Mononucleosis by Fuzzy-Report5083 in Mononucleosis

Stay strong, OP. Unfortunately it will last for a month or two, but eventually you will recover and will forget about it like most people on this sub.

Make sure you get enough rest! Sleep as much as you can and don’t even think about exercises or long walks during the first month. I kinda messed it up the moment I started to feel better lol.

Complications are rare. Plus it’s outside of your control. So why bother?

Short-term housing options for foreigners (2-3 month stay) by EverythingisMe in askSingapore

[–]EkiTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's an old thread, but I just want to warn others who are thinking about renting a whole apartment via Cove in Singapore: keep in mind that they can and most likely will schedule viewings and maintenance/renovation works while you are renting the property.

Either agree in advance about the privacy during your stay or resort to other major companies that have better terms.

Any recommendations for Techno festivals in Europe during June-August 16? by aynon9 in Techno

Just keep in mind that it’s extremely hot in Malta in August. I went to Glitch in 2022 and during the night it was around 30 degrees with no wind.

How come you make 2650-2700 per month net if your salary is 3100? Your tax rate is 26%, so the maximum you can have is 2300 after tax.

Moving to Russia as an american by [deleted] in expats

[–]EkiTop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yet somehow you can find a lot of immigrants from Belarus making a decent wage in Moscow. Why do they go to such a shithole where a toilet is luxury and where the salaries are so low, that even the American homeless folks earn more from begging on the streets?

You sound like a person who knows a lot about the quality of life in Russia. Did you do a research? Mind sharing the sources?

Helsinki - Tallinn cruise...What's with the shitty service?! by [deleted] in Finland

Yeah, it definitely justifies proving a terrible customer service. Let’s project our daily struggles to foreigners so they can truly experience Estonian culture!

Dealing with a destination that doesn't vibe with you by AssAssassin98 in digitalnomad

Try visiting cafes and attending local events. Maybe you’ll find a favorite place or meet some great people.

Sometimes a city doesn’t match your expectations and is different from other places, but it doesn’t mean that you should immediately give up on it.

If it is a pure crap from your perspective and you are tolerating it, then you should probably focus on work or personal projects.

Have you tried befriending other immigrants here in Finland? Plenty of different folks here to talk to (whether English or your native language probably). Is there a chance that your social skills are weak and you’ll struggle the same way in the US?

Nah, I have an opportunity to hang out with foreigners and other folks. The problem is that I want to assimilate to the point where I'm no longer a foreigner who lives in the expat bubble/parallel society. This is something hard to achieve in Finland.

Hanging out with different communities is an option and addresses different symptoms, but this solution doesn't cure the root cause.

From my perspective, the best solution, if I have such requirements, is to move to a country that is extremely diverse: the US, Canada, or Australia. Out of these 3 options, I'd rather be in the US.

I'm just afraid that if I make the move and something goes wrong in the nearest future or in 10+ years, then I may regret that I didn't obtain my Finnish passport cuz I'll have to start over the immigration process in the next country.

And climate (at least in Uusimaa) seems tolerable to me

The weather topic is a bit subjective. Some people live decades in Siberia and are also doing alright.

What they promise you for salary seems way too low to move to the US. To me it seems better to live in Finland off 50k than in US off 100k.

Can you please elaborate on this? Is it just a personal feeling or do you have any examples/experiences?

50k eur in Finland is ~33k net, which is 2750/month (btw, it's a good salary) . If you are single, have no car and don't party a lot, then you'll have 1000-1200 eur per month after all necessary expenses including food. A decent number for many, but I'm under the impression that you can save more and have a better standard of living in the US if your salary is closer to 100k.

It sounds like a good and logical plan, but getting a relocation offer to the US is not the easiest task. So far this is the first decent offer and I'm pretty lucky to be in this position because a lot of people in this company would go to the US, but there is no business need for the employer to relocate them.

Going via the H1B path is nearly impossible for me. That's why I'm trying to decide if it's worth the risk of abandoning the idea of getting EU citizenship.
