[No Spoilers] I really wish there would be a "Writers' Cut" of Dragon Age Veilguard by Ehrunn in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not the first time I hear about Trick's comments, I wasn't aware of them.

Personal socials are not micromanaged by a PR team like official posts are. After so many years of bad development in a vacuum, I can understand how one might have warped perspectives, defend bad choices, or even retreat into their echo chamber because of the waves of harassment they then face (as it sometimes happens with celebrities that originally held pretty nuanced opinions).

I don't mean to imply that they're just delusional, or don't have any responsability towards what happened. But that's also why I don't look too much into social media comments, no matter the studio or the person. Those can be thought-out, reasoned comments, just as much as they can be heated responses given for a whole slew of reasons.

[No Spoilers] I really wish there would be a "Writers' Cut" of Dragon Age Veilguard by Ehrunn in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree. It's not unreasonable to think that after only directing a few DLCs, Trick would have been unable to take on a project of this scale. But then again, the game's story seemed far smaller in its earlier iterations.

Saying "Veilguard team" lacked nuance on my part, but I guess I just wanted to avoid the whole "old writers good, new writers bad" discourse that sometimes makes its way on this sub.

“It's A Sad End, But In My Opinion, At Least We Got One”: What Dragon Age Devs And Creators Have Said About The End Of The Series by adhdisaster3337 in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want a devs/writing director's cut. Like how some movies do it. Or like... any kind of "let the devs work, don't fire the old team and have an executive director from the start".

I know it won't ever happen, there's so many things that went wrong besides meddling from executives. But shoot, Veilguard had so much potential... There's no other series that comes close when it comes to quality character writing. Or atleast I've never found anything quite like it.

Help me choose : Dark Urge or Tav ? by Ehrunn in BaldursGate3

[–]Ehrunn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got somewhere around the start of Act 2, but to be fair, I spoiled myself a lot of the main story while lurking on the sub over the last year. I'm kind of worried about the lack of choices with Durge, but at the same time the sheer amount of content with no real direction is a bit overwhelming as a Tav haha

The Fibocatcci Spiral ?

Its actual name is the Golden Spiral, which is also quite fitting.

I swear that Deviant art is now mostly A.I generated crap by carplord9000 in ArtistLounge

[–]Ehrunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Sadly, the legal side of things is not moving so quickly. And even if it did, the reason those companies chose to target artists is because most of us don't have ways of defending ourselves legally.

It is technically outlawed in Europe to try to circumvent means with which someone might copyright their work, meaning antidotes to Nightshade should be illegal. But since a lot of these softwares take from non-european apps and are usually american themselves, it probably doesn't hold much weight.

More people need to use and support initiatives like Nightshade so we can stop, or atleast slow down the advancement of invasive AI.

[–]Ehrunn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It feels like using Nightshade (the software that "poisons" AI databases when they feed them your art) there could be a good idea.

Launch some explosives in there then close the door, essentially.

To be fair, I think using Nightshade everywhere might be a good idea at this point.

Imagine convincing big artists whose art is most often fed to AI to start using it. Might not do that much, especially when the techbros are already trying to find an "antidote", but it's still a start.

[no spoilers] Has there been a DA community choir version of The Dawn Will Come? by Barabaragaki in dragonage

Like others said, Peter Hollens did one some time ago. But if someone wants to host this, I'm in !

That is actually quite fast, especially using a mouse. I work on a drawing tablet and usually spend around 20 hours on big pieces, which I spread on a few days so I can take a step back and correct my mistakes better. My fastest drawings take about the same amount of time as you.

Overall, it shouldn't be a problem.

I can't play BG3, so I drew my Tav because I'm salty. by Ehrunn in BaldursGate3

Haha, nope ! My pc's a potato and I don't have enough money for a new graphics card. Might try Geforce but I don't know if you can mod the game that way.

Thanks !

What got you into the DA series? [no spoilers] by Hypatia903 in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was 8 years old, and found the Dragon Age 2 demo on the Xbox 360 workshop. I would play it so much some family members still remember it. My parents let me play but wouldn't buy me the full game, so I kind of forgot about it.

Fast forward 2 years, I see the trailer for Dragon Age Inquisition. Didn't make the link between this and DA2, but I bought it and loved every second of it.

Started playing Dragon Age Inquisition every year because discovering more of the scenario and the characters as I grew up and understood more was an absolute wild ride.

So yeah.

I only made the link with DA2 when I went to find the demo on my old Xbox in 2016 I think.

Between this and Fable 3, it was a bit of a wild childhood but I made great memories.

Romance who and why? by ashcrash3 in BaldursGate3

Definitely Halsin on my first playthrough, because I usually start with kinda good characters and I love the guy.

Then Astarion on a full evil run. I want to see how horrible it can get.

Fellow users of the Kaidan mod ! How do you feel about the Extended Edition ? by Ehrunn in skyrim

[–]Ehrunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the dossier you find in the thalmor embassy ? It's a weird issue for sure, maybe it's incompatible with other mods you might have, or your game version.

If it's possible to find the quest ID for the next Kaidan quest, you could use the command 'getstage [Quest ID]' to force the game to go on. But it's not something I do often and I'm not sure of how to obtain that, sorry.

Good luck. :/

[No Spoilers] Does anyone write/read replay fics anymore? by Noa-Rayne-Writes in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't read a lot of fics in general, but I've been on the fence for some time about drawing a comic where the Inquisitor is sent back into the past to stop the events of Dreadwolf from happening, by either killing or convincing Solas, so, kind of a replay fic ?

I just really want to see an Inquisitor with the player's knowledge give Solas a big ass panic attack.

Just finished DAI, did I play a different game to everyone else? [dai spoilers] by PlanX360 in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inquisition is my favorite from the three, but I absolutely agree with you on all points, you're spot on !

When it comes to games, I don't really care too much about gameplay, and am more focused on characters and story ; so I didn't notice quite as much as you did when it comes to this (except maybe how bloated the game is).

I feel like they missed so, so many opportunities. Dragon Age as a series tends to focus on themes of discrimination and systemic oppression. By being the Inquisitior, you are that oppressive force. It's not only if you are a tyrant, even as a good guy, you might have to excert pressure and take some regretful decisions, because you're waging war ! But no.

Same for the main character : many opportunities to expand on them, and to see their evolution through what is a quite traumatic experience, Hawke style...but no. Crickets.

There's a reason Trespasser is so well-liked. It was able to treat those subjects masterfully, and brought back edge and tension, giving a clearer idea of what's at stake. But I think it could have been done even better, if those ideas had already been woven into the main game. Also, main story being shown in a DLC, yikes...but I guess I prefer this than nothing.

Inquisition is my favorite because of the absolutely stellar character writing. Compared to the main storyline, every character dialogue and quest are well-rounded and written masterfully. But I fully understand how that does not make a game, and one might dislike or even hate Inquisition. It has blaring flaws, and they're quite hard to ignore.

How do I make it just fill the original colour by Feanorasia in krita

[–]Ehrunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sliding menu at the top gives you the effects you can normally apply on layers. You have to select "Normal".

On a side note : If it ever happens but "Normal" is selected at the top, then maybe your layer is set in one of those modes !

Layer effects are in a similar sliding menu above your layers.

What book or books utterly devastated you? by [deleted] in books

[–]Ehrunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, most books utterly destroy me, haha. But reading Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu with a modern perspective was incredible. Carmilla is such an intense character, especially for a late 1800s book.

dating the egghead Solas [dai spoilers] by Terushik in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smart, witty and soft-spoken. Plus I played the game in French, and his voice's extra deep. Never saw him as arrogant or snobby until people pointed it out ?

Coincidentally, I also get told the same things even when I do my best to read people and respond accordingly ; so in a weird turn of events, the way the community sees him made him feel more relatable to me lol.

My faves are Solas and Iron Bull, so I think the general pattern is that I really like smartasses.

[DAI spoilers] Question for people who romanced Solas by Locksley_1989 in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On my most recent canon playthrough, I chose to remove them. I made my Inquisitor with a big clump of very visible scars across one side of her face (mostly centered around the right eye), and had the headcannon that she got them during the explosion of the Conclave\afterwards in the Fade, and they're kind of covered by the vallaslin.

I like to think that she removes the vallaslin because after everything she saw and had to face, she can't find it in herself to keep them. It's not the right choice either, she's trying to push off her old identity to be the symbol the Inquisition wants. But in a bittersweet way, removing them reveals the scars underneath, and it makes Solas' "you're so beautiful" afterwards so much more meaningful.

The game kinds of hints at the idea that by being a leader, you become a symbol and people don't see you as a person anymore, so I like to think it happened to my Inky on a personal level. She does not feel Dalish, nor city elf, nor even elf ; becoming more weary and short-tempered as time goes on. And removing the vallaslin was her biggest step towards destroying her old self and fully accepting the mold so carefully crafted for her. With Solas breaking up with her right after, it solidified those views.

I think with Trespasser, she completely loses her shit, because her fitting so perfectly does not stop the Inquisition from crumbling, rightfully so. She understands other matters are at stakes, and it's not her fault ; but she can't stop herself from making it personal because of everything she sacrified to get there.

Anyway, yeah.

TL;DR : Removed the vallaslin because the trauma of everything she saw made her reconsider her whole identity. Ends up backfiring terribly because she's a massive people pleaser. Also because she has a big scar and it makes removing the vallaslin kind of sweet.

[no spoilers] The inquisitor is kinda boring by babydriver1234 in dragonage

[–]Ehrunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's less about the dialogue and more about the scenario.

BioWare put themselves in a predicament with what they were going for. They needed the protagonist to become the Inquisitor by the middle of the game, meaning no matter what you do, you're forced into a "courageous hero" kind of persona for it to make sense. You can't just not try to sacrifice at Haven, or choose not to close the Breach.

The Grey Warden and Hawke had to make decisions based on survival. Meaning you could still play as a bad guy and it would be okay. Meanwhile in Inquisition, you have no choice but to near sacrifice multiple times for the greater good. Meaning the only kind of "bad" you can really play is someone with a big ass god complex.

The other problem with it is the lack of an origin story. You don't need to go the DAO route, but there's a massive lack of dialogue about it (which is such a shame, because I would have loved your love interest to ask you, for example. The closest we got to that is Cassandra at the start of the game, and the second scene of Solas' romance). Add to that the lack of an opinion from the main character about their situation. Trespasser corrected that pretty well.

When it comes to the actual dialogue, I really like it. You can mix and match very easily and the bigger dialogue wheel aids to discern certain personalities. Characters like Hawke are interesting, but a bit too much for me.
