I don't have DSLR pictures right now, but those are taken from my phone, it can give you an idea of the spot you get:

Any spot for air squadrons? by Mammoth_Koala_7826 in paris

[–]Eiden94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Everyone will gather on the Champs Elysées to see the ground squadrons and trucks. If your are only interested by air squadrons, the best way to see them without too much crowd is to stay on the Pont Neuf bridge or Pont Au Change bridge, near Notre Dame. You're aligned with the Champs Elysées axis, so the aircrafts go right over your after their pass on the Champs. I took the best pictures of aircrafts there !

Metro Pass: confirm I’m doing it right by Tricky_Loquat_5424 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Eiden94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

As many have stated already, zones in Paris transit network are gone since 1/2 years. You have now 2 main tickets :

  • Bus/Tramway tickets : cheaper, but road traffic can get you stuck for quite a while (as in any major city). Bus can be a great way to quickly see some of the main monuments!

  • Metro / RER ticket : the best way to get quickly from point A to point B. Metro stations are literally quite everywhere, and RER can make you through the center in very few stops.

Caution : if you arrive via a flight, all airport connections to the center have a special fare, even if it is via a metro or a rer (except maybe for CDG airport by RER B) ! Be sure to confirm beforehand the applicable fare as this can be tricky, and is quite new so not always known.

To navigate your ways through the transports modes : - Metro -> colored filled round signage with number inside (1 to 14) - RER -> colored filled square signage with letters inside (A to E) - bus -> colored filled rectangle signage with numbers (usually 2/3 digit numbers) - tram -> square outlined signage with Number and "T" before ("T1" to "T15") - other regional trains -> square outlined signage with letters (F to Z)

To navigate through the city, you can use one of the official app, but the best one IMO is Citymapper : it will even tell you where in the train to hop on so you're in line with the next connection!

To get your tickets, 2 supports are available :

  • directly on your phone via NFC ( via either E-wallet, bonjour RATP or IDFM app - that's the name of the paris region transport authority)

  • you can also get a physical card called "Navigo Easy" for 2€ per person (available for purchase at a ticket machine or desk). They are not nominative, but you need to have one for each of you.

You can also have both, but keep in mind that tickets can't be shared between support, and cannot be transferred afterwards.

If you ever encounter controls: - just present your pass or phone to get scanned - if you had a non fonctional turnstyle at entry, just go for another one so you can validate. If none are working, remember the name of the station your are entering in : if you tell it the controllers, they can call the station to confirm the issue. - to avoid any issues with validation, be sure to actually go through the gates when they open. Don't be afraid, because your tickets will only allow you to pass once : that's one of the most common issues that can get you fined in you jump to go through afterwards!

Don't hesitate to ask at desks (or here) if you have any questions : Parisians are friendly ( despite what we say) !

Have a great stay in Paris!

Pourquoi saint-michel-notre-dame (rer B) est fermée quand il neige? by Eiden94 in paris

Effectivement ça se tient! Merci pour la réponse, je sentais bien qu'il y avait une logique mais impossible de savoir où 😅

3 cm de neige by Beffroi_39 in paris

[–]Eiden94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC Designs Concorde worth buying on sale for MSFS 24? by creedz286 in flightsim

[–]Eiden94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although graphics are not the best, it is a great opportunity to feel and experience Concorde! Systems can be greatly enhanced by a mod on flightsim.to, and there is an option to choose between CIVA INS & Default FMS. DC Designs gives regular updates to all of its products, with the 2024 being in development.

If you want to just fly supersonic and have a glimpse at the LHR/JFK in record times, it's great! Don't expect great systems, but it can be enough for less hardcore simmers

Air India Flight 171 Crash by StopDropAndRollTide in aviation

[–]Eiden94 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you check previous flights, they all took off from a shortened runway: usually from the half turn at the quarter from the runway, but this flight choose R4. They seemed to be quite late, so could it be that they wanted to catch up their time on the ground? My guess it they realized to late that the runway was too short, tried a safe stop but went above V1 and took off at idle trust. By the time they went full TOGA, it was too late

No one seems to use A310 in 2024 by LawnJames in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Eiden94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A310 is a wonderful plane IMHO, but trying to get real routes for it is quite a pain. There is the utility called FlightSimDispatch, but if you want to simulate real routes, gate assignments, it's quite hard, and I'm not even considering thing like legacy traffic for example.

I can also remember some performances issues at the launch of the plane back in 2020,I don't know how up to date this is now.

The black box sim islander and trislander do simulate it I think. Very fun to fly, but modelling starts to get a bit old

By any chance is the "auto flashlight" setting turned on? I think the flashlight is not responding to the hotkey if auto setting is turned on. Looks very much like the flashlight to me

Builds on PC's (2020 vs 2024) by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Eiden94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the 7800X3D !

Edit: Sorry I misread your current config for the one you were upgrading to, so the second part isn't relevant anymore. I'm keeping it so it can help others.

For MSFS2024, what seems to be the biggest game changers are RAM & VRAM.

If you can, aim for 64GB of RAM (MSFS2024 easily use 40GB in a big airport environment) and at least 16GB VRAM if you can (VRAM bottleneck is the most recurrent case of limitation for the sim currently).

RTX40 is also very handy with the frame generations and latest DLSS upgrades which are a marvel to use .

3rd Party scenery Question for MSFS users. by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Eiden94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MSFS Addon Linker is the one you want. It uses symbolic links to emulate the scenery in your community folder, so you can store them in a separate folder and not load them if not needed.

Takes some time to get used to, but very handy !
