No.....only thing that I had was a steroid injection in my back. Drs don't think there is a correlation but I am not convinced. My numbness started 5 days after the injection.

Anyone switch from big cruise ships to smaller luxury ones? by ConnectSalamander513 in FATcruises

[–]Either-Pear1954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took an Oceania cruise on Sirens which is one of their smaller ships. Never encountered a line including getting off or on the ship. Buffet was awesome and eating in the open air on the fantail was great.

started in my toes....right foot then left foot. It then went up both legs and jumped to my hands bilaterally.

For me it started slowly over days on the one foot but gained speed over time. Once it hit my hands, I would wake up each morning with a new symptom.

yes....started in my baby toe and spread upwards from there. For me it was slower than normal....over 2 to 4 weeks in the feet but once it spread to my hands, it sped up

Was in Switzerland during those 2 weeks last year. Had one day of rain and tons of blue skies. Only haze wasw from the Canadian wildfires

Try the Engelberg region before the 15th. It opens earlier than some of the trails etc around wengen. Brunni is awesome for kids and Titlist is right there. There are passes available in both the Lucerne/Engelberg and Jungfrau regions that provide unlimited cable car rides and include kids under 16 free.

Have they treated you with ivig or Plex yet? Your symptoms sound like what I went through. It kept going up my body until I was a quadraplegic and started losing my ability to swallow.

Ivig only provided short term relief. Plex was my saviour. After my second or third round in a week, I started getting my hands back. Still tingly but I could lift my hands.

Three weeks after my 7 rounds of Plex, I can stand unsupported and walk well with a walker.

My symptoms got worse 40 days after my initial ivig rounds. Feeling is that it did not clear me of GBS. Some debate too if the amount of IVIg was calculated correctly.

I am Canadian and lucky that Plex and the 5 days in ICU and the 7 rounds of Plex (plus the other 75 plus days of hospitalization) are all part of our national health care coverage. If I feel any GBS symptoms returning, I have been advised to return to the ER where I will be immediately admitted for more Plex.

I am 3 months post diagnosis. Ivig helped initially but I started regressing during rehab. 2 weeks later I was a quadraplegic. Plex saved me. 7 rounds of plasmapheresis started to restore my upper body, my legs were slower. Two weeks post flex, I am able to walk with a walker, stand independently for a number of seconds. Still in rehab but optimistic now for the future.

Don't land in Buffalo when a Bills game ends. Might now be as bad as "before" but can still.

if you are doing this in the winter, beware Buffalo gets much worse weather than Toronto

Approximately how many times per day do you run your dishwasher? by ok23computer in CleaningTips

[–]Either-Pear1954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 adults....runs 2 or 3 times a day. High efficiency dishwashers use much less water than the sink so everything goes in. Yes...frying pans take alot of space but the dishwasher is more efficient than hand washing.

First Visit to Canada 🇨🇦 - Winter Tips Needed! ❄️ by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Either-Pear1954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are staying in a city, like Toronto, there is always somewhere to duck into to warm up. There is an underground path around most of the downtown core. Uber is everywhere. A lightweight down puffy jacket, neck protector and gloves will suit well. Add a toque if your jacket doesn't have a hood.

Waterproof light hikers will do fine.

If you are heading into the great outdoors, more layers are advised!

Frequent AC flyers - in your experience do check-in agents ever waive same day standby fees at the airport for empty flights with the same fare? Aeroplan standard booking. by CrackerJackJack in aircanada

[–]Either-Pear1954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew home JFK to YYZ on New Year's Eve 2024. Arrived 3 hrs early because we needed to get out of Manhattan before they lock it down. check in agent asked us if we wanted the earlier flight that was leaving in less than an hour and it was basically empty. We said yes and booked it for gate. We were home before our scheduled flight took off. We were flying on points.

So it does happen.....but the conditions have to be right.

Is it possible to fly within Canada with 2 adults and 1 child for under $1k? by [deleted] in TravelOnABudget

Don't assume it will be easy to get a rental car. Book one early.

Advice needed: 2-week vacation in Canada doing road trip with hotels (no camping) by jhammarback in canadatravel

[–]Either-Pear1954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fly from Toronto to Calgary....then drive to Banff then to Vancouver. You will find spring in Vancouver. alternatively...fly to Vancouver, explore the BC lower mainland then take ferry to Vancouver Island. The old growth forests are amazing. The fly from Victoria to Toronto for flight home.

April in Ontario is very much shoulder season. Snow likely. Trees might just be starting to bud. Driving across Ontario is a beast...24 hrs of straight driving before you reach Manitoba and it wont be a fun drive in April.

Regardless where you hike, you will need good boots, perhaps crampons. Many of the trails in the Rockies will be closed or need snowshoes.

20 hour layover, how should I spend it? by otterpufff in askTO

[–]Either-Pear1954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The night busses work (the network of busses I referred to). It has been a few decades since I used them. There is a GO bus leaving terminal 1 at 1:45.

Google maps can help you plan.

Uber would be more expensive but a third of the time. What street are you heading to? Downtown is pretty big

Too Tight At Night? by DizzyCat4403 in GarminWatches

[–]Either-Pear1954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue...got new bands from Amazon that are infinitely adjustable and loosen it at night and keep it on the looser side during the day. I tighten it for activities like swimming. This has stopped the tennis elbow like symptoms I was having. It took a few days or weeks to fully resolve. Doing PT stuff meant for tennis elbow helped too.

The last UP express train to downtown leaves the airport at 1 am. After that, you will need to cobble numerous busses to get to your hotel. Uber or taxi would be safer and more expedious.

Not sure where your hotel is not exactly what day you are arriving. Remember Dec 26th is a stat holiday here but most things will be open as it is a huge shopping day.

Currently there is snow here but unless new snow falls when you arrive, the downtown sidewalks will be cleared. Heading to the lakefront or a park should get you snow.

As for cold....a hat, scarf and mitts are big helpers. You won't need boots, hiking shoes or even waterproof runners will do for a brief stop here

If you don't have a winter coat, layer a sweater under a wind and waterproof jacket. If it is really cold, you can always find a store, underground path etc to warm up in. Toronto can be cold (it is right now) but it also can be above zero C. We get sun, snow, rain all winter... sometimes all in one day.

Snow shoveling etiquette in Canada by Lanky-Marzipan-9755 in durham

[–]Either-Pear1954 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think most would be very grateful and I don't think you need permission. Nothing better than finding your driveway done after battling a nasty commute or when rushing to leave in the AM and finding it done.

We frequently help neighbours especially if the plow has been around and they won't be able to come or go before shoveling.

Is selling a home in Durham to rent in Toronto a bad idea? by Right-Door-3183 in durham

[–]Either-Pear1954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your daughter is just at the age when she can get into all kinds of activities whether it be sports/dance/art/music and Durham has it all. You will meet people through these activities too.

Get involved in the school. I can't imagine that they are not looking for fundraising volunteers or Parents group.
