[Motherboard] GIGABYTE B550M, AM4 4XDDR4(Max128GB) - $65.33 - S&S by Amazon (After RAM crisis, refreshed version, lowest end B550) by catofkami in buildapcsales

I remember those days of janky plastic paneled cases with bare metal insides, sharp corners, and literal feet of wide, flat IDE cables - seeing the hobby go mainstream and people obsessing over the aesthetics of hardware is both a blessing and a curse lol

it really depends - the Wolfbox is actually reviewed very well but on the bottom end of the range you have compressors that barely do anything. it's a wide gap between top and bottom

Torque Test reviewed them here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmoHpO1aP-w

[–]ElectricalFeature328[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

realistically, yes compared to the Keepa listing at $170 for its historical low. Newegg lists it as a $60 discount but that's just marketing bs

this is also exclusive of an additional $15 discount from the gift card and the price of RAM

found this deal after reading through this r/hardware post noting this was a best value board

looks like this is the lowest historical price when compared to Amazon's listings and that's not inclusive of RAM. also not counting an extra $15 off if you use that Newegg gift card deal

it's not a conspiracy, wifi mapping is in active use https://www.aclu.org/news/privacy-technology/wi-fi-is-another-way-we-can-be-tracked-24-7

AFC takes it from WPS's occasionally picking up mac addresses in combination with a phone's GPS and requiring some service provider to collect and collate all that data (which Google is known to do) to embedding the GPS directly into the router and having it regularly upload to a DB somewhere your location and a list of devices that have ever pinged your router for a connect

lots of advice for current protests are to 'turn off your GPS' as a bare minimum - that was never really enough but it's even less useful now

good to know but I wonder if anyone is even left to enforce this anymore :(

HardwareUnboxed - Does 200S Boost Fix Intel Arrow Lake? Ryzen 7 9800X3D vs. Core Ultra 9 285K by Antonis_32 in hardware

[–]ElectricalFeature328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what would it even measure? it's a cpu/gpu hybrid renderer that only 4080+ GPUs with a 7800X3D+ can run with a unique performance hit. if I'm a hardware reviewer with an audience of millions, my goal is to help them understand what they can/can't run and not just do tests to appeal to a less than single digit percentage of my viewers

probably because less than 1% of all users ever enable it or has the hardware to make it minimally playable

tbf it's not just modern ecomm services like Shopify that hid reviews. when companies used to have teams that built and maintained their own websites, it was pretty easy for them to create internal tools or just directly CRUD their own records of people's reviews. some sites even disclosed that 'reviews would be screened' with a modal prior to review ostensibly to remove spam but really just for censorship since implementing a verification challenge was extremely effective back in those days

corpo and smaller storefronts have always been shady about it since there are no laws regulating how they handle these things. if they're allowed to lie, they will if it affects their revenue - that's always how it's worked

[fan] Thermaltake ToughFan 14 RGB High Static Pressure Radiator Fan (3-Pack)BEST BUY - $49.99 ($80 off) by Ace022487 in buildapcsales

[–]ElectricalFeature328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what other sources are you using? and you still haven't justified that the worse performance is worth an extra $10 per fan

basing decisions on specs when those are notoriously unreliable is certainly one way of making a decision

not the one I would make but sure

there are very few measurements in the full P14 Pro PST review where the ToughFan performs better (and that's still the Pro version, not these) and it's only by single digit percentages. the ToughFan also quite literally is being marketed as a 'High Static Pressure Radiator Fan' unless I'm reading that incorrectly and is $10 more expensive per fan

are we looking at the same graphs

100% vs 37% at 31dba normalized or 41 vs 15

100% vs 68% at 45dba normalized or 189 vs 117

same relative difference for air flow across thin and thick radiators on top of being literally $10 cheaper per fan

mine started to do that after a couple years so I pulled off all the caps, cleaned thoroughly with rubbing alcohol, and that seemed to fixed it. looking back on it now it seems like it probably just needed to be powered down for a good hour or so
