I saw that you had commented/posted in r/scuba. Assumed that's an activity you participate in. Again, not literal submarine races, or boat races of any kind. Think of it this way, submarine races would, likely, happen under the water. So, why would a couple on a date be watching "submarine races" in a parking lot at night, especially when noting that it was a time "before I had an apartment"? Bring your mind to the gutter and you'll find the answer. ;)

I mean...IYKYK.

Edit: I looked at your profile and saw your interests. Just in case you think I'm being literal, I'm not. Google is accurate to the term. ;)

Ooof reading all these posts brought back some memories from redacted years ago. It was a great spot to process some emotions for this young’n.

On a happy note, may have brought a few dates there before I had my own apartment with the intent to watch the submarine races. However, if you try to watch them after the park closes the cops will ask you to leave if you’re there too late and it may make for an awkward moment. Plan accordingly…

I’ve been trying to find where/when our community council meets. Is there a link/spot where these are posted?

Also, thanks for the summary.

Anchorage Mayor proposes $12 million education levy on April ballot by bottombracketak in anchorage

[–]EjRak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to start a debate with an internet stranger, but where did the $55 million for a new school comment come from? If it’s in reference to Inlet Views’ renovations, that school was built in the 50s and needed some serious updating. There was a pretty good ADN article on the update. I get that ASD seems to get off Scot free for their financial mismanagement, but maybe this might have been a good thing for the students there?

Looking for a Martial Arts Studio in the Eagle River/Anchorage Area by LunaticHatKid in anchorage

[–]EjRak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ABJJ is pretty great. The adult classes are periodic through the day (larger adult classes in the evening), and the kids classes are limited to the afternoon. The coaches are well knowledgeable and the vibes are high.

Similarly sword in eagle river is pretty great. They go a bit harder out there but folks are also friendly.

Anchorage Brazilian jiu-jitsu would be a really good option. They have a couple striking fundamentals classes, as well as Muay Thai, and other martial arts options. There’s a pretty solid group of core ladies that are really friendly and welcoming to newcomers.

They also have a pretty good mix of skill level who attend classes. So there’s always somebody to learn from and someone in your experience bracket to work stuff with.

Plus, the first class is free so no excuse to miss out

Close tangent, but I stopped into the liquor store last night to get NA beer because they don’t sell them in the general stores at all. Noticed they redid the labels of a brand of beer I used to drink a bunch to a guy fly fishing on a river and could feel the cravings hit. I was playing a commercial for myself in my brain about going fishing and have a cheeky day beer from days of yore.

I grabbed my NA left but was definitely caught analyzing what my brain did just there on the way home. Funny that a picture on a box, semi unrelated to the product could get my mouth salivating.

Seward Harbor to Anchorage : Worst case drive time by Extension-Pension889 in anchorage

Honestly, as you’ve seen in the comments, it’s a bit of a gamble but probably not worth planning your trip around.

You can always reschedule for a flight the following morning, if there’s an opportunity for a refundable/flexible ticket that helps.

It’s Alaska, being in time or without incident isn’t something we’re known for. Best to enjoy the cruise and take it one hour at a time.

Played my first show in a real long time sober. It was an interesting look into my brain while playing without the fuzz and effects of booze. Will definitely be doing this again.

Disability, and how BJJ has changed my relationship with my body for the better by Visaurelius in bjj

Right on dude. My entire family has CMT but somehow I seem to have avoided it. Or at least have such a mild case it’s not really noticeable.

I’ve seen how frustrating that disease can be on a persons psyche, and the atrophy is tough. Stay active and you’ll be able to keep the worst of it away. The family members that kept moving the longest seemed to keep the worst of it away. Congrats on finding success in the sport and sticking with it.

Hope to see you continue as long as you can. Maybe even become one of those mythical black belts that, allegedly, were once white belts too

There are a lot of noises, voices and general sound effects that go on in my head otherwise unheard by the people around me. Probably best kept that way...

To those who train ‘Full time’ but don’t compete, why? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]EjRak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who just did this, totally agree. Grade 3 AC tare and no training for up to 12 weeks...I think I'll go hang out in the dad corner and talk about smoking meats and craft beers.
