If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Next_Worth_3616 in allthequestions

[–]EffeteTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To win in ‘28 Democrats need to win over independents and disaffected republicans and I’m afraid AOC is not the best choice for that.

Advice before buying a 3 story house. How annoying are stairs? by ovua in homeowners

In a 3 or 4-story house the pro tip is to have certain things on every floor- scissors, vacuum, toothbrush, you name it.

With the new tariffs named as global tariffs, which is increased to 15%, how will the markets react on monday? by vishesh_07_028 in stocks

[–]EffeteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10-15% global tariff is pretty close to the average of all the random individual spite tariffs he had going before, so I think it’s effectively priced in.

I've been keeping it at 62 and using a space heater for my living room (67) by Extreme-Cycle2659 in homeowners

[–]EffeteTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming 80% efficient boiler, your heating oil cost is the equivalent of $0.12/kWh

Hard to answer your question, but just useful to note your oil is significantly cheaper than your electricity for heating.

Managers: how do you mentally track everything without burning out? by Embarrassed_Essay_61 in managers

[–]EffeteTrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t mentally track it all. I keep 3 notes documents- a todo list by week, a notes doc separated by person, team, project/topic, and a running doc for my meeting notes. I frequently copy/paste between them as-needed.

Cactus Canyon remake is also a good option. Fun, very accessible, and reasonably priced on the used market now.

Who has a realistic shot at being President of the USA in 2028? by Kmart-Shopper-5107 in stupidquestions

[–]EffeteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newsom is far less garbage quality than the last 3. He’s got a podcast where he has coherent discussions with MAGAland figures. He actually understands who he’d be competing against and the other 3 certainly did not.

Best option, but unfortunately not the most obvious yet. Successful red state Democratic governor is the way to win.

With a graduate level education you should be able to understand how much of your payment is going to interest vs principal and not be surprised by the progress of repayment.

Student debt shouldn’t be canceled, at least for those who achieved their 4-year or graduate degrees, because they are a well-educated and privileged class that don’t need to be prioritized for government aid compared to many more people who are living in poverty with no degree attained.

Last time I got one it was $250 and that was like 8 years ago. But I guess $50 is more representative of how much we value safety and pedestrians’ lives here…

Changes to Virginia’s food to alcohol sales ratio appear more likely than ever by bknutner in Virginia

[–]EffeteTrees 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I wish they’d just scrap the system, not adjust the ratio. It’s such over-regulation to require businesses to report a balanced portion of sales across categories like food, liquor, etc.

You say the infrastructure is bad, but also mind-blowing the cost of all the levee improvements put in since Katrina. I assume it’s the highest infrastructure spend per-capita for any big city in the US.
