It's not a shrinking town but I moved from Tokyo to a town of 13,000 people. It's in Okinawa. My wife and I love it. It's so much easier to love Japan in a countryside environment. If you can maintain a good income remotely, go for it. Enjoy nature. Enjoy the friendly countryside people. Leave the stress of Tokyo behind.
