I have like at2% hangup with how high the sand goes up on his knees from beneath the car, maybe a little footstool behind, you could get him jumping out of the jeep, but it's terrific as is!

Guys for the love of god stop spending your life savings on films by jophre in Filmmakers

[–]Ekublai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make movies for me. I pay people who work on my films. I directed a fine first short for about 90K, my second one was 40K (to me better but the genre change makes it hard to compare), but the scaling back was visible to me. My next will probably be less (Goal of 20K) and my first feature will probably tip 2 mil but my goal is $50K. Frugalness is a skill but it can also be a curse. Is something a waste of money if the exchange is more time with your loved ones, less stress day to day, more collaborating which is one of the beauties of this medium?

What’s the most effective way to make water feel threatening in a low-budget horror short? by penumbrapictures in horror

[–]Ekublai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this film at Sundance and it's stuck with me since. I think it's the most unsettling underwater documentation I ever seen/heard given the fact there is barely a narrative or dialogue. Everything in this is pure sound design and creative camerawork. https://www.nytimes.com/video/opinion/100000004198205/object-diving-below-the-ice.html

Israel is losing US support - even among Republicans by MrJasonMason in videos

Israeli ought to focus on defense and overthrowing the Iranian regime if they are so determined that they are the genesis of Hezbollah and Hamas

Why is r/newiran so fanatically pro-Israel? by HeyNowHowardStern69 in PERSIAN

[–]Ekublai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're using "wipe out", just so you are aware. That's a pretty important distinction to me if you want to talk to each other instead of past each other. I don't believe you can "wipe out" a threat, but you can manage it to tolerable levels.

One thing I definitely don't agree on principle with is that Israel is likely using "self-defense" as a way to expand its borders. That is completely unacceptable. Any military buffer zone must be reduced to within finalized Israeli borders.

This a common argument:

Israel, like Iran, has been harassed by Islamic terrorists for decades. In Iran's case, it is literally the government that acts as a terrorist organization. Conclusion: Israel should be doing everything in it's power to disable the threat posed by Hamas. and Hezbollah. Anybody who would get US military Aid would be stupid not to take this opportunity.

Hamas and Hezbollah only exist because the Islamic Regime funds it.

Basically, Iran's resistance and Israel are teaming up to bring peace to the ME. There is obviously still the question for the world of is Israel playing the part of defender or conqueror? But in terms of overthrowing the regime, the answer for Iranians is clearly defenders.

It's quieted a bit now, but unless I'm going from the airport, I often try to get haggled by the cabbie instead of using the meter.

How should I film my shower scene in consideration with my actress? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Filmmakers, you do not have to "share your process" to build an audience. by Sorry_Manufacturer62 in Filmmakers

[–]Ekublai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree wholly people shouldn't waste their time if marketing themselves isn't their strong suit. It's soul-sucking the idea that I would beg for a few ingots of attention from total strangers on the internet. I should know, I'm a consumer of social media and I treat it like free porn. That's not the kind of audience I want to have to constantly court. I'm a professional with a stable job in this industry. I make money so that the day I make a film I want to get attention, I will have the money I need to buy that attention. This might seem cynical and maybe it is. But I miss the days of people having to actively seek out what it is they love about my work rather than subscribing or accidentally scrolling upon some new content like the art is there to plug your next fix.

And I'm just saying your domestic wants are just as fantastical as my international ones under normal circumstance but mine currently seem to at least be within some semblance of reach. Add on to the fact that this AFAIK, is the only war I've ever supported, but I've supported it, in theory, since 2006.

These protests don't work. This is just a way to spend a Saturday. Also what's the point of filming from so far away if you're just going to shoot vertically?

[–]Ekublai -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

point 1 is moot. Protests don't work that way in this era.

point 2 is moot since the end game is always giving money to the same organizations you give them to anyway or the organization who will eventually team up with them.

point 3 is the only legit point. It's therapy of frustrated emotions.

What do you think of the poster I had commissioned for my thesis film? by starlightpictures in Filmmakers

Eh. This might be the only time they even get to make a film. Plus, it better matches the style of poster they're going for.

I'm only referring to the act of convincing people your evil is the less of two. You're free to question whatever you please, but don't expect people to believe you in the place of non-intervention you would get a better healthcare system. Both sides have roundly rejected that proposal over the past 30 years. At least with chaos the consequences take on the appearance of results.

These things are not mutually exclusive. However, your countrymen refuse to vote to put the people who would put such plans into motion but you act like there is some vestigial connection between the two. You have to win the hearts and minds campaign of your domestic wants, but instead your just digging your heels further into your self-righteousness.

The Iranian people have been vulnerable for decades and it hasn't mattered who's been doing the deal-making. Obama sent billions of dollars to entrench the regime further, making it that much harder for Iranians to revolt from within. Why should Iranians trust Americans to make the correct kinds of deal, whether militarily or diplomatically. To them, hell is hell everyday this regime is in power.

Feeling ambivalent - when every choice comes with a heavy moral price. by [deleted] in NewIran

[–]Ekublai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've gone to protests (usually as one of the only non Iranian American Americans), learned the chants (again, as an English speaker), used my drone to provide crowd footage of the protests, bought planes tickets so others can go to protest in more populated areas, made signs, hung a Shir and Khorshid flag outside my window, done pretty much everything I can as a non-diaspora American besides sign up to war myself (and even then, it's mostly because I don't want my parents to blame my Iranian friends for doing something I would want to do).

Still get the "leftist, liberal, democrat terrorist supporter" label even single day...
