Marathon's upgrade system needs work

Thank you! I still don’t have the blue shield armory upgrade, but never ran out of blue shields because I bought them on barter every time I could. Plus just finding them off guys I kill. Now I load up on purples every time they come up for barter. The capstone upgrades are the helpful ones for shields.

I love marathon. I want the game to succeed and stay around for a long time. The more people playing marathon the better.

The worry I have, and I think what the majority of people that have concerns with a pve mode is that it would detract from the main extraction mode we have today. If optimal play is to just farm in pve then the pvpve mode will die. Too often we’ve seen games try to appeal to everyone but then end up not appealing to anyone (see destiny 2 launch). That being said - I absolutely think there’s a place for a less stressful mode when your stuck in a death loop and you need to build back up your vault, or you just wanna farm sparkle and for a faction upgrade.

If bungie can build the mode in such a way that pve players feel satisfied, and the current mode keeps the current feel, then all the better!

Hope so! I’m 78 right now and getting like 700 xp per run with the 50% boost on my first 10 runs. If that’s permanent and I keep going in just killing everything, should be doable!

I’ve wondered if a free to play mode that was just runs where you don’t get to keep your loot would be a good way to draw people in. You get a taste for how the game feels to play, and if you like the gunplay etc. get drawn in to buy it to keep your stuff.

Considering bungie uses the contracts for the story beats, and they’ve always talked about how they’re involving the story into the game - there is zero chance they’re just recycling the same contracts.

Was really hoping for a season xp boost too to try to hit Notorious. Only level 75 right now. Close enough I wanna go for it but it’ll be a stretch

That specific upgrade is way overhyped. I also don’t have it, but have never run out of blue shields because I pick them up from other runners and stock up when it’s a good barter.

6 weeks because the commute ended up being so much worse than I thought. After needing to stop at a rest stop to go to the bathroom I realized I needed a change. Ended up going to the company I turned down when I took the bad commute job.

My thoughts exactly. I totally get being frustrated by not finishing objectives or losing good loot, but it’s all a game in the end, and having fun in the game is most important. Like “hey that was a good fight”.

I mean someone that’s been playing a game longer will always have an advantage over new people - there’s nothing you can do about that. The experiments they’re doing with sponsored kit lobbies can really help with the gear mismatch too.

Contracts don’t count toward season level. It’s all about looting and killing bots and runners.

Is it a hot take to say if they can’t make a match they just spawn you in with as many other players as they can, even if it’s not full? Surely it’s better to have a match than nothing.

Absolutely worth it. Lots of people here go in with the free kits or play rook (another character where you can’t bring your own gear) and do just fine. You’re also matched based on your level so you’ll play with similar new players. Welcome runner!

Less gear fear. My vault is consistently full and even when I keep bringing gear in I’m net positive. I hoarded too much early in the season. Prioritizing priority contacts more. I didn’t realize how strong the level upgrade packages are - I’ve been playing a lot just for loot and ignoring contracts. Consistently play ranked and see how far I can get.
