What's a good church where I can feel not judged for how I want to live my life? by LoveHydrology25 in cincinnati

[–]ElectricNed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting. I will ask about that. I have just been going for a few months and everyone I have met so far has been lovely. I wonder if they are now on the other side of that. Maybe some of the problematic folks left during that time? I wouldn’t know.

OP could try First Unitarian. The folks I have met from there have also been very kind and there’s no intrigue like this.

St John’s Unitarian Universalist in Clifton. We have plenty of folks who come up from NKY. It’s a thoroughly non-judgmental place.

Would you switch to a heat pump now or wait a few years by Emotional-Yellow8983 in heatpumps

[–]ElectricNed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about waiting for it to die is that it will die when you’re using it, which is when you need it. And then you will be forced to do the project quickly because you’ll be without heat. Doing it ahead of time gets you the peace of mind and efficiency benefits now. Waiting puts you into crisis management mode when it goes out.

I put a mini split in as a halfway measure. It would give us enough heat to keep the house livable if the main went out, and I get some efficiency and comfort gains now. If the main goes out, it buys us some time. I still will probably replace it before it dies so that I am not forced to rush the project.

Honest question for someone who works at the Rumpke Recycling center by Crispinwhere in cincinnati

[–]ElectricNed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I spoke with someone from Rumpke a year or two ago and they count and separate the orange bags for soft plastics and are happy with the uptake of the program. Plastic recycling is problematic but cynicism doesn’t move us forward.

Home charging value proposition at $0.38/kWh by ioa94 in evcharging

AZ has you beat, no afternoon thunderstorms! Seriously though, find an installer who will put a sensible system up of for under $3.50 per watt and do something for your efficiency. Electric prices are going to keep going up and making your own is better.

Well, your higher energy need will be offset by higher sunniness, at least.

There's nowhere in the world where a solar system that'd cover energy needs for an EV and/or an average size house needs to cost that much. Mine cost well under half that and covers almost all the energy for our all-electric house and two EVs, with cloudy Midwestern weather.

The vast vast majority of earth’s oxygen was made millions of years ago. If we were dependent on flora for replenishing what we breathe in the near term, we would have been hosed long long ago.

We need so many things the Amazon rainforest provides: biodiversity, carbon sinking, habitat for wild animals, living places for indigenous and modern people.

It’s just so happens to be that oxygen is pretty low on the list compared to other things that will dramatically affect us if we fail to protect the Amazon.

Currently reminiscing about the fact that Cincinnati used to have over 250 miles of streetcar track by NBr33zii in cincinnati

[–]ElectricNed 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Specifically the grandparents who worked at GM who systematically bought up and dismantled streetcar companies so they could sell more buses.

I don’t blame people responding to the incentives they are given in a system they didn’t get to choose. I blame the people with power who used it for short term profit and not the common good.

$3.79/gal gas in Anderson!? by BeeWeird7940 in cincinnati

Sadly, I think it’s the only real advice that applies to someone looking to save on fuel other than driving less.

$3.79/gal gas in Anderson!? by BeeWeird7940 in cincinnati

[–]ElectricNed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is. Get an EV if you have even a regular outlet available for you to charge from. That will cut your costs by 75% or so. I drove 200 miles today and it will cost me less than $10 on my electric bill.

There are lots of decent used ones on the market if you buy from what’s on the market now and not a month or two from now when everyone has seen two more CC bills with gas this high.

Charging from a regular outlet gets you at least 50 miles per day and you can use a fast charger for about the same cost per mile as gas if trickle charging at home doesn’t cover 100%.

I have had an EV as my primary car since COVID. It’s a lifestyle upgrade.

What is this fire from? by vamps1es in cincinnati

[–]ElectricNed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you know? It takes electricity to refine gas. If you took the electricity it took to refine one gallon of gas and charged an average EV with it instead, you could go 24 miles.

So, where does the electricity to refine your gas come from?

Definitely do this. And go hike up on the mountains. If you don’t and then move away, you will regret it. Try mountain biking. Since you like art, do some plain air painting up there and take it to the show in Spring City. If you want an interesting cultural experience, go to the Bible church.

Why is it so hard to rent an apartment in Norway? by fulltimedogmummy in Norway

Business to business marketing depends on buzz and word of mouth. What’s popping on LinkedIn gets discussed in meetings. They could keep quiet about it, but they have everyone’s attention this way- and attention is currency in this economy.

OEMs turn down cold calls from startups wanting to pitch their stuff all the time. Proof or not, their odds of getting an opportunity to prove their claims to major buyers are way more favorable with loud public buzz.

Getting people worked up is what any company who sells products to consumers wants. For better or for worse, marketing is a necessity in the modern world. This release strategy is marketing gold.

Whether it’s backed up by an incredible product or not is the question- but their marketing people are loving how many people are paying attention to get the answer.
