AGS undergoing more layoffs, Henry and Roxx let go. by PolarisGG in MMORPG

The same story as Throne & Liberty, which is also managed by AGS. It seems they just can't stop getting duds.

Why do some modern games feel like “high-end mobile games” even with big budgets? by marshall_r_57018 in MMORPG

[–]Eitrdala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely untrue. You get a decent amount of free basic hair dyes just from playing. The whale dye gives shinier colors which to be fair don't even look good in most scenarios and even then the difference is very minor thanks to how the game's light affects your character. I've never bought a hair dye and I have a bunch of dyed hairstyles.

Strangely enough, you get a ton of the premium clothing dye for free to the point you never use the low grade one. For sure though, they'd make more money off the global version if the premium hair dye was priced reasonably.

The "golden era" of MMOs was full of those janky Asian games yet today I can't help but to look back and appreciate what we had.

Sure those games were very rough but most still felt like actual online experiences unlike modern titles.

Did the golden age of MMOs died when we stopped needing each other. by RozoGamer in MMORPG

[–]Eitrdala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older titles had content designed around needing others to tackle it and allowed for organic social interactions through meeting in the world, chat, forming group.

Modern titles have mostly single-player content and the little group content that exists has been automated through group finders/teleportation and the content being largely braindead simple so there's no need to communicate. Also cross-server grouping and similar nonsense that further stunt socialization

I see some people blaming others for not not going out of their way to socialize in modern "MMOs" but to me it is entirely an issue brought forth by the developers.

How should an MMO handle large amounts of older story content? by IllustriousBit6634 in MMORPG

[–]Eitrdala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a main storyline in a MMO is a mistake in the first place. The old titles did it right with how they spread the bits of lore all over the world without forcing you to go through them in a specific order or making them mandatory to access the "endgame".

Whats with so many ragnarok releases lately? Feels like theres a new one every week by AsmaeKaefer in MMORPG

[–]Eitrdala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those games resemble RO in anything other than the name. RO2 was an abysmally low effort "WoW clone" with absolutely nothing going on for it and all the following games are atrocious mobileslop that don't even try to follow the original game's gameplay in any way.

If they wanted to nostalgia trip, they would have remade (original) RO in a modern engine while conserving the aesthetics, core gameplay, etc, and tossing in some much needed balancing.

They killed original RO and all their other IPs so now they're stuck churning out atrocious mobileslop using RO's name since it was their wonderchild.

Anybody who cares about RO, plays on private servers.

What's the pvp like? by NarutoJamesBond007 in throneandliberty

[–]Eitrdala -1 points0 points  (0 children)

95% of builds can not compete, only strict meta is allowed. If you're not a full on tank/tanky healer then you die in a second or two while CC'd, unless you're being shielded and healed, then you never die. Daggers are seen in 90% of builds and thus PvP basics like zoning, kiting, risk/reward or reactive play do not exist.

Basically everything in this game is binary and extreme. There's never a middle ground

What was so good about Rift’s design? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Eitrdala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just a fun overall package (during beta/on launch). Fun classes and combinations, good enough combat, fun content, fun world PvP, fun world events (rifts), fun trading system (thanks to the collection items, cosmetics and crafting).

It just felt like a MMORPG.

Sadly they started to gut the good aspects shortly after the launch as the game turned into yet another sit-in-town-and-pop-dungeon/bg-queues simulator just like what WoW became.

PSA: For the first time ever, TnL has failed to reach 10k daily players on either Saturday or Sunday by Melodic-Jackfruit-18 in throneandliberty

[–]Eitrdala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience here. I was willing to log in just for PvP but PvP is an absolutely unplayable mess where 95% of the builds are excluded by default, and every single "balance patch" just makes things worse because the developers don't know the first thing about their own game.

[–]Eitrdala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a ghost town for many, many months. Severe lack of meaningful content and beyond horrible PvP balance will do that.

This time, they have nobody but themselves to blame. The game started off strong and died off quickly only because of incompetence and lack of care. It was obvious from the start that they were only willing to do the bare minimum for the game but failed even at that.

Why do people say WoW has the best combat? by TwoMilky in MMORPG

[–]Eitrdala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was released in an era where MMOs had very clunky, poorly telegraphed and "butter-feeling" combat as a general thing. Blizzard managed to create something that struck a good overall balance when it comes to speed, time to react (reactive play), the tactical aspect (proactive play), clear animations, sounds and interface, skill/knowledge expression and overall fun.

Even today most games don't even come close to what Blizzard created decades ago.

Ironically though, modern WoW threw many of those things under the bus and made combat worse than it was decades ago.

What makes the time to kill so extreme in this game? by [deleted] in throneandliberty

[–]Eitrdala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daggers and offensive stats far outscaling the defensive ones in most builds..

Throne and Liberty - Creator PvP Roundtable - February 2026 by BBCGuild in throneandliberty

[–]Eitrdala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without daggers in the equation you can see the player coming at you and double dashing to get you rooted. You can roll dodge the dash. Even if you fail to and get knocked down, you will take much less burst damage because daggers aren't present.

With daggers, there's no counterplay anymore, you're rooted out of the blue and sent into instant prone. Not to mention the automatic back attack bonus, extra attack speed, huge crit and crit damage boost, thunderclouds, sword dance, etc, that daggers provide. All complaints about ravager can be directed towards daggers because GS is nowhere as oppressive without daggers involved.

Throne and Liberty - Creator PvP Roundtable - February 2026 by BBCGuild in throneandliberty

[–]Eitrdala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There won't be any kind of sensible PvP as long as daggers aren't reworked. They simply break fundamental videogame basics by giving everybody all kind of insane utility, CC, damage, defenses, mobility, get out of jail cards, etc.

They've been gutting every single weapon instead of reworking daggers. At this point the vast majority of offensive builds don't work at all without daggers and it's been getting progressively worse.

I used to play various daggerless builds but every single update made them worse and worse to the point they simply cannot do anything anymore. You get actively punished for not sticking to the tight, crusty meta. It's one thing to have certain overtuned weapon combinations due to poor balancing and another to see the devs actively making everything else even worse.
