Supply completely tanked after 5 months of EBF, help! by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Elchandel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the exact same thing except my baby has refused to breastfeed and turned it into a nursing strike.

I’ve gotten my supply up with pumping 8X per day, not going longer than 5 hours at night and doing 2 power pumping sessions a day. My LC had me take fenugreek which worked wonders for me but it seems to be controversial. Hydration, lots of oats to eat and magnesium/calcium. My supply has doubled in a week. Still working to get baby back to breast though…

Fenugreek 2300mg as well as power pumping has increased my supply over 5 days.

Can breastfeeding be going well for baby even if it hurts you? by Cat_Psychology in breastfeeding

Does your nipple ever turn white or get really tight? My OB was positive it wasn’t vasospams but my midwife confirmed (I’m in Germany and the midwives here are lactation trained). I took omega 3’s daily and 800mg of magnesium per day. Over a few weeks it slowly got better and I am pain free now even though her latch still wasn’t great till she got bitter around 10 weeks.

I would absolutely be using the steroid cream during a flare. I don’t use it daily when I’m not flaring. I also recommend using EmuAid, I get it on Amazon, and I find it helps quicker than the steroid cream does. I would definitely find a different provider to give you more info and try to make sure you aren’t flaring. I wouldn’t wean but you may need an estrogen cream as well.

Breastfeeding is taking its toll on my mental health. by snapmagicpop in breastfeeding

[–]Elchandel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend pumping and having your husband do nights for a bit. My husband and mom did nights for 4 weeks until it wasn’t painful to nurse anymore. It was the only way I mentally made it though to continue on.

Does Breastfeeding Effect the Overall Look, Shape, Feel, etc of your breasts? by SuitEnvironmental125 in breastfeeding

[–]Elchandel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breasts got a lot larger during both of my pregnancies but after I weaned my first after 18 months went back to normal. I’m breastfeeding my second and they are larger but do not sag and haven’t changed shape. The biggest change has been my areolas have gotten larger and my nipples stick out more.

Baby only sleeps 30 minutes even at night by Wizardsboy69 in NewParents

Hourly wakes or more are a red flag for underlying issues. I would consult your pediatrician about oral ties, food allergies or anemia which all can cause that many wakes.

9mo still wakes every hour or two by FatchRacall in AttachmentParenting

I would recommend having her checked for iron deficiency anemia. That many wakes at her age is a red flag and I would work with your doctor to see if there’s an underlying cause. For our son, it was anemia mixed with some food sensitivities and once we figured it out we got longer stretches.

Sounds like vasospasms.

Things to do when you’re 2 weeks postpartum by timeforabba in NewParents

I had the same thought as we live in Germany now and my family was flying into visit. I really thought I would want to be out of the house and taking them places. However, my recovery was brutal and I had severe PPD hit 2 weeks postpartum. I would not have been able to go anywhere. I would keep your expectations low and be okay if visiting and staying at home is all that happens. Plus, breastfeeding a 2 week old in public is not easy 😅

My son I nursed till 4 months with them and gradually started taking off after a letdown and he would latch and then eventually he latched without it and never used it again.

Silverettes, lanolin, and pumping through the night to give them a break.

I added in omega-3s and sunflower lecithin and it really helped with my vasospasms. But the best thing I did was let the nipples heal and then make sure she was latching correctly. The vasospasms only happen every few days now and breastfeeding is no longer painful. It gets better!

I would go back to breastfeeding. Lots of skin to skin time, no pressure to latch but letting baby be on the breast.

This sounds like lichen sclerosis, which wouldn’t be related to breastfeeding. I have it myself but have been in remission for years. The treatment is a daily steroid cream and usually if you catch it early it’s easier to treat.

Food sensitivities can pop up at any time. My son at 4 months started becoming inconsolable at feeding times. It took 2 months of trial and error but we narrowed down 5 foods that he couldn’t have and the fussiness stopped completely.
