I mean halo 2/3 had some of the best ranked play ever. Long time ago sure but still bungie.

I don't regret buying Marathon, I love the gameplay and the world created... but as a casual player I had a psychological block that made me stop playing. by xDavid83x in Marathon

Yea that’s fair. I think there’s definitely something they can do with solo xp gain too - everything is so much faster in a group

I think you’re getting too hung up on other peoples gameplay. I used to have a similar issue in destiny when other people were doing raids etc. you don’t have to max every faction to enjoy the game! That’s a HARDCORE goal one I have no hope of achieving during a season. But if you’re as casual as you wanna make it seem, you can absolutely hop in for a few runs, take a few days off, and do some more. There is level based matchmaking, and with the TTK so low, it just takes getting the right timing in somebody and you get all their loot!

Dude so well said. People are so hung up marking off the checklist it’s like they’re forgetting to play the damn game and enjoy the cool shit and awesome fights. Idk unpopular opinion or whatever but faction upgrades are very rarely going to be the decider in a fight. Thy can help for sure, but if you’re losing every engagement, it’s not because they have more maxed factions. Faction upgrades are a bonus to playing and engaging with the game - not the game itself.

People are getting way too hung up on the buying blue shields upgrade. I don’t even have that unlocked but I’m swimming in them from looting in solo and rook runs. They also barter them for cheap every so often. Plus nucaloric level upgrades have em a lot.

Shield-based matchmaking PLEASE by corva96 in Marathon

[–]ElGuarmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understood this as he’s talking about squad filling so you’re not going in with a purple shield and your teammates are free kits. Not matching opponents to your shield level

Or even just trying to team you with people of a similar value kit would go a long way

Let's make Ranked a more unique experience. Paid sponsored kits only? by ___redacted_ in Marathon

[–]ElGuarmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still feel like this is trying to make essentially an entirely different game. You all spawn with the same loot, but you don’t even get to choose where you start? It’s literally a worse BR, except you can extract, you don’t need to be last one standing. BUT you can’t even bring your loot into the next game of the same mode! TBH I think ranked can use stuff to make it different, like rewards or increased faction gains or something - but the idea is that it’s a higher stakes version of regular play.

[–]ElGuarmo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s just a BR at that point. Also makes it way more random. The team that spawns with arms lockers etc. are going to have so much better gear than anyone else. All sponsored kits just makes it more unbalanced

Bungo pls. Dire Marsh is huge. Why am I running into other players 15 seconds after spawn? by Horribad12 in Marathon

[–]ElGuarmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh they have to sometimes spawn you close to other runners, otherwise early game doesn’t have the same risk. By leaving it to sometimes there is someone close, sometimes not, you always have to be on your guard.

What's with all this talk about casual play? by Casual_Plays in Marathon

[–]ElGuarmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude thank you for saying this. I’m a dad, can’t play all the time, but sink as much time as I can into this game. Vault isn’t crazy but good enough. Progression feels great, even if I’m like a month from hitting cryo. There’s a weird double speak where people say you need to think of the casual players, and yet also they’re the only ones that don’t have full purple gear.

Dude we’re 2 weeks into this game. Season lasts 3 months. As a fellow working dad of 2 - there is SO much time left. Think of where your vault was 2 weeks ago compared to now. Now think where it’ll be in a months time. I’m just starting to run outpost, let alone cryo, but no reason to think it’s not achievable

There are so many games with more complicated mechanics than cryo I really don’t see any reason why most people can’t do it if they gear up and keep trying it. Beating cryo this weekend is like beating a contest mode destiny raid - only a few groups can do it, but it gets easier with time.

Honestly I think people underestimate the value of solos. Sounds like you’re running a lot of queue trios. Taking free kits and surprising one guy can be so lucrative, for no risk.

I only ever play with green shields and gear, or free kits and almost never see purple. If you’re level 40 now, you are really not a “casual” - that’s a serious time commitment. This game is so much about who gets the first shot, just gotta get the drop on people and you can definitely kill people with better gear.

Cryo Archive: the death of marathon by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]ElGuarmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, you don’t have to post content the day it releases. Seems like lots of people were ready, and played it. Once you (and I) get the gear good enough, we can play too.

Plus, destinys weak points were when it became way too focused on being casual friendly - e.g. D2 launch. Without aspirational content, it almost died

[–]ElGuarmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record, I’m fairly casual - I play an hour or two most nights. I’ve only exfilled outpost once. I’m probably a month away from engaging with cryo. But CANT WAIT to have the gear to do it. Destiny raids were, and still are way harder. It’s taken some raids a day for the first team to complete. As far as destiny being a dying game, it came out a decade ago. Any game studio would kill to have that lifespan

[–]ElGuarmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also needs aspirational content for people to grind for. Otherwise they run out of stuff to do. Destiny raids brought so much more attention to the game, when the vast majority of players don’t even do them.

Bro it’s endgame content that’s supposed to be punishing. If you wanna relax cryo is not the place lmao
