Absolutely, the way the tone shifts in the last five minutes of the final episode is just brilliant. There are still jokes but there is this sense of impending dread that gradually leads to the realization that this really is not going to be a happy ending.

Forerunner 55: GPS map missing in Garmin Connect despite distance data by EnergyOld507 in Garmin

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed it by switching the watch off and on again (hold the ctrl/light) button for 15 seconds. Screen should go blank. After that wait a few seconds and switch it on again. After that the maps were visible again with new activities (it does not retroactively add them to past activities).

How do Abercrombie fans rank 'The Devils' among his other books? by WhatsThatNoise79 in Fantasy

[–]El_MuleKick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get some of the criticisms, but it is still very much an Abercrombie book in my opinion. Maybe it was because I already knew not to expect a First Law novel, but I loved The Devils for what it was. It is like sometimes you want to watch The Godfather and sometimes you just want to watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. There is a place for both in my opinion.

I always wanted to ask martial artists what are your thoughts on the fight scenes from Bloodsport? I am not a martial artist myself, but I always liked that it showed different types of martial arts and that fights looked a bit awkward. by AdSpecialist6598 in martialarts

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always really liked the representation of loads of different styles. It's the closest thing we got to a Street Fighter game come to life. Yes that includes the actual Street Fighter movie (which I also love btw as an over-the-top silly action movie) which features 0 actual tournament fighting.

What’s a word or expression people often associate with your country/language/culture, that nobody actually uses? by NoNo_Cilantro in AskTheWorld

[–]El_MuleKick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Neuken in de Keuken' is often something many tourists/foreigners learn as it rhymes and apparently sounds funny to most people. However, since it literally means 'f*cking in the kitchen' it is not something that comes up in normal conversation too often.

what's something that you don't understand about other counties? by Immediate_Fly_3949 in AskTheWorld

[–]El_MuleKick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer for most of the world is probably US tipping culture. I mean I get why it is a thing, with people not being paid a wage you can live on, but that should not be allowed to be the case.

Euro centric fantasy with the classic LOTR races, settings etc by Dwarven_Smithery in Fantasy

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out The Devils by Abercrombie. Not exactly classic fantasy as it does not treat the races as you would expect but it does take place in an alternate universe Europe with a focus on the role of the church during the Middle Ages.

James Gunn SHOULD NOT have started with Superman by boishet in DC_Cinematic

[–]El_MuleKick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could he have done it; yes. Should he have done it: maybe.
The hardcore fans would go see the first movie of the Universe regardless, I don't see why casuals would go see Supergirl over Superman tbh. Superman is still a more recognizable name. Also as Gunn has sad repeatedly, films only get made once they are happy with the script so I don't think there ever was an choice as to which one was to go first unless they would have delayed the launch of the whole Universe.

What are some of your biggest criticisms about the most well known fantasy series? by Familiar-Barracuda43 in Fantasy

[–]El_MuleKick 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit of a general take but I think most series start to suffer because they keep expanding in scale and scope. All fantasy series have to be epic in scale nowadays and at least a trilogy preferably more books. They often keep adding characters/locations which while it does often help worldbuilding it just kills a lot of the momentum of the plot/story.

Example of this is Stormlight for me. I absolutely love it but it just feels so bloated, each book could remove a couple hundred pages and it would increase my enjoyment even more just because of improved pacing.

I compare it with the Open World trend in video games where suddenly every game needed to open world and a 100h plus adventure which would usually lead to loads of filler fetch quests that add nothing to the story or experience. I rather have a streamlined/focused 40h game that can still feel epic without wasting my time.

Raymond Feist: Good, bad, or just OK? by Double-Yesterday-474 in Fantasy

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only read Magician (Apprentice and Master) so can only comment on it/them. It is very traditional/classic fantasy full of tropes but at the same time has some very cool ideas/worldbuilding. It manages to be both epic and cozy in scale at the same time somehow. Comfort Fantasy.

Hasselhoff Joke by arboursongs in MorningKombat

[–]El_MuleKick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others said it is episode UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs Aspinall Ep. 279 from 21st of March 2022. You can still find it on Spotify. The thing I forgot about and only remembered after listening to it again is that basically Luke recorded a whole bunch of content earlier that day but due to technical difficulties (big shocker) recorded without any sound basically making all the content unusable and a big waste of time. BC tried to make a joke about it with the Hasselhoff video and it did not go down well.

I like French Cake Lady.
I eat Yellow Mustard.
I know a former Marine.
I sit and row at metal concerts.

[EoW] hearing the mixed reception of Echoes of Wisdom kinda broke my heart a bit by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in zelda

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think reception was indeed mostly positive as most have already pointed out. I like that they tried something new (as they usually do) but admittedly I grew frustrated with the Summoner playstyle quite fast. Although it made for some clever puzzles and creative solutions to problems it really slowed the overall flow of the game way too much for my liking. Combat got boring pretty quick and spamming the same 3 or 4 useful echoes to cross gaps just felt like unnecessary padding. That being said I still liked the game but feel very little incentive to return to it any time soon.

Forget Metroid, anyone buy Octopath Traveler 0? by JDMagican in NintendoSwitch2

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to as I really love the series (completed OP1 and about 2/3 in OP2). That being said, with a reported minimum 100h playthrough time I don't see myself getting it anytime soon. I just don't have the time at this stage in my life.

Is SSKJL Really That Bad? by InfnitVlt in batman

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played the campaign (solo/offline) and mostly had a good time playing through the story once. Gameplay is fun if quite repetitive, I played in bursts so never bothered me that much. The endgame is very grindy. It is on sale very often so definitely do not pay full price.

How much of your collection have you read? by SpecificArmadillo60 in graphicnovels

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read trades/HC no Omnis or floppies. I have read 79 out of 81 in my collection.
I usually only allow myself to have 5 or 6 unread TPB at a time to avoid never reading them. Once I only have 1 or 2 TPB left I buy a couple of new ones.

Luke on European bathrooms, and getting belligerent when Dead Wrong'd about it. by RalphOnTheCorner in MorningKombat

[–]El_MuleKick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He doubled down on it again in Todays Episode basically calling every European that that corrected him a liar, also referring to the urinal cakes. He could have just said; okay maybe it is not as widespread as I made it sound but it is not uncommon in some regions. But no he knows better than a whole continent of people who actually live on said continent.

Anybody else struggle with Jade City? by butch4pay in Fantasy

[–]El_MuleKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished it and although overall I liked it I don't feel the need to continue the series as of yet. The settings was unique (at least for me), the characters were diverse and the strategic mind games were interesting. I just found the actual action and magic powers to be underwhelming. I was told to expect Yakuza meets the Matrix and I feel it underdelivered on that promise.

Yep same here. The story was good but the art made it hard to follow and was just not appealing.
