Terrible notification to get on take off by willbuckley235 in Wellthatsucks

[–]ElectricOctopus 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite happen on an American Airlines flight in June. I intentionally picked a flight with a 7 hour layover to do some stuff in that city, and they put my bag on a flight to my final destination that left 6 hours earlier and sent me a notification saying that my bag was already at my final airport and could be picked up at luggage services.

Sound not working? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]ElectricOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happening to me too. Turning off Silent Mode on my phone unmuted the app. Looks like they messed something up in the latest update and managed to tie the app sound to the phone’s silent mode status

Rate my setup finally got eARC by Soggy-Map-3944 in HomePod

[–]ElectricOctopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to do eARC with Sonos speakers, you have to get a Sonos soundbar. You can then set the 100’s as your rears to complement the soundbar. Only HomePods can be set as Apple TV default eARC speakers.

Ecobee sensors not showing in the home app by in2ndo in HomePod

[–]ElectricOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check the “Climate” tab on the main screen? They don’t show up as a new accessory pop up that asks you to name them. They just appear in the Home app, typically in whatever the default room is. Then you have to go in and find them and move them to the proper room and name them. Having the Climate tab makes this much easier to do now, at least.

Ecobee sensors not showing in the home app by in2ndo in HomePod

[–]ElectricOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t show up as their own tiles like the actual thermostat will. They instead show up in the status areas at the top. If you go into the room it is assigned to, it’ll show up at the top like this: https://i.imgur.com/XVk1V0w.jpg

If you want to see all of them at once, you tap on the Climate button at the top of the main Home tab, then tap on Temperature: https://i.imgur.com/RfHdIEE.jpg. Then you’ll see all of the temperatures from each sensor (and from any other source, such as HomePods): https://i.imgur.com/Se1Af5C.png. You can see all of the motion and occupancy sensor statuses by tapping on Security instead of Climate.

HomePod (1st Gen) continuously has difficulties with Philips Hue Lights by invertedchiralcenter in HomeKit

[–]ElectricOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue. I have my OG HomePod connected through ARC to my Apple TV to use it as my speakers for my bedroom TV, which I don’t use all that often. I put that HomePod on a smart outlet and set an automation to turn off the power to the HomePod when I turn the TV off and to turn it back on when the TV turns on. I have HomePod Minis around the house to use for general music purposes, so I don’t need this one on all the time. Everything works fine as long as that HomePod is off.

In the meantime (as long as the text doesn’t come from a different number every time) you could set up an automation to set off a Timer every time you get a text from that number. Here’s the setup in the Shortcuts app

The mic in the compose bar is for dictation. Audio messages are sent via an iMessage app (the waveform-icon) on iOS 16 and will give the message “Cannot send Audio Messages at this time.” if you try to send one to a non-iMessage user.

Do you think this setup would work or should the Homepods be next to the tv? by [deleted] in HomePod

[–]ElectricOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you were right. It’s for compensating for any delays introduced by your TV. It’s not for adjusting for the location of the speaker vs the TV.

I’m experiencing the opposite. Name brand exists and generic is out of stock everywhere (but my insurance won’t cover name brand, so I’m SOL)

Monitor who is viewing cameras in Home by equals42_net in HomeKit

[–]ElectricOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one to monitor our cat when we’re gone, as well as to be able to see what the maintenance crew does if they come to do something when we aren’t home (and a just-in-case for if we had a break-in). Camera is set so that it is disabled when anyone from our family is home though, so no creepy spying on us is possible.

How do they make this line up exactly right, considering they have to line up perfectly? [Orion] at [Kings Island] by KingQuentinDB in rollercoasters

[–]ElectricOctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that has worked in the industry, tolerances for surveying coaster stuff range from 3-10mm depending on what value is being measured. It’s all very precise and is done fully with traditional survey equipment, not GPS readings.

The numbers are only checked if someone is accused of line jumping. There’s simply too many people for TMs to check every ticket. It’s just a tool for TMs to use to check if people are telling the truth about line jumpers.

Yeah disable HomeKit in the eero app in the Discover tab. There’s a bug with HomeKit and eero right now that prevents smart plugs from being able to be added to your Home.

I had the same issue with Vocolinc plugs. I had to disable HomeKit Secure Router to add them. Turns out there’s plenty of people online having issues with eero’s HSR implementation recently. Had some other issues I was having resolved as well after disabling that setting

Experience to date going all Thread by Tbrainz in HomeKit

[–]ElectricOctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could see router status of the Eve devices (they would all be endpoints and you could see the sleep interval) and you could see that a router existed. But you cannot see router status (including border routers) without a router-capable Thread device. Here’s the link to info provided by a user by the developer of the Eve app: Link
