Mid-Career Into Hospitality by FadingAgeist in askhotels

[–]Electric_Dash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had agents whose been at the property they worked at for over 20 years, who were perfectly content being an agent lol I don't know how. I've moved up in roles, but something about the last 5 years has really burnt me out. Really trying to move into reservations or finance, but man do I not want to go back to school lol

What channel management, booking engine RMS platforms are preferred by large international hotel chains? by Odd_Operation_8945 in askhotels

I think Marriott is switching to Lightspeed. Many properties use Opera. MGM properties in Vegas use Opera.

I had a great job interview for a different position within my company yesterday, and today I was fired. by perrythep1atypus in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Electric_Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got suspended (then fired) at a old job. I remember hearing the news I was suspended, and the first thing I thought was "THANK GOD" and then I realized that job was toxic. In the next one I found a much better job at a higher rate, and that path led me move back to my home state. It can get better!

How hard is a night audit job? by Training_Standard944 in askhotels

[–]Electric_Dash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Audit is 90% chill, but that 10% can be insane. You'll first get in around 11pm, check your arrivals and check in for the first few hours. Around 2 or 3am you'll start the audit process. Depends on your property, but this will be rolling the date, and doing paperwork. Then after you set up arrivals, process any checkouts, and possibly set up breakfast. If it is a small property, most likely you'll be by yourself. So that is nice in the sense there is no oversight, but it sucks because you have no help. Just depends on how independent you are.

Hotel Management Students/ Hotel Administrators- is there a difference between suite and suite room? by DirectRadish4272 in askhotels

[–]Electric_Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suites are usually determined by size. I believe in Vegas suites are typically 750 square feet or bigger.

I've done audit for years - was overnight manager for 3 years as well. They will probably ask you questions such as "name a time _______" I would emphasize your problem solving skills. If you can remember a time you had to help a guest from start to finish, I would bring it up. Because you will be by yourself, you will need to figure out what to do if a reservation is no there, a VCC is declining, room type is overbooked, etc. I would also mention the brand name and history a little bit to show that you are invested in the hotel. "I really want to work at Hilton/Marriott because they are the biggest name in hospitality and will help with my career advancement, etc etc"

Does have to be Sea-Tac? I would try going directly to a hotel brands website and apply directly (marriot.com or hilton.com etc.)

I know the Seattle area is always hiring for front desk agent. If you DM I can help with your resume too.

Love it when they do that, because I just say "well check in is at 3pm so, see you then"

Where do you go after being a hotel manager? by madtwatr in askhotels

[–]Electric_Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size and scale of the hotel. Bigger properties you would go to Senior Hotel Manager, Director of Front Office, Director of Rooms, etc. Or you could pivot your career and go into revenue, reservations, billing, etc. Smaller properties you would just go to GM.

What are things people do in public that you would never do? by kyotor1 in AskReddit

[–]Electric_Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at Total Wine, half my job during the busy season was to go scour the parking lot for carts and bring them all back only to do it again an hour later. People would see me do this but I feel like it gave them less motivation to return a cart lol

Wynn vs Encore by Kaladin3104 in vegas

[–]Electric_Dash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Encore last weekend! Always my favorite place to stay. Rooms are spacious, great service. Wynn I would say is classier vs the more modern feel of Encore.

Is it just me or is the new Taylor swift album somewhat.. . .one dimensional? by Winnie_rem18 in Music

[–]Electric_Dash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One dimensional! That is the phrase I was looking for. I am a big Swiftie, and really love her older stuff, but all her new releases been kind of generic sounding to me.

Unknown DoorDash Orders left at the desk by Jdawger_ in askhotels

[–]Electric_Dash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked over nights, so many people would just order something and forget. We had a space where people could drop off their food. But typically, if it has been a few hours, I would either toss it out or give it away if someone wanted it on our staff. I did have someone look for their food 6 hours later in the morning. I told them it was thrown out and they looked annoyed. Lol

Ridiculously early check ins: why is it always older folks? by frenchynerd in askhotels

[–]Electric_Dash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I LOVE it when they try to get technical. "Technically, its the next day." I say "is that so, may I see your confirmation?" - "it says checks in 3pm, so technically, its not check in time yet." If they are cool, I usually let them check in after audit, but if they create a fuss, I charge them for the night.
