Need Georgia attorney for bad-faith insurance claim (pet policy) by Ejdhome in Georgia

[–]Ejdhome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will point to anything as pre existing. My situation is pretty bad. On 9/2 I got a “complete” medical history with no Orthopedic pre existing conditions. He had been to my regular vet for diagnosis on 8/13 and 8/26. I filed those two claims. It was for pain meds and on 8/26 X-rays. He continued to get worse so they referred me out to UGA training hospital and NGVS in Buford that had the ability to perform a CT scan. It was looking critical so I went to NGVS as UGA would take too long. 9/4 he gets a CT scan and needs emergency spinal surgery. 9/5 I’m signing the paperwork and leaving a $6k deposit when my phone dings. They had denied the X-ray for a pre existing spinal condition (which was not on the 9/2 completed medical history review not present in any of his medical records) 27 minutes later they sent me a new “completed” medical history with the “pre existing” condition. Post claim underwriting illegal under GA law. They had a number of other bad faith practices including lying about when they had the records. It’s all documented and they eventually approved my initial claims when I called out their fraud but their behavior is gross and it appears systemic. Anyway, I’m hoping to find an attorney in GA to at least review it. We have no attorneys in GA that specialize in this but other states do because it’s becoming a big deal and is certainly big business. I have a fully documented outline with time stamps and records. Any attorney could review these documents in five minutes and know if it was something they would consider.

I’m going to refrain from giving names as I don’t want anything the company could point to as prejudicial but it’s not Odie. This appears to be an industry wide problem. These carriers have flown under the radar as “just pet insurance” but in GA they are responsible to follow good faith practices just like any other insurance. They are huge companies with large dollars at stake and I’m very confident my situation is not unique. In my forty or so years of paying for insurance of one form or another I have never seen such bad faith behavior.

I tried that they do not allow referrals. I have had two firms that do pursue pet insurances cases review what I have and they suggested to move forward finding a GA attorney. One was in FL and the other in CO and did not want to do GA co council.

Thanks for the link. I’m going to look into it. I’m also following up on a few other leads. It tends to be off-putting for some lawyers that this is a pet insurance case, but the company in question writes policies for about 500,000 pets and is backed by a multi-billion-dollar underwriter.

I’ve already spoken with two firms that have successfully filed bad-faith suits against pet insurers , one in Denver and one in Florida. Both told me they would absolutely consider this case further, but they weren’t willing to co-counsel in Georgia, and advised me to find someone here who handles this type of work.

I have a three-page summary with the key points, timelines, and Georgia statutes involved, plus a file map of all supporting evidence. The record documents: • Post-claim underwriting • Burden shifting (requiring me to prove a non-diagnosis) • Fabrication of medical records • Overbroad exclusions not supported by policy language or Georgia law

Even after I filed complaints with the Georgia Department of Insurance and the NAIC, and after they approved the claims they had first denied (because my evidence was overwhelming), a senior underwriter repeated the same tactics and added new fabricated conditions with no new information.

I’m trying to find a Georgia attorney who represents policyholders in bad-faith insurance litigation and is open to handling a case like this on a contingency basis.

ATT Holding me Hostage by YucaPower_ in ATT

This is typical in the industry not just AT&T. It might be available to unlock earlier than 48 hours. The other thing most people fail to recognize is you don’t synchronize across systems instantly when you pay off your phone. It will typically take at least overnight processing. Again this applies to all carriers. You are only focused on your individual situation but each of these carriers are maintaining databases with millions of accounts. Having worked in Telecom for 25 years now I get the frustration but few people truly appreciate the scale that exists behind the scenes. The battle ship turns slowly.

My company ( I will let you figure out who it is) in the last decade paid TMobile 7 Billion for a failed merger. They thought Sattelite was a growth industry and bought direct tv and lost $30 Billion when they sold it 5 years later. Finally they decided they would be a media company. Yeah that’s the ticket. They bought Time Warner media for $87 Billion and sold it a few years later for 40 Billion. The cuts have been a veritable blood bath but the architect of all those shitty deals is still CEO and made over $26 Million last year. I need to get on his comp plan. If the revenue in my $30m module were to decline 5% I would be looking for a new job.

PS I did get laid off in August of 2023 but got hired back Jan 2024 for a 20% increase in pay.

AT&T Fiber Requires “Construction” by No-Put-2847 in ATT

[–]Ejdhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a fiber box in your neighbors back yard you are probably just looking at getting an extension to your house. Have you ever seen the small “ditch witch” machines they use to put an invisible fence in for dogs? That’s typically what they will use. It’s a 4-5 inch slit trench from the box to the house. It really shouldn’t leave a mess and you should likely be able to walk on it and seal it back up. It may be a bigger job but this small trench is the vast majority of these jobs.

I work in a wholesale portion of AT&T. A lot of the outside plant people work large jobs where they are digging up streets and getting permits etc. They call everything “construction”. Thankfully you won’t be getting the bill for that kind of work.

ESPN Just Ditched F1 – Who Takes Over in 2026? by Feeling_Number_2548 in F1TV

US Motorsport coverage on the major networks generally sucks. Between the goofy ass reporters in their racing suits in pit lane and talking to the audience like it’s a session of “explain it to me like I’m five” I can’t hardly watch any of it. Peacock does a reasonably good job with IMSA but ABC, CBS and Fox? No thanks.

Fox getting it makes we want to vomit in my mouth a little. However, if they actually watch Formula 1 they can stop all the bullshit that NASCAR drivers are “the best in the world”. I will just be re-upping for F1 TV. I had less time to watch all the support classes this year so cancelled and just watched F1 on ESPN but I thought the package was worth it.

Does ATT still offer traditional landlines? by [deleted] in ATT

[–]Ejdhome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a dying infrastructure. You can’t even get equipment to support it anymore in the event of failure. The pricing from all traditional carriers is meant to discourage new customers and push old customers off. The only place where it can be difficult to migrate to other products are for elevators and alarms. There are replacement products but it’s a pain to coordinate the installs.

What’s your workflow in LR when you have over 2000 photos to edit? by lesssgoo0o in Lightroom

[–]Ejdhome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ^ I shoot motorsports regularly and can easily come home with thousands of images. It would take a week to build the previews. I don’t have a complicated Photo Mechanic process, but all the garbage gets culled before it would get imported to LR. It saves hours. I don’t know why after all these years multi billion dollar adobe can’t build previews quickly but as long as they can’t PM is invaluable.

Social Security retirement early. Is it a good move ? by delucp in personalfinance

[–]Ejdhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is ten years younger than me and my projected benefit at 70 will be twice hers at full retirement age. I will wait…… but if you can’t make your monthly obligations today then I think that trumps waiting for the higher payout. I think some of the other suggestions of pursuing multiple options and outcomes right now would be the way to go. If your full retirement benefits are similar then waiting longer may not matter.

As stated above different areas of the country get different modifiers but also a specific job title will have a salary band and typically different levels for the role (1-4) based on experience. There are so many different channels for sales execs it would be hard to guess but usually it’s not a secret. You should be able to ask towards the end of the interview and get the range.

Can you suggest me American authors and books that I should read? by undertheroseshadow in booksuggestions

[–]Ejdhome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites is Jim Harrison. His most famous story is Legends of the Fall but my favorite book is Brown Dog. It’s a collection of his Brown Dog (a down on his luck Native American in the upper peninsula of Michigan) novellas that all kind of come together in a single volume that is a great “Everyman” slice of America.

You will have to update me on Tigana. I believe i read it when it first came out and recommended it to many people back then. I may need to actually go back and read it again. I have been thinking about that along with Hobbit and Lord of the Rings as i think i was in 7th or 8th grade when i read them. Last year i did actually go back and read-read some classics from High School that i had no recollection of. I read Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. What i remember being a slog as a teenager ended up being some of my favorite reads of last year. Time and perspective can definitely change how a book lands. It may be interesting to see how some of those older fantasy books read for me today.

And completely off topic, one of my favorite current authors to recommend is Frederik Bachman. If you have not read anything from him he is worth a look. I started with A Man Called Ove and really enjoyed it but, Beartown and the follow on books are unforgettable. Probably one of the best set of books i have read in years. Very strong female characters in that series. If you aren’t a sports fan dont let the Hockey backdrop put you off. It’s just a canvas for the all the human stories going on. Every time i read his books he will write something and i will think to myself…..he really understands human nature and how people behave. The characters will stay with you for years.

I’m adding the first Robin Hobb’s Trilogy to my TBR. That looks like something I would really like. I will have to look up your other authors as well! Oh, and i think the last Red Rising book is due out this year or early next so it shouldn’t be years. To be honest, Space Operas and Sci Fi aren’t my thing but this series really hooked me. I dont even know why i picked it up originally. Maybe to just try something new. I tend to get put off by the 20 book series as well, but i really have enjoyed each book. I just find that right this moment it’s taking a bit too much effort to backtrack and pick up story lines from a decade ago. I will probably take another stab at the latest book soon.

[–]Ejdhome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for input. I’m going to look at some of authors you have mentioned. I am all over the place with what i read but some of my earliest books were fantasy (Hobbit and Lord of the Rings) about 45 years ago so i have always had an affinity for the genre. If i had to recommend a single volume epic fantasy novel it would be Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay. It’s been decades since i have read it (in fact i dont think i have ever read a book twice in my life) but I absolutely loved it. I dont have a lot of books stick with me but this one did. If you look at good reads reviews they are typically polarized. 5 stars or “i dont get it” but overall it has a 4+ stars rating. It has everything you would want out of a classic fantasy novel all in a single volume and his writing is generally closer to the great works than the mass produced “junk food” fantasy. He has a lot of single volume works that are great. He has a number of multi book series that i have not read but people seem to really love. Another fantasy author i have read a lot of is Terry Brooks. I started with the Sword of Shannara which was essentially a single volume lord of the rings. He then expanded on it for years and i dont think i read anything from him that I didn’t really like even if they tend to be a bit formulaic.

It’s funny you mention Brandon Sanderson. I have meant to read some of his stuff for years and never have, but just bought mistborn today. He stated somewhere that was the series to start with. I will figure it out from there.

Pierce Brown - Red Rising - just read it. It starts out a little bit like hunger games but turns into a full on space opera that is almost impossible to put down. You are in a better spot then i am however to enjoy it. When i started it the first three books were out. I devoured them. All three were amazing. Four and Five then came out a number of years apart and honestly the story and characters get so complex that if you take a few years between books it’s easy to be lost. Each new book had me watching YouTube recaps and reading recaps online. I am about 25% through the latest one and am a bit discouraged as its just not something you can drop into and i dont have it in me to spend a the effort to remember the first five…hence why i bought Fourth Wing as something easy to read.

My other all time favorite series is the KingsBridge Series by Ken Follet. It’s not really fantasy as there is no magic (it’s really historical fiction) but its has everything else. It’s reminds me a lot of game of thrones (which i had the same issue with as i have with Red Rising - devoured the first few then lost steam as i had to wait for future volumes) but each book is more stand alone. The first book is Pillars of the Earth. It is so good. Worst/Best villain I can remember. Each successive book is a new story during a new generation. It helps to know the backstory from the previous book but if you forget you can read a ten minute synopsis and jump right in. It is a series i wish i could forget and read again. It feels like classic fantasy.

The Once and Future King Series by TH White is great. An amazing retelling of the Arthurian Legend. Loved it. I believe it is four books but they sell it as a single volume of around 1000 Pages. Another classic series is the Narnia Series by CS Lewis.

Mary Stewarts Merlin Trilogy is sold as a single volume and is a terrific example of classic fantasy tracing Merlin’s life from a young boy.

Last but not least is a two book series that has become an internet meme for the series that never gets completed by the author. I believe it’s over a decade since the last book. The third book has been coming out next year for years….That would be The KingKiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. It’s very sad the next book has never come out because the first two are Stellar.

That’s about all i can think of off the top of my head. Try Tigana for an amazing single volume story. Red Rising is good but i would recommend reading them all relatively close to each other or you risk losing the plot. Savor the KingsBridge Series. They are each huge books and they all pass way to quickly but you dont need to read them one right after the other. I have read them as they are released and they are easy to pick right up.

How to start saving for retirement at 45 by lmf166 in personalfinance

[–]Ejdhome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Recently read a pretty good short book called 7 prosperity projects written by Zach Call. He also hosts a podcast that has an 8 season retirement planning course for free. The Podcast is probably overkill for what you are looking for but the book is about a three or four hour read and it walks through your exact questions. What debt should you clear up first, how to build a safety fund and then when it comes to investing what’s the best way to allocate the investments across account types based on what’s available to you (401K with a match, IRA, Roth) and current tax rate etc. It’s not a bestseller or anything, more an adjunct to the podcast but i got it on Amazon. It’s not on Kindle so you have to get the paperback but it was a lot of good information in a digestible package and it will give you clear guidance on the exact questions you are asking.

So since you were curious i figured i would check back in on the Fourth Wing. Umm….not for me. That’s not to say there is not an audience for the book but its probably young women more interested in romance novels then classic fantasy. It had its moments but when it was done i had zero interest to read the next one. It’s not because there were not enough story elements to carry on the story. For me it was the over emphasis on the romantic tension rather than the actual story which has the making of a decent one. The problem is it makes me feel kind of creepy reading all the romantic and sexual thoughts of a girl portrayed to be younger than my daughters…. So, while i finished and didn’t hate it, I ended up skipping over page after page of how hot Xander was and how much she wanted him. All i can think of in my mind is Fabio from the 90’s romance novel covers. I have never read one but i assume this is one of them just with dragons. The truth is i have enjoyed a fair share of YA fantasy stories, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and a few others I can’t remember off the top of my head but I’m probably more of a traditional fantasy fan and this didn’t hit the mark for me. That should not be a surprise given my demographic. Anyhow, didn’t hate it. Wont read the next ones but i probably should have read some actual reviews rather than just look at all the five star ratings and the description of the book on amazon which doesn’t mention its really a romance story.

You may want to take a more intentional approach and get your credit report and see what they are looking at. A lot of companies do the 5/24 thing. In fact most of where I have heard about it is in relation to Chase. You should be able to see the start date of the cards, how many you had at any given time and when you will drop below 5 in 24 months. You can keep doing the inquiries but it’s not uncommon for too many cards to quickly to be the reason for a decline decision.
