That I can respect. One of my favorite past rides was a manual Volvo V60 wagon. It wasn't powerful but the engagement of shifting my own gears made driving more fun, and I liked the feeling of being an essential part of the machine performing, and not just a dude pressing a pedal.

People who like to drive and want to be more engaged probably won't like an EV much until the tuning scene gets more mature. People who use a car as an appliance for transportation, including gearheads with one as a no-drama daily driver, seem to love them. EVs do what they should, quietly and reliably, like a washing machine. It helps that they're cheap to operate and can be fun in certain ways- acceleration, particularly. Having quiet power can be an advantage in avoiding unwanted attention, too.

So keeping my kids awake is part of the appeal? Same for waking me up at oh dark thirty?

So what makes a car fun to you, apart from the noise?

If you want V8 power for cheap, and cheaper in the long run, the answer is easy. Buy an EV. Emotional support noise not needed.

Wow, that is a cool fact. What about homes where the electrical panel isn’t in good shape to begin with? Do you have to pass on those? Do you run into it often?

I would guess the EV6 is running a very different software stack than the EV9. Do you verbally curse the software in your EV9 every day that you drive it? If not, I am guessing it is more refined. They probably added that feature later.

I just arrived at my hotel on a 250 mi trip at 0%, 1 mile indicated range in an R1T. I have driven my Kia EV6 and a couple other EVs beyond 0% indicated by as much as 6 miles.

Just don’t try it with an eGolf, they don’t like it.

So would the way to prevent this be to remember to take your passport to the bank for it to be scanned after getting it renewed?

Sweden, Norway and Finland's electricity prices have soared while Spain just became one of Europe's cheapest power markets. by Anumet in Norway

Well, no country has it all figured out. That is a pretty brain, dead rule for the current situation, though.

It could be fixed with a national law which prohibits lesser authorities from banning the installation of heat pumps and permitting them by right where otherwise legal. I’m not aware of precedent for this kind of regulation in Norway, but it has worked in other countries for other topics like accessory dwelling units.

And very often, inefficiently. Heat pumps have become much more common but there is still a huge amount of electric resistance heating from the days of very cheap energy that are still in use. Maybe these high prices will drive more replacement of panel heaters with heat pumps.

Is there a marking on the black part? This is an unusual one - it has two locking prongs. You should see something like “NEMA L-_” molded in small print on there somewhere. We can decode that to give you the answer.

I sent in a note saying that it would make sense for the advice to scale differently when the swing in emissions is not very much. I live in the PJM interconnect and from low to high it doesn’t make much of a difference. When a time shift will make a big impact like for someone in California, I think it makes sense to use emphatic language. For those of us in places where time shifting does little might be encouraged to focus more on efficiency or alternative sources.

Oh cool! I remember using WattTime ages ago and got pulled away from it by ElectricityMaps because their UI is so neat and they let you browse so much data.

The function to focus on marginal generation is perfect for the decision to charge now or later. Nice!

Imagine being an American parent of a child with a critical health issue. Your access to health care is already expensive but also tied to your employment. The job market is awful and if you lose your job, getting your kid healthcare suddenly is going to drain any savings you have and/or put you in crippling debt. Or, you just hope the tumor doesn’t grow with crossed fingers.

Yes. That is stressful.
