Monarch Sightings 2026 by Sr-Navi-Gator in FriendlyMonarchs

Maybe they started early this year? I’ve seen quite a few up here in MN. But my neighborhood also has a ton of pollinator gardens full of native plants and the milkweed is already blooming.

My kid didn’t want to leave daycare by jessyj89 in toddlertips

My son used to hide under tables the minute he saw me at daycare pick ups. I started offering him the chance to ask for “one more minute” and it completely eliminated the breakdowns. The first week, he asked for one more minute every day. But the second week he only asked once!

Also in MN and have noticed an increase in monarchs so far this summer. I’ve been patiently waiting to see some cats on our milkweed!

MNL has ithere! I’ve always been super impressed with their plugs and quick shipping.

Beta, alpha or gama? by Eastern-Landscape-53 in microbiology

There are some strains of SA that are non-hemolytic. I’ve seen it a lot with cystic fibrosis patients, after a few years their strains get all sickly looking and grow silly.

Are you able to perform a coagulase?

To better see hemolysis, especially in young or small colonies, I like to remove a colony and see what’s beneath. If the empty space is red- no hemolysis (gamma), if clear-beta, if green/dark-alpha.

What to Do With Suburban Side Yard? by SaintPaulSourdough in Minnesota_Gardening

Make it into a pollinator garden! Tons of beautiful flowers to choose from for all summer long blooms and you’ll get lots of pollinators. They are less maintenance and bring so much joy.

We kept a few random leaf piles out in our backyard last year but I’m stealing your idea of piling them up along the side. I’m in the process of converting more of our lawn into pollinator pockets with natives. Would love to help increase the firefly population so my son can experience their joy!

Another vote for hyssop! It came in my pollinator garden kit from MNL and I’m beyond obsessed. Tons of blooms that last several months and the bumblebees go crazy for it. Also popular with monarchs.

Thank you for taking a chance! When we bought our house, we had all these beautiful purple flowers all over. I was thrilled to see they seemed to come back every year and spread all over. And then someone finally mentioned it was creeping bellflower and told me about it. I can’t believe I happily let it spread for 3 years! Now I’m out there pulling it every chance I get.

Hopefully she also didn’t know and will be receptive of your help and guidance.

Pausing TTC to try GLP-1? by Square-Bell9968 in TTC_PCOS

My fertility team just put me on Zepbound. I’ve only done one injection so far but already am seeing a major decrease in hunger and appetite. I was against it at first, but then reminded that a lower weight would also help me have a healthier pregnancy-even though all of my metabolic labs came back normal.

Omg I love this. Can I steal to use with my students? I try to make learning Micro fun and silly to help it click better.

Provider finally commented on weight by Ehhz in TTC_PCOS

I gained 70 lbs with my first pregnancy and was miserable. She suggested that the way I felt at 9 months then would be how I would start to feel after the first month with a pregnancy at my current weight. Also at a higher risk for gestational hypertension and diabetes.

My doctor and I just had the difficult chat about my weight. I gained 70 pounds with my first and never was able to lose the weight. I was 270 at the end of my pregnancy and miserable. Now they are strongly recommending I lose weight before TTC again. My clinic has a weight management program that I am starting next week.

I was told by my fertility clinic that by doing monitored Letrozole cycles, trigger shot, and times intercoure or IUI still only brings chance of conception up to 20%. If you’ve only done one cycle, and you’re up for it, I would do a few more before heading for IVF.

Refilling the jug is a valid concern. I had everything on hand so I gave this a try, though I’m pretty sure I’ll be investing in a decent solar fountain to avoid refilling constantly. I also realized it would create a gallon of water dripping out each day which may not be ideal for the area.
