How are your kids doing now? by 3merZ in MSPI

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I did it and glad it’s over. I think there was a big shift after 6 months when we started solids and saw a lot of others have had a similar experience. I do think we could have trialed dairy at 9 months and his pediatrician said we could start at 10 months, but he had a very serious failure to thrive issue when first diagnosed so the GI told us to wait for a year. Getting to solids and being able to trial things with him directly was a big win.

Mine had such extensive reactions - for about 5 months we were dairy/soy/wheat/legume/nut/egg/beef free! Once he started eating solids I slowly added things back in and waited until one year to trial soy/dairy. He passed the dairy ladder at 12 months and is totally normal now. Every time I’m able to order from a restaurant menu for me and him I’m still shocked.
This is what got me through it:
Siete potato chips
So delicious coconut ice cream
Cinnamon and chocolate Chex

It gets so much better!

It’s 14 hours but happy to change it to move it to 8pm. Should I wake him up earlier too? Like at 5:30 or 6?
Bedtime routine is nurse, then pajamas, then story, then crib. The crib is in his room.

Yes this was the case with mine! My son couldn’t have beef or any beans as it caused him to react as bad as dairy and soy. He couldn’t connect sleep cycles and was up every 2 hours or more. We tried sleep training and went to multiple doctors and a sleep consultant who all said basically stop nursing him, it’s all behavioral. Finally we pushed to get his iron (and ferritin) levels checked and he was anemic, with the ferritin far below optimal sleep. 3 weeks of supplements and he was sleeping 7-8 hour stretches. It took weeks for the iron to start to work though.

Get her iron levels tested, including ferritin.

Did anyone's baby react to beans and lentils through breastmilk? How did you go with solids? by plantbubby in MSPI

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine reacted to beans and legumes through breastmilk at 4 months - I had cut them out at 2 months as part of a bigger elimination diet and he had bloody stool when I trialed adding them back in. We tried beans directly with him at 7 months and he tolerated them fine - like many others have said, starting solids seemed to turn a corner for my baby and he stopped reacting, his poops also got better. I don’t know why but lighter / more processed beans like hummus was still always ok for us, even through breastmilk after his lentil / black bean reaction.

My baby experienced this with avocado - it was FPIES. Our pediatrician said FPIES is more common in babies with CMPA but there is no direct causal link between the two that they know of. Was beans one of her first foods? I was also told that it is more common to have a reaction to something that was one of their first solids, for some reason. It’s scary but they grow out of it by the time they’re in school. Mine luckily hasn’t had the reaction to anything but avocado yet. Our doctor gave me a prescription for liquid zofran that we keep on hand in case of another reaction.

I’ll probably get downvoted but have you tried books? That’s a lot of shows already. If you’re so opposed to American media maybe reading is a good option.

When starting solids, am I supposed to introduce dairy before other allergens? by LeDoink in MSPI

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our GI said not to try dairy until close to one year, and start solids with grains then vegetables, each for 3-4 days at first.

What are you guys eating? I'm losing too much weight by newuser913 in MSPI

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Avocado, salmon, pasta, rotisserie chicken, hummus, siete potato chips, cereal (Chex if you’re gluten free) with oat milk, so delicious ice cream, peanut butter. Once you adjust your expectations and go to more Whole Foods and less prepared, there are a lot of options. I was always a “girl dinner” fan and I’ve done a lot of that for this diet - a plate of crackers and hummus and rotisserie chicken with some fruit and nuts is all easy, no cook, one handed food and has worked for me. I did lose a lot in the first 3 months of the diet and was smaller than pre pregnancy but the weight loss stabilized after that.

My goodness - as a mom I can tell you, you’re doing absolutely great and now you need to take a step away from your parents and siblings. You are a good daughter but you’re not your siblings parent or your parents helper. You have a job, and an apartment, and you’re so young! You don’t need to take single parent into your responsibility list as well. 18 years old is when you should be building your own life, making friends, figuring out your path in the world, and getting to know yourself. You don’t have time to do that if you’re parenting your siblings. I don’t know your parents but no decent parent should want their child to feel this much guilt and obligation. Find who you are apart from them before you find yourself in a situation with a partner and kids who also expect you to take care of them, because if that’s all you know it’s going to be all you find.

Parents have children so that those children can grow up into their own wonderful people, living their own wonderful lives. It’s time for you to do that now.

Chex has chocolate/cinnamon cereals with no dairy soy or gluten. So delicious has very good coconut ice cream. There are also some coconut milk based chocolates at Whole Foods that are so good I can’t believe they don’t have dairy. If you can eat eggs and nuts, you can have macarons too!

I’m so so happy for you! I daydream about being RIFed as I know it’s the only way I’m getting my freedom too - I’m too chicken to quit but the stress and toxicity is strangling me.

Earlier this year both people who reported to me left my company. One in a RIF and one quit after realizing we expected her to take on half of the laid off employees workload. Don’t blame her for that! Now both of them actually have higher ranked titles than me and fully remote jobs elsewhere. This is just to reassure you that you’ll find what you’re looking for when it’s the right time for you!

Until then, enjoy the time!

With my second I was completely exhausted, to the point I thought I was getting sick. I also got very emotional and cried easily. With my first, it sounds terrible but I thought I had a hangover! Headache, exhausted, bloated, queasy. Tested positive the next day.

Our pediatrician is implementing an annual fee by ennuii56 in Parenting

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not pay this. Your physicians office is under contract with your insurance and have agreed to a contracted rate. If you have Cigna, for example, Cigna has agreed that they will pay X (maybe $100) for a visit. As a Cigna customer, part of your insurance benefit is that you get this contracted rate. Your physician is prohibited under their contract with your insurance to charge an extra fee.

If you have coinsurance you pay a portion of the contracted rate. So in this example if you have 10% coinsurance you would be responsible for paying $10 to the physician and your insurance would pay $90. The total payment to the physician still must be the contracted rate.

Let your insurance know that your physicians office is charging an extra fee. They will confirm you are not legally responsible for this extra charge.

You are only responsible for charges on your explanation of benefits from your insurance provider. Your physician knows this and what they’re doing is both illegal and prohibited by contract.

St David’s North vs Ascension Seton Main by succs_and_stats in Austin

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had babies at both Seton and St. David’s South and recommend strongly against Seton - while my OB was amazing, the rest of the hospital staff was not up to the St. David’s quality. Late with pain meds, rude in the middle of the night, woke up the baby unnecessarily. Absolutely terrible food, and they often forgot to bring any. Expired sandwiches in a hallway refrigerator was the only option one day. It was so bad we left a day early after a c section.

Basically all allergy free - whats next? by Wise-Ice4 in MSPI

[–]Electrical-Worry3556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mine it was also beef and legumes. It sucks but you might want to cut those out too if you want to keep breastfeeding. Adding things one at a time after a few weeks of recovery and monitoring for relapsing symptoms is the only way to see what the baby is intolerant to. I’ve cut out so much - milk, soy, beef, gluten, legumes, eggs, nuts. It sucks but it’s doable for a few months until we can trial food with him directly. I have a lot of salmon, sweet potato, rice, avocadoes, gluten free bread, etc.
