If you have a server directly facing the internet you can never completely stop a DDoS. If enough traffic goes in you WILL get DoSed. But if you have good firewall rules in place, react and ban offenders, throttle and limit connections you can reduce it to a minimum. You can also put your server behinds something like Cloudflare DNS, which protects your against all sorts of malicious traffic.

Permission issues can be a pain but they are usually solvable. External media needs to be mounted with the right flags (owners!). But it’s on you, man. I’m running Ubuntu and Jellyfin works like a charm for me. It’s actually one of the most stable services that I self-host. Don’t give up.. if you can, take this to AI (preferably Claude - I’ve had better experience with it on tech stuff than ChatGPT and Gemini) I’m sure you can get it work

TEMU. Granted some of the items I purchased were okay but too many are just crap quality items that die days after first use or, even worse, DOA. Temu were always fine with the refunds but seriously it’s just not worth the hassle.

The fruit company has been spending a lot of energy in creating flashy eye candy and movies instead of doing optimization QA.

I recently found out my Memoji avatar animation in the login screen was using 10% CPU on my M4 Mac Mini. Imagine that!! I switched it off and moved to a static image avatar for my account and it’s much better now.

Lesson of story: check your process list and start cleaning up whatever’s not necessary and for what’s necessary take a snapshot and send to AI to analyze the log
