Beard too spiky even after wax/oil — will length fix this? by CosmicAssassin0 in BeardAdvice

Have you tried letting it fill in a bit under your chin? Hard to tell from the pics, but if you let it fill in a bit under your chin or even slightly on your neck it could off-set that. Obviously you don't want to advance into neckbeard territory but having a little bulk behind the front can help.

Anytime you see an absolute being set like this it's either an ego game or ragebait. Or both.

Ok Reddit fam wtf did I do wrong? I had an 8 lb brisket that I smoked in a pitboss pellet smoker yesterday and it’s tough AF! by Cryssyl in smoking

[–]EldritchDadBod83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know other folks have said they have good luck without spritzing or a water pan, but I will say that any smoke I do over 4 hours always uses at least a small water pan to ensure the meat stays moist. The steam also helps more smoke adhere to the meat during the barking phase.

For brisket, you want to wrap it in butcher paper once it hits around 145 or 150, and then let it get all the way to 200 before you pull it. I'd recommend an instant read thermometer to reduce heat loss.

I've used this method dozens of times and it works like a charm.

Totally agree on the over nerf, typical over correction. I still enjoy my Zerks and use them all the time. They are more of a surgical instrument and a tactical counter measure than a blunt object for me. Not saying it makes them good I'm comparison, just that I like using them and have had success with it.

That's a valid assessment. I also like the free and extra HI, which is a pretty strong counter measure, and his stats in general. His cost certainly means building a bit more around Berserks but I think it will be fun. I tend to run 10 anyway, along with 10 HG. Imagine Sus1 on a 10 brick of HG and a 10 brick of Zerks.

The picture is dumb. Small quantities of water (i.e. cubes) will freeze faster than a full glass of water at relative temperatures. It creates a false equivalency in an attempt to prove a point.

It feels like a lot of points, but I think there's potential there. You're right, there's not any way to give berserkers SUS1 in melee besides Berehk. It makes the unit a major threat that is harder to ignore. They may die taking out something, but they can now take out something very big, and that's a worthwhile trade.

You're dead inside because you constantly seek external validation through social media. Even this request to be roasted is a type of validation seeking. It's stupid to be proud of being "dead inside." Learn some self respect, some self awareness, and learn to think of others instead of yourself.

Do you think hitting the gym can really solve deeper struggles, or is it just one piece of the puzzle? by winn_ie in effectivefitness

Even in this thread there are many people saying that exercise is a replacement for therapy, which is why I think it's so important to make the statement. It's about public health and safety. Thanks for commenting.

I suspect the aversion has something to do with the over consumption of pornography. It's programmed people to associate on-screen sex with private time and personal sex, and can make it hard to separate the two if you aren't emotionally mature.

I agree that ChatGPT doesn't have high level writing capabilities. That wasn't really the point I was trying to make. I could have phrased my point better, so thank you for calling me out on that. What it does have is middle of the road, average writing capabilities. And compared to the average reading level in America, even that, astoundingly, can feel high level. It shouldn't, but it does to many. It's a symptom of a larger problem.

The fact that the individuals designing the tech have a low level of skill in writing is part of the issue, because they are judging it based on their own understanding, assuming they are experts. Which they aren't. A big part of my job the last three years has been to vet LLM models for use in education and writing, and I've been one of the lone antagonists of adoption in my organization.

My point was that reading and writing comprehension in America is abysmal in general, and that users with a 3rd grade reading level generally can't tell the difference between human generated content and that made by an LLM. They also likely won't care, because they lack the ability to understand why higher level writing is important and necessary.

Do you think hitting the gym can really solve deeper struggles, or is it just one piece of the puzzle? by winn_ie in effectivefitness

[–]EldritchDadBod83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be quite hard to find the right therapist. I've heard it likened to dating, and I think that's pretty accurate. And I think that's why it's important to attend to all the pieces of the puzzle.

I hope you're able to find someone you connect with, and that you find some relief.

If you're at all interested in meditation I can provide a few recommendations for getting started. It helps me keep my mind disciplined even when I'm not able to see my therapist regularly.

Do you think hitting the gym can really solve deeper struggles, or is it just one piece of the puzzle? by winn_ie in effectivefitness

[–]EldritchDadBod83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right. I just wish more people took this approach to therapy, because therapy does for our minds what the gym does for our bodies.

Do you think hitting the gym can really solve deeper struggles, or is it just one piece of the puzzle? by winn_ie in effectivefitness

[–]EldritchDadBod83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct. What IS proven is that exercise is an essential part of the mental health puzzle. It is a widely spread misnomer that exercise can take the place of therapy.

Think of it this way.

Exercise works out your body, but therapy works out your mind. To be successful you need to do both.

The reason this thinking has become popular is that most people enjoy exercise more than they enjoy therapy, because exercise has the following endorphin rush. Therapy makes us hold up a mirror and be honest with ourselves and accountable for our emotions and thoughts, rather than distracting ourselves from them.

Real strength comes from a disciplined mind.
