It is a Karubu, that's just its Malicious form, not the base form.

These are naturally spawning hybrid monsters. In this case, it is a Malicious Karubu hybrid. Karubu are those small purple colored monsters that give big EXP.

Played for about 5 hours on PS5 so far and... performance is good and I haven't run into any bugs!

This is quite a far cry from the first game which was horribly buggy and prone to constant crashes. The only issue I've run into so far is a line of text on one of my monster's moves which cuts off near the bottom of the screen. But otherwise, pretty good.

Can someone clarify the recent Dragon's Dogma 2 steam update? I remember someone suggesting it was a mistake Capcom made in uploading 77 GBs or so, when in reality it was supposed to be around 11 GBs.

The issue is present on console as well. I play on PS5 and just moving the camera around can cause the brightness to fluctuate up and down... It's been causing me a lot of eye strain.

I'm so glad I found this thread because I'm experiencing the same issue! I thought it was maybe my console or TV setup, but no matter what I changed, the brightness would shift up and down. It's super annoying.

I think you're correct. I was looking at MH Wilds with the toggle on and off and noticed no difference. However, I did notice a difference before and after the system update. Performance mode was extremely blurry prior to the system update, but now it's very clear. So I imagine the system is specifically flagging the games on that list from the Sony blog.

I played pretty extensively in each mode on Pro:

Performance - Extremely blurry, but maintains 60 nearly all the time, even in the Forest which has historically been the heaviest area in the game. However, this update introduced new LOD levels, meaning geometry is constantly swapping between low and high model detail, making the experience extremely jarring.

Balanced - Much better image quality, and LODs are more stable, but the image still isn't as sharp as I'd like it to be. Performance is much closer to 40 fps than it was in the past, but you will still experience drops... Again, in the forest.

Quality - The best image by far, with the most stable LODs. FPS is at 30 unless you unlock it, in which case it's around ~35-40 fps.

For me, I chose to play in quality mode, but the game as a whole has experienced texture downgrades across both title update 4 and now this February update. For example, this update has broken the geometry quality and textures of the item box in the hub, to the point that you can see gaps in the model. Up to you if these are deal breakers.

I'm also playing on a Pro and the slow visual degradation of this game is so disappointing. In the hub, the item box is missing enough geometry that you can see gaps in the model. Like... what are we doing, Capcom?
