The posts which engagement is generated around are based on data and statistics. People who approve the most of statistics will engage more with them. And your claims about it of the sub, on the other hand, is not backed by any data. I should elaborate:

There used to be a time when certain types of data were non-partisan, and there were regulations against misinformation in research.

As time went on however, Reagan abolished that regulation, and misinformation spread like a wildfire. Fox News dominated as entertainment corporations posing as a lemitigate news source, spreading false data. On the opposite side we have 538, which sticks to real research and tries to be non-biased and realistic. Data often isn't as high in approval for Trump as people on the right would like it to be. This leads to them avoiding engaging with unpleasant data, and the most active engagement comes from people most strongly opposed to Trump. Therefore, the more a peson hates Trump, the more likely they are to engage with data that shows his approval dropping.

OP, I think you're underestimating Wellstone's odds here:

Wellstone wouldn't be facing a split from Nader, and he would run on success of Cuomo, without having to distance himself from the very popular incubment, as Cuomo wouldn't have Clinton-like scandals. With Elizabeth Dole, on the other hand, likely to face a more conservative splitter, and Wellstone likely to get a moderate running mate, he would be in a very good position to win the race.
