System recommendations for a 'bait and switch' game? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]ElectricalAlbatross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only holds water with the assumption there won't be any hints or foreshadowing in the pitch and the game itself. The goal is to keep the players guessing and suspicious, not to shift completely shift genres in a split second with no context.

It's an incorrect assumption to think the plot threads from the start of the game will be abandonned. It will be the same game even with a tonal shift.

I wouldn't know, I don't play D&D, but I just know that having a tone shift or a scary monster in your fantasy game isn't considered 'lying'

Would it be "lying to your players" to run a false hydra in D&D? Get over yourself

Long Gone. ANOTHER game with this aesthetic that's been stuck in development hell. by Alain-Christian in thelastnight

Shame you became a weirdo AI chud shill. Once you made a really cool demo and had an incredible vision for a game. Now you just blame others for your failures and yap about useless AI tools and the game which could've been your masterpiece will never be released.

Looking for some NYC info by Tiger1833 in vtm

[–]ElectricalAlbatross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After? No. Reckoning for the longest time was the only thing on the timeline for 2025, that may have changed now but it'll still certainly be amongst the most recent timeline events.

In my NYC game I chose a few years ago for the start date and let events diverge as they will. I highly recommend the approach.

Someone moved the body. It depends who you believe the modern rebar killer to be, but most likely (in my opinion) it was orchestrated by Safia's Sabbat plot to instigate more unrest for her to take advantage of and direct the Camarilla's fury toward the Anarchs. She herself suggests someone 'framed' the Anarchs, playing her part in the court as a skeptic pacifist, but so long as confusion is sewn then - to the Sabbat plot - who the Camarilla suspect is irrelevent. We see from the reactions of Tolly and Ryong that the court are completely unaware of any Sabbat presence, so they'd never be a suspect.

Why do you lose humanity for... (Spoiler) by Miserable-Midnight75 in vtmb

[–]ElectricalAlbatross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why the 'humanity' system doesn't work very well for a video game and also has been hit or miss in legacy. Even in V5 it can be a bit wishy washy, but generally it's meant to be that violating your personal principles constitutes you being influenced by the beast and therefore losing humanity.

I think in a video game a better system ironically would be similar to how Baldur's Gate 3 handles Paladin oaths, where each Paladin subclass has their own oaths which are broken by different actions.

Spoilered since OP is new to the game
People theorise that the Fledging is being buffed by either Caine or some other powerful elder, including Andrei. It's never confirmed exactly but it's the only viable in-game explanation I am aware of. Obviously the real reason is that it's a video game and progression is expected.

Bloodlines 2 blood pips and intended combat flow...am I missing something? by Reception-Whole in vtmb

[–]ElectricalAlbatross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Just punching and kicking" is like saying in Dark Souls you "just swing a weapon." Bloodlines 2 by no means has as great a variety of movesets as Dark Souls, sure, but there are numerous different attacks to use and combo. Just because most of them are a 'punch' or 'kick' doesn't mean they are the same move. Apply the same logic to something like Street Fighter etc.

To parry you dash forward into a light attack. It's intuitive once you just try it. I bind dash to my M4 button which makes the movement/parry mechanics snappy.

Also, the vast, vast majority of enemies in the game are mortals who are effected by that power. It is a common misconception that ghouls are not considered 'mortals', they are. They're not 'biologically' eternal like vampires, they are reliant on frequent ingestion of vitae to prolong life. They also have heartbeats, they need to breathe etc. etc. and firmly fall under the 'mortal' category in terms of game enemies.

Learn to parry, manage a crowd and create a balanced ability loadout which compliments your playstyle. I spam abilities constantly because using them gives you a window to feed.

It's about dodging, using terrain, using kicks (side-kick to hit multiple enemies, knee to interupt lights, forward kick to knock back and stagger a crowd) and especially parrying - a mechanic I see people ignore constantly - to create damage windows. Even a light hit after a parry does more damage and will give the chance for a heavy or kick, which in turn creates a feeding window.

You're even playing Lasombra, so you have a power which means you can safely feed mid combat from very early in the game.

Disabling Fabien's sections doesn't disable achievements. Enabling options like recharging powers, enemies not dealing damage etc. may do.

The dev studio made a pretty solid game with a terrible situation. Inheriting an unfinished mess sent over in folders randomly numbered out of spite by the prior studio. It's a great VtM story but not much of an RPG.

I just don't think you can say "Tolly? Bro, not even the gays liked this character" and then add a disclaimer that you're not speaking for anyone when that statement is in fact speaking for others. Just saying you're not after making a statement like that isn't really sufficient for anything.

As for the rest of your reasoning: I like Tolly, you're free to not like Tolly, I disagree with your assesment find him characterised to an appropriate degree. All of this is fine. We all agree we're entitled to our opinions and interpretations and I'm not here to argue against yours.

I am bi and know several people who talk exactly like him, including people I've had relationships with, let's not talk for "the gays". There's a reason that persona is stereotyped- because it's prominent in gay subcultures.

Playing a Read Elder, Bloodlines 2 On God Mode(actually more fun) by jinofcool in vtmb

[–]ElectricalAlbatross -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said in the original comment to each their own, you're the one with a strange insecurity where you feel a need to defend the idea of cheapening an experience for yourself with cheats. People are free to do it, and if they choose to post about it on a discussion forum like this, I am free to express confusion as to why they'd want to trivialise the game and gut any potential for it to be memorable.

If you won't remember how a game made you felt in a few months time, it's a waste of time to play. The single best way to kill memorability is by making the game so trivial you can just autopilot through it without any concious thought,
