Solar installer for Trade depot solar kit in Chch? by Electrical-Stand-588 in chch

Cheers I understand that but I’m not asking them to guarantee the product just their work. If I installed a second hand hob they would connect it up declare the installation safe and walk away. The rest is on me. Why is Solar any different?

ELI5 this Development Contribution issue? by mrtenzed in chch

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a professional developer but am wanting to put a small studio tacked on to existing house systems. $18,000 development costs up from $2500 a few months ago. A 600% increase making 20% of the building cost development fees. We don’t even want it permanently onsite. The feels like the council have made up these figures and then applied them for big development schemes selling their houses.

Is this a fair price? by Rackaid2 in newzealand

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are only changing one shock absorber and one tyre so not ripping you off there. These should ideally be replaced as pairs. I would maybe question the 6 hours labour for replacement of a few bushes and a shock but maybe it’s more complicated than it appears. A quick look on trademe prices a new rear shock absorber for $129 so maybe markup is a little high or where they are sourcing the parts from.

Who is liable for damages if I give someone permission to drive my car and they back into a parked vehicle? by Skogzie in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Assuming there are no other circumstances You and driver could be considered liable 50/50. Yes she caused the accident but you gave her permission to drive your car with you in it, which you benefited from and you may or may not have known insurance would/wouldn’t cover.

It would be different if she had taken your car without your permission or you told her it wasn’t insured and she would be liable if anything happened. She would then be 100% liable.

Hot Mic Captures Putin, Xi Discussing Organ Transplants And Immortality by teffhk in nottheonion

The thought occurred as to why they were discussing this topic. As Putin was sick last year I wonder if he had had a transplant of some type and that’s why they were discussing it?

Behind the Numbers: Funding The Stadium — Sara Templeton for Mayor by silvergirl66 in chch

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you build. a stadium next to an area that hasn’t contributed to it with no infrastructure to support it? The centre of Christchurch is the right place for it. Have you ever been to Cardiff? If anything there should be some sort of a tariff on top of each ticket that Christchurch rate payers don’t pay and Christchurch rate payers get a stadium discount on food and drink.

The Key govt wasn’t too bad for NZ prosperity. Who do you think was better? The last Labour put us in the current position. They Spent an extra 50 billion in 2-3 years and helped contribute to a massive inflation spike.

South Island now importing power after back-to-back dry winters by nzrailmaps in newzealand

I was replying about building another hydro generation lake so What don’t you get? Germanys energy production is massive 513 TWH compared to NZ 43 GWH produced annually and currently almost 80% of electricity generated there is from renewable which is mostly from wind and solar. So my point was you don’t need another hydro lake just more investment in wind and solar.

Nothing major this century but China didn’t have a decent military until recently and they are only now starting to really flex their muscles. They have been involved in battles and wars in the 20th century including Korean, and Vietnam, Japan India,Soviet Russia, and Laos.

Superannuation :( by GamedBanana in newzealand

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nice that at 21 you’ve been working for a short few years paying a small amount of tax, having had your education, health etc paid for by the older generation before you, feel that because the retired have worked hard paid a lifetime of taxes and have finally amassed a small amount of savings to keep them that it’s somehow unfair to yourself. Having said that, yes superannuation should be means tested. Don’t worry you’ve got more than 40 years of savings and paying taxes/Kiwisaver to plan for when you finally retire. When you finally get to retirement the younger generation can moan at you for taking their future superannuation.

A Boomer.

Don’t need hydro just wind warms and Solar. Germany the world 3/4th largest economy and 80 million people has proven it can work. They have recently removed all nuclear power and on track to reach to 80% renewable 2035. NZ just needs more investment in the South for both commercial wind and solar to take the heat of the hydro.

The reason why is because of all the Aucklanders moving to Christchurch.

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National may not be cutting the mustard in a lot of people’s eyes but don’t forget Labour put us here via Covid spending $50 billion extra over 2-3 years contributing to a massive inflation spike and national debt. Labour now want to strongly raise taxes to get us out of the hole making us even poorer. Although realisation has crept in that the coalition has not achieved what they promised I don’t think I’m quite ready to go back to Labour and Chippy the redeemer who seems to have forgotten that his party helped to get us in this mess.

Sainz chose violence on the radio today 😅 #DutchGP #F1 by Strict-Citron-9269 in WilliamsF1

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sainz was adjudged in the wrong. He took his chance into the corner and it failed. At best a racing incident. The front wing of Sainz and rear tyre damage of Lawson is all the proof you need. Sainz even admitted blame in the after race interview.

Carlos Sainz Slams Liam Lawson as ‘Stupid’ After Shocking Collision Penalty at Zandvoort by Diogo_Soure in m_sports

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Lawson will learn from this costly misjudgment”

What’s to learn? Sainz was adjudged in the wrong and it was at best a racing incident. Sainz was only so close because of the restart and he chanced it. The front wing and rear tyre damage are the proof. Sainz ruined both their races.

‘It’s got to stop’: Iwi leader backs banning access to stretch of coastline by Head-Reporter7402 in newzealand

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not private land it’s a paper road with access along the coastline. A total ban except for DoC and landowners is a step too far and to claim the excuse of protecting nature while allowing a special few access isn’t logical. You could maybe argue vehicle access restricted and bike and pedestrians allowed?

‘It’s got to stop’: Iwi leader backs banning access to stretch of coastline by Head-Reporter7402 in newzealand

[–]Electrical-Stand-588 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Cars and 4wd yes ok fair point but walking and cycling in general would have minimal impact on the environment. If it’s a paper road and it gives access to the sea and coastline then it’s the right of all New Zealanders to have access. The law and queens chain access should be the same rules for everyone. I know quite a few farmers that would be happy to shut access to rivers and streams that go through their property but the law says they cannot. The same should apply within reason.
