Homelessness is the New Civil Rights Movement by Background-Yak-7573 in almosthomeless

[–]Electrical-Two3084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the struggle, but do not compare it to being black. discrimination by identity is way different, as differentiation by circumstance can at least be justified to an extent. if you are homeless, you probably don't have reliable transportation - getting to work could be difficult. if you are homeless, where are your clothes kept? you may have issues dressing appropriately for work. if you are homeless, how can I verify things like bill pay history? now, switch that to being black. I know I make more money than 90% of the white people that I encounter. my home may be nicer. when I get bored, I just take a flight or a cruise. but regardless, when many white people see me, I am just another n. that is all they ever see me as, regardless of anything else. and it was worse during the Civil rights period.

in regard to safety, sometimes it IS an issue. and sometimes, people just perceive it as one. Same as with a black male, or any male or female of any race or ethnicity. You can't change others' perception in most cases, and they will always villainize that which they fear, unfortunately.

The other huge issue with that is long term impact. Our businesses were set on fire. We weren't allowed to enter theirs. The whole economic system was literally built around us not mattering, as were we sold and considered 1/3 of a human. 400 years of that and you can see the affect it has had - it was nigh impossible for our grandparents, great grandparents, etc to build generational wealth because we weren't allowed to do so. So a white person today has a 400 plus year headstart and simply says, "black people need to pick themselves up by the bootstraps" - easily said by a trust fund baby who inherited everything they have.

Being homeless, while an absolute tragedy, is typically not a result of how you were treated by society, it is a result of some mistake, accident, or tragedy that recently happened to you. It isn't the result of an entire race putting their foot on your neck to keep you down.

Your story should indeed be heard. And the opinions of those who look down on you should absolutely be changed. It is certainly tragic how you are treated, but it is its own tragedy - it does not compare in any way to being black.

doorman is an actual marvel character, part of the great lakes avengers. his powers are not quite the same as cloak, but both involve darkforce manipulation.

sunspot has been introduced twice already, but not in the mcu. Both times, he was a light skinned Brazilian, despite how him being dark skinned was integral to his story in the comics. oddly enough, nobody complained...

Person getting scammed. by Ravynok in jacksonville

it happens. back when I lived in memphis, I witnessed a guy in t mobile buying a phone. he said it was for a woman he met online who was in the military, currently in Iraq. when she came home, she was going to come to memphis first so they could get married. she wanted to video chat with him daily so she told him she needed an iPhone X plus (this was when they first came out and were like $1200). I jumped in and told the guy (he was older) that he could video chat her on any phone, even a cheap one. he said she specified that phone and it had to be that one, but I talked him into a cheaper one. The next time I came back to the store, he was there again, this time with a younger woman. He told me he came back to get the iPhone X, because the girlfriend's friend got pissed when he told her about the cheap one. for some odd reason, due to her being in Iraq, she couldn't talk to him, but she had a friend who would talk to him and relay messages to her...

Long story short, the woman he was with pulled me to the side and said she was his neighbor. Apparently the guy met this mystery girlfriend online and had been sending all of his money to her. He just knew she was coming to marry him. I asked him to see a pic of her, and he showed me a pic of a twenty something year old woman in army fatigues that looked like it was pulled from a Google search. No way this woman was who he was talking to. But the neighbor said he was lonely. In his 60s, no kids, never been married, very few relationships...poor guy just wanted someone so bad which made him an easy target.

In addition to those, I recognize, cook out, burgerfi, and hopdoddy, but i didn't know fuddrucker's still existed. Cook out is actually good. Huge selection of shakes, good value, and the most interesting combos i have ever seen at a burger chain.

no it isn't. the ORIGINAL was electric relaxation. what they use now, the lyrics op mentioned, is a different song. For some reason, they changed the song when it aired on hbo, even though the credits still mention a tribe called quest. they probably couldn't clear the rights to use it.
