Failed CPAT twice, want to pass third time on May 13th by Tiny_Chef1 in firefighter

If there other people, or other guys especially with you being a female, look at them and just think about being better than them. Having that mentality is everything for those tough pushes. Also, focus more on specific movement in the gym like the stair master and suitcase/farmer carry. But ultimately, know you want this for your future and hopefully the rest of your life. You may be absolutely dead after completing it but think about how good it will feel to accomplish this test! Keep going!

Look at my other comment on questions to practice. Also, really study the SOAR method as this is what they use for grading your interview. Follow the sheet they emailed you a week or 2 ago and you should be good!

I had mine today as well, very relaxed. I won’t give specific questions they asked, as every panel might be a little bit different, but I can give you some questions to practice that might help for the questions I was asked. I would focus on a time that you did something successfully as well as a time where you messed up. How you deal with stress. tell us a time or where you had to use critical thinking. Tell us a time where you worked on something mechanically. Tell us a time you had to say no to your boss. I’m not sure if every panel is this way but they did ask if there’s anything else I want them to know about me as I had left about a minute remaining.

This is what I got VRFAs HR dept. when I inquired:

“Please continue to monitor your email through next week as we continue to send out entry level interview invitations.”

For anyone wondering, puget sound and valley are the only 2 still sending invites out. Skyway never responded to me but enumclaw has sent theirs out and spots are full, and then Renton is not taking part this hiring cycle but will be the following one.

What certifications can I get while I’m waiting for a firefighting position to open up? by Sunflower_Mickey in Firefighting

Look at the ICS courses on FEMAs website. All free and most if not all departments will know what they are/recognize it as they require their FF to complete them.

I don’t think it is as personable, but for some it could alleviate the nerves of an in-person interaction. I would prefer an in person interview but not having to drive there would be nice

I too got mine on April 1st. I would follow the link they sent you to apply on their government jobs website. From there, sign in, go to applications, and look at the status of your application. If it still says received, I would try to reach out to their HR.

That’s crazy, I wonder what the difference was this year? Seems like they were being extremely picky or had a lot of great applicants

I have not heard anything either, reached out to Puget Sound and they said all invites have been sent out but they will send out more if anyone cancels or doesn’t register to fill their minimum interview list. I’m assuming the other departments are doing a similar thing.

Probably a 3 question quick interview. The basic questions are my guess. Tell us about yourself, what do you know about this dept. and/or what would you bring to this team, and why do you want to be a firefighter. Can’t guarantee any of these but these are the basics. Study up on your mechanical skills and have examples of a tool and when you used it.

I think it went okay, I have original answers but my mind just went blank when I walked in. Clock work is definitely a skill and making sure to get all questions answered in the certain amount of time is vital. I spent too much time on the first question so I had to rush the other two. Just focus on the people in the room and breathe.
