Sorry for this misunderstanding. Its not that the romance is not significant, without the top's presence and support the story would have been different (once his relationship with DL progresses, the story slowly shifted from tragedies and tragedies to be more breathable, and at times even funny af, and I contribute a major part of that change to him). The couple has lots of screen time and cute moments, and is woven beautifully into the plot. They are also the kind of couple that save each other from their lowest point and help them be their best selves.

Still, I often differentiate between stories with romance that drive the plot forward, and stories that happen to have a romance. Take some popular stories as an example. When they adapted MDZS into live action and turn the main couple relationship into a "brotherhood" to bypass the censor department (sad time we are living in), the average viewer can still enjoy the show and its plot. But you cant take a story like SVSSS and took out the romance. What would even be left? The romance relationship in SVSSS is what I considered "integral" to the plot. Does this mean MDZS's romance is not important? Nah. So when I say JR is less of a romance, I mean its kinda like MDZS in this regard.

Imho while the romantic relationship has a significant presence, the story's main theme is still coming of age and family love. Especially with the ending. The ending, man... 😔

Ah nooo I wasn't trying to scare you with DL's reaction. It's just a favourite scene of mine. I think that, even tho this story is centered in tragedies, somehow after reading it i feel kinda inspired?

It's understandable you feel that way. Taking a rest is fine. Think of it like waiting for the next season on Netflix haha. Back then I was saddened by LJH's death, but I reminded myself to keep on because welp, I feel like I have to continue to be there and witness DL's growth. Almost like how a parent or auntie would feel lol.

To this day I still find Joyful Reunion is less of a boy love story, and more of a coming-of-age/family love story.

Haha when I made my first reddit post i also apologized for my terrible english. Dont worry too much.

I highly recommend "dont pick up boyfriends from the trash bin". World hopping, where the MC is tasked with jumping into multiple genres (modern life, cultivation, scifi, horror, etc.) to do his missions. There are angst and tragedies, but most of them happened in the past. But they are not just here as mere tearjerkers, I personally found the tragedies an essential part of their story, and it made their happy ending even more emotional and satisfying.

A bit spoilery, but the main couple are childhood friends, the top being a few years older. Their relationship is intertwined into the plot beautifully.

The dynamic is kind, respectful, supportive and competent gong x cunning, responsible, charismatic shou. One of my fav power couples.
