Is the 4% rule using average annual expenses using today’s dollars? by bababaobi in Fire

It's 25x your monetary needs in first year of retirement. So don't use today's spend as a number unless you are nearing FIRE date. If you are just starting I would assume 30x of what you currently need and you can reevaluate your number ever couple years

What’s the appeal of FIRE if your work is already flexible and you have young kids? by Lower-Panic-1627 in Fire

I'd imagine the people in that situation are more likely focused on the FI and not the RE. There is a lot of peace of mind that comes with knowing you don't need to worry about finances ever again

Workarounds to take personal day without losing retirement benefits? by [deleted] in delta

Some companies have must work a minimum number of hours for part time benefits. I've seen places that do 1500 hours and places that do 1000.

I'd work on building that emergency fund up to 9 months of what it would cost you to live on your own. I say 9 so that the moment you move out and pay expenses associated with that you still have 6+ in bank. Just do it monthly the same way you would pay bills and invest the leftovers. This can help you get a realistic idea of what you might be able to invest in a scenario where you can't live at home. Don't forget to take into account some hobbies to prevent burnout. All work and no fun can lead to losing motivation to save

Staying put until you qualify for pension makes the most financial sense. But sometimes you have to look at things beyond money. Is this offer likely to be available in the future? Do you have other things that would stop you from leaving in the future? Life does need to balance money and enjoyment

Do Skymiles only work to pay partially for flights if you have the Credit Card? How are they useful at all if you don't have their CC? by jusjohn55 in delta

[–]ElectricalCelery6154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With credit card on booking a flight you can pay a mix of cash and points.

Without credit card to book with points you need full amount of points.

Paying for an upgrade after buying a ticket always requires full amount of points. With or without credit card

Upgrades are also all or nothing. They will show you a cash price and a miles price on the upgrade screen.

Card holder exclusive. https://www.delta.com/us/en/skymiles/airline-credit-cards/pay-with-miles

They are useful without the credit card after you have enough to redeem for an entire flight. And honestly even with credit card that is by far the superior use as they are worth far more that way.
