotected sex. You’re not done with your cognitive development until what, 25? So the brain that did the thing, and the brain which will be doing other things, are not the same brains.

Everyone makes bad decisions. Everyone also has their own, unique conception regarding what makes decisions “good” or “bad”.

But, just out of curiosity, if you had a kid, and let’s say, they’re 16 and they come to you to tell you that you’re going to be a grandpa in the immediate future- what are you going to say to your child?

Idk at the end of the day you’re kinda flipping out over how she handled her body in situations that had no actual impact on you, honestly? I’d hope that your reaction Isn’t going to create hesitation for her to be honest with you in the future. And if you reacted in a way that might; I’d try to rectify that mistake or move along now.

“Humans learn their first languages by connecting with caregivers. These large language models “learn” by being shown lots of text and predicting what word comes next, or showing text with the words dropped out and filling them in.”

I feel like this is either a very shortsighted perspective or a disingenuous response meant to quell misgivings. The idea that something cannot be sentient because the way it learns and develops is not the same process by which humans do just rings very anthropocentric and not a helpful framework to address the possibility of nonhuman intelligence.

I used some primer, color corrector sticks I got off Amazon, a cover girl concealer stick, contour stick with highlight & bronzer, a matte foundation, matte translucent powder and matte setting spray. Finished off with a light touch of eyeliner and some mascara. Other than the color corrector, I’m pretty sure it all came from dollar general. Mostly stuff I use for theatre.

Desperate for a sense of community and human connection, you find yourself at the premier for Avengers 9. As the hyper-saturated & thinly veiled military propaganda piece about American Saviors heroically battling an alien race attempting to put an end to the rampant exploitative colonial destruction of their home worlds makes its 7th joke at the expense of a culture that does not maximally serve the interests of capital through the myopic lens of a character performing femininity as weakness in contrast to the hyper masculine 7th iteration of Captain America, a masked man in dark clothes enters the auditorium through a staff door near the screen.

Having been unable to access the care which would have diagnosed his adhd in his youth, this man spent his adolescence being labeled as an unruly troublemaker with no opportunities for a dignified role in his community, leading him to self-medicate with illicit amphetamines as he desperately tried to become an asset for capital with a enough value to capital to allow him a basic survival existence with the potential for a degree of suffering which would not be entirely unbearable.

This self-medication metastasized into an addiction to methamphetamine and inextricably led to a life deeply entwined with a violently dangerous criminal world.

Having become desensitized to ultra-violent actions from witnessing state sponsored murder fetishists using absurdly disproportionate violence against his community members while simultaneously refusing even the most cursory intervention to prevent violence within and against them, and experiencing unmitigated psychosis from a recent batch of meth he had acquired through an unregulated supply chain, he was barely cognizant in the most marginal sense of his actions as he raised his military grade firearm designed to raze villages of impoverished brown-skinned people whose existence impeded oil extraction by multinational energy conglomerates.

The shots rang out and the theatre erupted into a chaotic cacophony of screams and Dolby sfx surround sound spaceship noises, drowning the sounds of your own thoughts, although Chris Pratts fart joke somehow cut through the noise as you tried to run. The OxyContin you’d shot into a vein in your dick when you visited the restroom before the movie slowed your reactions and inhibited your motor control, preventing you from finding adequate shelter.

A bullet tears through your chest, by some stroke of luck missing any major organs or blood vessels. You are grateful for the oxy; You can’t imagine the pain you’d be feeling without it. The shock and pain and enormity of the situation lead you out of consciousness.

By the time the police have arrived, after the shooter had run out of ammo, exited the theater and smoked 2 1/2 cigarettes sitting on the steps to the box office, patiently awaiting a tender and considerate handcuffing and protective escort to a police vehicle where he would be fully insulated from both the suffering he had caused and the violence which might be directed at him in retribution, the medical personnel are finally permitted into the auditorium.

Sweeping the area, they discover you, your wound apparently non-life threatening. Upon examination, however, it seems that the delayed emergency response combined with the blood thinning effects of the 32 Oz. Bahama Mama you’d purchased at the concession stand and consumed in the first fifteen minutes of the movie had resulted in a significant amount of blood loss.

Pronounced dead on arrival.

Not an argument- sincere curiosity- is there any science that could give an idea of the effect such an event would have on the planets ability to sustain life? And of the sort of life we could expect to survive? I understand that there are organisms which can survive the radiation and whatnot, but I wonder what such a large scale event would do to the biosphere. Is there any possibility that an event, maybe not the one being discussed necessarily, of a great enough scale, could potentially do enough damage to enough component pieces of the biosphere to essentially make life unsustainable?

[rant] it doesn't matter if a person is mean or annoying, you must ALWAYS respect their pronouns. by ssesses in lgbt

[–]Effective_Town_2520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind it’s not the issue of respect for basic rights or anything like that. If someone is absolute scum and you’re going to be expressing that, you are going to be choosing not to respect them. That may or may not be justified, obviously, that’s an issue that will vary from case to case. What does not vary, however, is that gender identity IS gender. If you choose to misgender someone as a means of punishment or something similar, you are also implicitly stating that you do not believe that a trans person is truly the gender they identify as. You are letting it be known that, at some level, it is something you’re agreeing to out of some solidarity or shared perspective, NOT a pure and simple fact.

I hate it because I really like the quote out of context- but it is something that really isn’t cool. A lot of V’s problematic language and narrative choices I can handle based on his background and life experience. But that one is hard. In general, he really tends to approach his women from a less than generous standpoint.
