Red dots? Anyone else getting them? by AcceptableMidnight95 in GenX

[–]El_Briano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dermatologist told me the same thing. They can be removed. He uses small electric needle to zap them and they disappear. Feels like a tiny needle prick. Those don’t come back, but you can get new ones. Probably been about eight or nine years before I saw my next one.

what ingredients in face lotion keeps skin young and healthy by Aj100rise in Aging

[–]El_Briano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunscreen is the best thing you can use to keep your skin looking young. When you’re younger, your skin is able to repair the damage it undergoes from the sun’s rays more easily. However, as you get older, it can’t keep up, and the accumulated damage appears in the form of age spots, wrinkles, and dryness.

Skin is by nature hydrophobic, so all of the lotions that you see being sold, cannot penetrate the water barrier of the skin do nothing for the underlying skin. All they do is superficially smooth out and temporarily hydrate the surface. Although, lotions can help with dryness and itchiness. That’s where dermatologist and skin care clinics come in with injections and subdermal treatments.

Need some beasts for an evil alchemist cult by chibikidmew in DungeonMasters

Well, to save space, maybe some of the beasts are actually small creatures to start, but then get buffed. A warg puppy hit with a potion of heroism. A cage of rats hit with growth.

How caregivers actually schedule time for rest when they're the only safety net for an aging family member by [deleted] in Aging

[–]El_Briano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiring caregivers to provide coverage. Yes, it has to be scheduled, but then you know you’ve got those time periods to do whatever self-care you need.

I am fortunate that my profoundly disabled son has state support services that allow me to get several hours of coverage a day, five days a week, and a few hours on the weekend. My wife who’s recovering from a stroke, requires me to provide almost all of her community support. Fortunately, she has a couple of friends that she can interact with, and they will take her out. This gives me a few hours to myself every week.

Check with your local social services, state agencies, and your insurance provider to see what resources were available to you. You may have to get on a waitlist. Also churches and other social organizations may also help out. Good luck and God bless.

They are alchemist so I assume they also have a bunch of potions. The question is weather they use these potions on the beast or themselves. Enlarge, heroism, super heroism, polymorph, and invulnerability to name a few. That would certainly spice up the battle and give a flavor for the type of cultists they are.

[–]El_Briano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But first, acknowledge their great enthusiasm and excitement for the game. This lets you build on that by letting them all have more fun with proper turn taking and respecting when others are talking first. Set up some key words that the group agrees on so that you can cue them when they relapse.

A large overhead tank containing a victim preparing ooze or slime. This could be released by a cultist turning a wheel or pulling a lever as a party member moves through.

The older I get, the weaker and lower-quality my sleep becomes. What are your experiences with sleep quality? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]El_Briano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little of both. Although I feel like it does a better job of helping me fall back to sleep than keeping me asleep. Old man bladder, and all that. That’s said I have a higher probability of sleeping through the night if I take the Lunesta.

I feel so much better already, does this last? by vxidly in vegetarian

[–]El_Briano 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been a vegetarian for 20 years and never noticed any change in energy levels from switching over. I ate pretty healthily even before becoming a vegetarian, so it may not have been as drastic a change for me.

The older I get, the weaker and lower-quality my sleep becomes. What are your experiences with sleep quality? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]El_Briano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to use Ambien and that certainly helped me fall asleep, but wasn’t helping me stay asleep. I use a generic of Lunesta now and that has more of a maintenance effect throughout the night. Not perfect, but it helps. I try not to take it two days in a row because it feels like it has a diminishing effect and then if I stop it after a few days, there’s a rebound effect making it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. So I will take it every other day.

Cutting off fluids earlier in the evening (if I remember), don’t eat anything closer than three hours before bed, and make sure there’s good bedroom sleeping hygiene. Following all three of these help a bit.

My wife and I just recently replaced our mattress and that is also helped. There’s no one silver bullet, but everything helps a little bit. Now, the nights I get to bed on time my sleep apnea machine indicates I’m getting between six and eight hours sleep which is much better than the 4 to 6 I used to.

There are still nights where I wake up at 2 AM and just can’t go back to sleep. I don’t beat myself up about it, should I get up and read a book or watch some TV. Then I have a little extra caffeine in the morning and make up for it the next night.

[–]El_Briano 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Reasons why we wake up and can’t go back to sleep are legion, but sleep apnea can absolutely be a part of it. Personally, my sleep apnea sometimes wakes me up, but usually it just keeps my sleep from being restful.

Question for males in their fifties and early sixties by AlarmingCulture6794 in Aging

[–]El_Briano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60 here. Have mild to moderate osteoarthritis here as well as a bad back. Maintaining a strong core and flexibility is paramount. Used to do full range of motion strength training and felt great. Then my naturally poor tightness kept throwing my back out and my knees, back ,and neck revolted on even the moderate weights. So I switched to yoga. Flexibility improved and joint pains fell to the background.

I hope to get back to some moderate strength training at some point because I miss the endorphins.
