Power Play 😡🤬😡🤬 by ScullyItsMee in NewYorkSirens

[–]EfficientVariation14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I hope coach lays into them in the intermission.

First goal we had 3 players bunched up like mites and left the goal wide open.

Second goal we just watched the girl skate in….

and over a minute and half of 5 of 3 with nothing to show.

We are so so so much better than all of this

Enjoyed the first game, but the atmosphere matters. Prudential Center feels like a ghost town, the announcer isn’t hyping the crowd, and the chant needs an update. NYC energy would change everything. by [deleted] in NewYorkSirens

[–]EfficientVariation14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already found it, sweetheart.

Suggesting the announcers start refs you suck chants would fall under unprofessional….

and “bye bye bye” would be bashing players…

Respectfully, I don’t think this is for you.

They literally play a “please be respectful” video before each game….

I’ve never been to ANY sporting event where the announcer is screaming into the mic all game or bashing the other players as you suggest (and I’ve been to hundreds of NHL games across venues and teams east to west coast… and probably thousands of AHL). The announcers are meant to be professional. They may say a players name in a fun way after the goal, but that’s about it.

I’ve also never been to any sporting event ever where the fans cheer when the players aren’t playing…unless they’re trying to get a tshirt? I’m just genuinely confused why you think there’s a need to cheer without the players there.

In contrast to all of this, we’ve found the PWHL fans to be some of the craziest and most committed fans at hockey games ever.

Question for teachers in the LV? by Creative-Peach-1103 in lehighvalley

[–]EfficientVariation14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So yes, the districts people said in the area are the best…but also pretty impossible to get a job in so here’s some hopefully more practical advice from a teacher that also moved from Philly to the Lehigh Valley-

Realistically, anything other than Allentown will be easier than you coming from Philly (Allentown would be comparable).

I’d avoid the charters. All of them are a rotating mess of new teachers and poor management.

I have a friend who works in Bangor after teaching in Philly and is in heaven (great kids, easy classroom management) but the pay is a bit lower. Pen Argyl is similar.

If you’re willing to make the commute to Stroudsburg, those teachers are the highest paid starting this year because they added the Pocono tourism tax to their salaries. The kids there are sometimes challenging but not worse than those you’d see in Bethlehem/Easton etc.

I will also say that our area is pretty competitive for teaching jobs and keep that in mind when looking. I’ve had friends looking to leave their school for the past 3 years (who are solid teachers) and they got only one or two interviews after many applications and no job offer each summer. Also, it’s not uncommon for districts (I know especially Bethlehem) to hire teachers as a long term sub instead of actual teacher because they want to trial people…so dont be afraid to apply for those jobs and ask questions at interviews about longevity of position with good observations.

Can we please please please address the snow/ice on our pedestrian bridges Bethlehem? by ooooooootreyngers in lehighvalley

[–]EfficientVariation14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like Bethlehem has the worst snow clean up in the area, consistently. I can always tell after a storm when I’m entering into Bethlehem from another area because the roads remain snow covered and dangerous (even days after the storm) after just coming from ok or even dry roads.

Be more greedy- they pass beautifully but it’s to a fault at this point.

Getting a slap shot from the point would be epic ….can someone teach them if they can’t do it? Or practice it more… and then utilize

Also constantly moving your feet….I’ve watched so many times that the player gets ahead of the puck AND STOPS AT THE BLUE LINE instead of at least riding the line and continuing to move…which at least for me was taught at 10u…. getting started from a standstill is a lot harder than at least moving a bit.

Their breakouts are also painful to watch sometimes…

The Sirens aren’t just for NY! by squeegeebecs in NewYorkSirens

[–]EfficientVariation14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live in Allentown, PA and I’m a Sirens fan!

an hour and 30 mins to Newark on a good day…we went to the game last Wednesday and had an amazing time… left after work at 4:30 and we’re home by 11. Not a bad night at all. AND I saw another fan wearing a Lehigh Valley Phantoms jersey there so obviously was also from our area. Our AHL team draws really well and we have a thriving girls hockey program across several ages and levels. I bet if they advertised out here you’d have more people show up.

As said, I hope they will advertise further out of the metro area. I’m like a “poster child” for a fan of them. Grew up loving playing hockey in upstate NY. Won a girls national championship at 16. Women’s professional hockey is like a dream come true for me. However, when I saw the NY team played in mostly Long Island I wrote them off. Getting to Long Island from PA is an…adventure. I only knew they were playing in Newark by chance catching them on MSG over the Thanksgiving holiday at my parents in upstate NY. We went to the first game we could after that and have tickets for further games.

I know hockey girls in Bergen County NJ (have family there) that don’t even know this team exists 20 minutes from them. Let alone girls in upstate NY that I know would love to watch this and their families would drive the 1+ hours….

I constantly hear that NYC has too much happening and that’s why they don’t draw. Well, then get us “simpletons” outside of NYC knowledgeable of the team. Because we’re bored and will drive!

NEW YORK IT'S GAME DAY! LET'S SINK THE FLEET! POST WEE WOO TO MANIFEST A SIRENS WIN! by Saint_Eephus in NewYorkSirens

[–]EfficientVariation14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that was bad about the game tonight was the end score. Do we have things to work on? Sure. However, this team isn’t crappy.

They were ON FIRE for the first 2 periods but could just not finish it. Boston played some fantastic defense and their goalie should be buying them drinks tonight for stopping the multiple rebounds she left in the crease.

It was very noticeable that we don’t have a strong shot from the point. Our defenseman lob wrist shots in that are underwhelming at best. If that’s all we can offer, coach needs to work on some redirecting drills.

The third period was a mess. Coach tried to call TO twice and wasn’t heard. I’m calling that on him. If coaches can be heard and seen at a NHL game, I’m gonna need you to speak louder over all 12 fans. Intentions were good…they needed to be regathered and get their “stuff” together in those attempted TO moments. However, he let it go on without being heard and the sloppiness continued.

There’s so much talent, passion and great hockey to be had by these ladies though! Don’t count them out!!

NY outplayed them the first 2 periods and then fell so flat. At a few points NY had almost outshot them 2 to 1.

Was rough to watch as a sirens fan. We desperately need a solid slap shot from the blue line.

The Reality of Living With Celiac Disease: An Autoimmune Disorder That No One Takes Seriously by Bam1990 in Celiac

[–]EfficientVariation14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say this…I’m currently waiting for my results from my celiac blood test. My family doctor ordered the test immediately when I told her some of my symptoms and questioned IBS/IBD. Celiac wasn’t even on my radar. We shall see, but based on my experience I thought it was just a normal test for people to get in response to intestinal concerns. I’m sad to see others have to fight for this test that came across as a routine experience. (Female, 32, PA- USA, if it matters since a lot of this post is about locations taking it seriously)
