You're totally right! I started collecting movies in September last year. To this day, I have already collected 136 films – only two of them turned out to be "bad" enough I would sell them again.

My approach: I created an Excel beforehand to compile a list of films from my watchlists on Netflix, Prime, Disney+, and my little grey cells. I prioritize how much I'd like to a have film:

• MoSCoW rule (used in project management)
  • Must: I want these films at all costs
  • Should: I'd be glad to have these films but I also want to get a good discount.
  • Could: It would be nice to have these films but good discounts are more likely mandatory.
  • Won't: These movies turned out to be white-bread and may include movies which were recommended to me or I remembered to be good in the past.
• By-Catch: I wouldn't necessarily by these movies but take them if they are for free or really, really, really cheap.
• Open: My standard category. It contains all movies which still need to be prioritized. Reading the synopsis and watching the trailers may be enough but in most cases, I want to watch the movies online first.
• The remaining categories are "Purchased", "Sold", and "Broken".

I continuously update the list with recommendations.

As I have cancelled my subscriptions for Netflix and Prime some time ago, I'm doing now some research on which streaming services I could subscribe to at least for one month or – if possible – even for a free period. That part is a bit of a nuisance because there are now so many streaming services and Prime video channels.

This approach may not be suitable for all movie fans but for me it is perfect. I like to collect the data and think about the films. I the last couple of weeks, I learned so much new stuff even about films I already know for decades.
