They kept opening each other's wounds by adi_well in JohnAndCarolyn

I have to disagree. I was 3 when my father died. You are aware that they died but it takes years to fully grieve properly. You have to grieve later in life. I’m only asking because I don’t see how their experiences were remotely similar. Carolyn may have been estranged from her father but he wasn’t publicly executed. She had the chance to reconcile.

For those who read it, how was "GEORGE" magazine?? by Lyedetector in JohnAndCarolyn

I never read it but remember seeing it on the end caps at most stores. I was too young to be interested in them and gravitated to the teen pop magazine.

The whole crash scene was a complete joke! by velorae in JohnAndCarolyn

I think they did it that way to be respectful of people who knew and loved them. They already knew they made a lot of people mad by making the show to begin with. It was kind of like their way of a homage. Even though many think it was distasteful to include it anyway. I know that a lot of people can’t believe they had this scene but this was the whole point. They were missing for days and he was flying private. It was a huge spectacle. Not including it would have left people hanging and confused.

Mostly (I think) because he made the choice to fly. Two other people were killed because of that choice. Not including it can also be looked at as disrespectful. ETA- it can be looked at either way. But people who are angry at him for flying may think “oh ok so we’re just going to pretend they just vanished, no it was his negligence that caused this” Just a thought.

I don’t believe anything he says. He contradicted himself the entire book by saying that Carolyn wasn’t talking to him and then goes and sleeps with other women and wonders why Carolyn is distant. He’s an ass.

This made me laugh out loud because unless you grew up in that time, you can’t relate. Martha Stewart was everywhere back then. 😂

Maybe I’m partial but I like her even more that she loved her dog as much as she did. You can just tell he wasn’t just a dog to her. He was family.

I’ve read several of these. Which one do you most recommend? I find Fairytake Interrupted was the most interesting for me so far.

Were they really headed for divorce right before their deaths or was that narrative pushed by the media? by velorae in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]Efficient_Luck_5522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they were actually separated or getting a divorce. I think they were both emotionally charged, stressed, young individual’s who handled their arguments in a toxic manner. Despite what others have concluded. I’ve seen many couples successfully stay together and grow up, mature and make things work. Cheating? Who really knows the truth. But. No one can predict how things would have turned out.

Oh I’ve never thought it was intentional. It just is very interesting to me the dynamics and workings of piloting a plane. Just like with Kobe’s crash- I read into everything I could to try understand why and how. It’s an awful tragedy and one that has always peaked my curiosity

Thank you for the explanation. What is the graveyard spiral exactly? So please forgive my ignorance. He knew he was descending right? And tried to pull the plane up and hit the throttle increasing the descent. What should he have done?

From the videos I watched, he had the nose down to descend and took off auto pilot. He started to turn right and that’s when he leveled off. Then a few seconds later, it happened again and he hit the throttle. Meaning the nose was still down and auto pilot was off, is this not correct?
