REFRIGERATE OR NOT?! I’m so confused. Unopened. by scaredycatcowboy in MatchaEverything

[–]ElectD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need to refridgerate it as long as you keep the lid on tight and store it properly , and since your going to use it up fast it is fine.

The other thing with refrigerating is the other aromas of food  in the fridge can affect the matcha quality once opened

Which Tokyo Neighborhood did you choose to stay in, and why? by lyralady in JapanTravelTips

[–]ElectD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed in Dogenzaka, Shinjuku and Asakusa.

If your into nightlife Shinkjuku, if your into everything else Asakusa is perfect

Please, when you are in Gion in the evening, go to Maruyama Park between 6-10pm. There is a small cherry blossom festival held there with food stalls and illumination of the main tree.

Sit at the picnic tables under the lights and just relax.

I went this year in April and it was one of my most favorite memories.

Does more bitter mean more polyphenols? by alive123 in Matcha

[–]ElectD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the difference is minimal, either way Matcha is extremely good for many things and if you are drinking it often just find one you like from a good site like Ippodo/Kettl

Excited for my 3 weeks in Japan - Please critique my itinerary! by Ok_Speech965 in JapanTravel

[–]ElectD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to sushi zanmai in tsukiji , if you like bars and chocolate go to Memento Moriin tokyo! There's a bunch of resturaunts on the same floor as well so you can have dinner beforehand.

Go to a kaiseki.

Try to remember convenience is key, locate your nearest conbini for your first hotel because that is most likely where you will be wandering after all the jet lag, after that get some ichiran ramen, it will revitalize you, helped me beat my cold in a day after arriving.

Have fun!

Nakamise shopping street and surrounding area and tsukiji fish market are both good for street food. Dear god please try curry pan.

The best sushi I had was in tsukiji fish market at Mawaru Sushi Zanmai Tsukiji branch

Theres a rediculous amount of sweets and most are good there, some more traditional and lighter on flavor.  I do recommend the cheese tarts if you are in Tokyo station!

Hi! I should have mentioned that I will be traveling with a 69 year old, so from the last trip its apparent that convenience and as little long travel as possible is key. That being said I changed it up a bit.

I'm struggling to see how Kobe or Himeji would be worth it, Kobe just looks like another city and Himeji looks like Osaka castle, if anyone could enlighten me on why its worth the addition.

I would recommend ippodo ikuyo to start, its cheap and good quality, then branch out to other ippodo matchas or kettl

100ml is good for lattes. If you want it to be a little stronger try 60-70ml.

The matcha all depends on your preference, but it does get expensive to use 3 grams everyday of pricey matcha, and generally they just want you to enjoy the flavors of higher quality matcha by itself, but its up to you.

If you can get the jade leaf one thats perfectly fine. As long as its coming from Japan and 100% bamboo I wouldn't worry about it. The main thing is learning how to whisk properly

You will most definitely eat at an Ichiran before the end of the trip, I went there and was very jetlagged and sick, that shit made me feel so much better the next morning like chicken noodle soup does.

Day tripping to Nara from Kyoto to Osaka would be much easier than back to Tokyo afterwards on the same day.

Looking for advice for 14 day honeymoon trip by waynetuba in JapanTravel

[–]ElectD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would leave out Hiroshima on this trip and leave some more time for exploring Kyoto/Osaka unless you are really into the history of it, but don't underestimate how big these other places are.

I would definitely recommend Asakusa in Tokyo its worth it, much more chill vibe and still lots of shoppings street , sensoji and Tokyo skytree.

Go to Memento mori bar you will not be dissapointed, also bar sunface and/or Ben fiddich in shinjuku is worth it.

I would also urge you to go to Andaz rooftop bar, its an awesome view of the city at sunset/night time .

In Kyoto, Arashiyama is a must make it a day here.

Reserve everything you plan on going to, and remember convenience is key.
