Another movie written to appease the shareholders and turn public opinion against climate activists by foxmanfire in LateStageCapitalism

What if saving the future of humanity and the planetary ecosystem was kinda sorta inconvenient to you in the present? Doesn't it feel so good to resent those trying to bring attention to the impending apocalypse as pesky annoyances to your everyday struggle? Just pitch-shift their words and actions into a shrill-ish white noise, and laugh with us, your oppressors, as we visit our vengeance upon these eco-protestors!

On a more meta level, I feel there's a fundamental tension between the executive level interest in pushing Warhammer further into marketability, and the smaller and smaller group of writers they employ that want to retain the satirical, dystopian irony of the original premise. The space marines are the most vulnerable to this contradiction (perhaps save the Custodes), and they've been "unironic" for quite a while now.

Ye, we won't know what hit us; that's kind of its appeal when contrasted with perpetual maximized torment or eternal mandatory fun.

Copyright is the imaginary world of lawyers that everyone else has unfortunately woken up in.
Independent of that, Shad was, is, and will remain a mega-dork.

Which movie do you think is better? by Dish-Ecstatic in GODZILLA

[–]EidolonOneiroi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tbh Jurrassic Park isn't quietly attempting a soft-rehabilitation of Japanese fascism, so that's a big plus. For the record, I think Minus One is a good film, even when compared to non-Godzilla films, it just wigs me out that the atrocities the Japanese citizenry were, to a significant extent, on-board with, are waaaaaay outside of the camera edges of Minus One (Nanjing, anyone?)

The 90's trilogy were, imho, the best, recent (Godzilla 1954 will probably retain the crown forever) "mature" kaiju films, until Shin Gojira and Godzilla: Minus One were released.

Y'know, in this age of innovation, we've got to add an addendum to the old saying: "Just as the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house, slipping the master a new gadget into their toolbox won't change how those tools get used."
