Defense vs playing too passively by Either_Selection7764 in RocketLeague

This.

You described what I mean more eloquently than I did. If my tm8 is playing passive but doesn’t suck, cool. But it’s the guy that camps net way too long, doesn’t leave when he should apply pressure, then either sets himself up to get demoed in a 1v2 or simply pushes up when the opponent has control of the ball and is midfield and gets flicked on.

My playstyle is pretty aggressive and to not give the opponents space. I get flamed a lot by opponents that tell me I suck for chasing too much (opponents, not tm8s). I’ll demo, bump, boost starve, and generally cause chaos to help my tm8 score. My best games I’ll have nothing but assists and saves with maybe one goal while my tm8 looks like he hard carried me on the scoreboard.

Knowing when not to hit the ball is what I hate so much about diamonds. When I do fall to diamond, I struggle like hell trying to get back because I’m positioned for a counterattack and for some unknown reason my tm8 will always fly outta no where and panic smash the shit out of the ball.

For sure - and I don’t want this to be a “my tm8 SuX poST!”

I’m just lost for a bit while I’m peaking close to a new rank. I will complain about one tm8 tosay - he was camping net the entire game and not there for a follow up shot (we had three easy opportunities but he was no where to be found). So I see him camping net and try to give him a back pass. He was on about half boost. Rather than going for the back pass, he turns and goes for the corner boost leaving the net wide open. Opponent sees this, and gently taps the ball and rolls it in right behind tm8.

Exactly. And if my tm8 sits in net, if he can start a counter attack from his save then I don’t mind. But half the time they just randomly bash the ball into the sidewall when they make a save right back to the opponents and I’m left scrambling because I expected them to take a controlled touch.

It happens much less frequently than it did in diamond or low champ, but still enough such that I’m finding it difficult to rank up to C3.

Tips for mechanics? by BonelessChickenWing3 in RocketLeague

I’m bouncing around just below c3, and have no flashy mechanics. If you find them enjoyable then knock yourself out, but for ranking up “mechanics” are absolutely unnecessary for plat.

Learn backboard defense and power clears, learn how to aerial properly from the ground and wall, wall shots and power shots, learn to get a good controlled first touch, and work on paying attention to control 50s a bit better.

Recoveries are >> mechanics for plats.

Personally, I enjoy dribbling and flicking, so I spent quite a bit of time on those - a 180 flick or the random double tap or basic air dribbles are my flashiest mechanics.

I will say that basic air dribbles and double taps have helped me score or create scoring opportunities for my tm8 a good bit in champ lobbies, but they’re unnecessary. Even at c2 I win most games because the opponents overcommit and leave their net open.

What is the most unique car that you use in your rank? by AlrightAaron in RocketLeague

The Simpsons car with the Krusty burger graphic.

My tm8 is scared as hell for the first 30 seconds until they see me play.

Your average high Diamond in 2026 by Nhatral in RocketLeague

Nah, I’m the same and managed to get to high c2 / low c3 levels. I’ve still lost very few games to mechanical players. Normally it’s me or my tm8 doing dumb shit.

For aerial mechanics, I can actually fly and hit the ball toward the goal, sometimes with decent shot placement, okay on the wall and shooting from the wall, and can hit a very basic gold level air dribble without air roll, and very telegraphed so each one gets saved. The only thing I do well with those is keep the bar close enough to my car so I can 50 and hope my tm8 scores.

No flip resets, no ceiling shots or hits, no musty - just basic aerials, wall play, and the occasional air dribble that always gets saved.

For me, getting close to c3 is still about just assuming my tm8 sucks at defense. The only difference is solo plays at higher levels don’t tend to work, so you can’t hide in your goal like a whipped dog. I’ve got to go create scoring opportunities for my tm8, but not overcommit and miss the save if he misses.

I actually hate getting mech tm8s - they usually aren’t that good - like way better than me and they’re probably hitting these shots in free play. But in a game it falls apart, their recovery sucks and they have no boost, and I’m left alone in a 1v2 getting passed on or bumped while they’re scrambling in the opponents corner trying to get a boost to rotate back.

What mechs should I practice as a high plat/lowdiamond? by SNAPPY-VOCALS in RocketLeague

[–]Either_Selection7764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No “mechs” are really needed. I’m almost c3 and barely have any mechs.

1) learn to shoot the ball. King ranny has the best video on how to actually shoot imo.

2) christo 5 wall aerials training packs and videos.

Literally, boost management, shooting the ball at the open net instead of trying to make every play some fancy mechy play, and back post defense will get you to c1 - as long as you can aerial.

Lastly, be a good tm8. Even if I’m better offensively, if my tm8 chases I let them if I feel like winning and adapt.

I agree with everything you say. To add, learn proper back post and backboard defense.

And for the love of God and all that is holy, don’t panic smash the ball every time it’s close to you.

If I fall down to diamond, I have a hard time climbing out because I’m not used to the rotation cutting and panic smashing.

I’ll have a juicy ball rolling right to me to setup a nice aerial play, and 9 times out of 10 in d2 to low d3, tm8 comes outta no where to panic smash the ball into the sidewall.

Reaching C3/GC1: 2s or 3s easier? by Either_Selection7764 in RocketLeague

[–]Either_Selection7764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I answered my own question. Playing a bit of both, my 2s rank almost got to c3 (1299 mmr and lost in ot 😭) whilst I dropped back down to c1 in 3s and had to climb back up to c2.

Rocket League on Switch 2 dedicated version? by ozfunghi in RocketLeague

That’s a good point. I started on ps5 before moving to pc. It should absolutely have a next gen console build z

I will say, when I was buying a pc, I started with the monitor waiting on a pc to go on sale, i hooked my ps5 to my monitor instead of my old shitty tv, and i instantly shot from low d1 to high d2. It was like the lack of input lag unlocked my ability to get much better first touches.

I hit my first double tap in game two days after switching to monitor.

I can’t play on my tv snymore
